Any of you been to Royce Brook and familiar with the West course?

Next saturday, I'll be lucky enough to be invited to play the West course, just worried that it'll be too difficult based on a review from a friend...

I have a little over a week to prepare, so I'm looking for suggestions on what I should work on for this course specifically.

Avg, lower 90s so far this year, just don't want to look like a chump.

I've never played that course, but if you're worried about difficulty, I would work on irons and short game. Many of the more difficult courses I've played have involved shot making versus being able to drive a bit further. It's not always best to take out the next longest (yardage) club, sometimes you have to prepare for the NEXT shot. This is truly the one part of the game I struggle most with, I can offer the advice, but am completely unable to follow it myself.

Regardless, enjoy it; it's golf. Take it too seriously, and it's not fun anymore.

I've played it a few times. Good course. Which ever club gives you the most trouble, leave it in the trunk of your car. Like the poster above mention, hone in on your iron and putter play.

Nephew interned there a couple years ago. Was able to play both sides. We laugh I think I got in 35 rounds in that summer, 25 plus at Royce Brooke. I do not think one side is more difficult than the other. A couple holes with forced carries and long par 3's on the west side. I actually prefer the east vs. the west from a layout perspective. Nothing to be intimidated about. Unless of course you have not been truthful with yourself when scoring as some golfers are prone to do.

I played whichever is the public course. I hadn't played in a while and the course ate me up, spit me out, and then chewed me up again.

In my defense it was right after heavy rains and very windy. Nah, it was all me. I sucked.

I remember one hole with a very severely tilted green back to front. I hit my approach soooo close to pin high. It caught the slope and ended 20+ yards off the green. It just wasn't my day.

Have played Royce Brook approximately 400 times (used to be a member, but still play it frequently).

If you are shooting in the low 90s, you'll be fine. The rough and fescue is not up yet, so the course is playable. They have taken a lot of the sand traps out, though there are still a lot. They also aerated the courses two weeks ago, so its not in pristine condition.

My general feeling is that the greens do not break as much as you think they will, but that's jus may be me.

Before playing, be sure to go to THE deli in town.

Haven't played there in years but if you're in the low 90s you'll be OK. Play the Whites.

I plan on getting back to playing. Due to having my home lifted I won't be living at the beach much of this summer so I need a new diversion. I haven't played much at all for a number of years. Don't have much hope of playing anywhere near decent but will give it the ol college try.
