OT: worst concert you attended

In terms of full length concerts for me it was YES at the Dean Smith Center in Chapel Hill 1987) or Loverboy at Pleasure Island (Disney World- 1994ish). Like George Costanza's girlfriend said it wasn't like the risoto!

Here's my 2 actual (shows)-one each for those who "used" to chase Bruce (my fault?) or Bon Jovi (not my fault)...

Three Doors Down sandwiched between Gretchen Wilson and ZZ Top at an AC casino. Every time the lead guy of TDD spoke he kept calling the crowd "my friends". It got annoyng AF the second time he said it.

Since we had a thread on worst movie/plot, I figured I start one with this topic: Worst concert you ever attended.

Mine was the only one I ever left early because it was so mind-numbingly bad:

Spyro Gyra

Lou Christie (Two Faces have I/ Lightening Striking Again) @ Rutgers in circa 1966.

Cowboy Mouth at Jazz Fest. The band is very talented, but I paid to be entertained. They uninterrupted every song repeatedly to implore crowd participation. There's also posers like Buddy Guy who would be outstanding if they'd just shut up and play. Reverend Horton Heat decided to tell his life story during his last show at the Stone Pony. Sell the book separately, I'm there for the music.

Buddy Guy a poser? Is this the right word? Buddy is a guitar god.

Very surprised about Reverend Horton Heat--they like to tell stories and jokes between songs. Never left a show of theirs disappointed.

Ok bad word. Buddy has true feel for the blues and is one of the best. I just have no patience for the pauses.

As for the Rev, I was shocked, because I'd seen him a year earlier at another venue in Asbury and he delivered no nonsense psychobilly. At the Pony he jabbered on.

I saw them at the medowlands around the same year and was about to post how bad it was.
I think I was at that concert too, I had front row seats, but they barely engaged at all with their fans, played their songs to the T and split

Hell yeah. Even after it became Bello's - although I haven't been there for a few years.

The real "secret hiding spot" for old school Sayreville folks is Buddies.
I hang out at Buddies every so often, they got that great shuffleboard.

Was Simko’s ever one of your haunts?
Was there last Friday night for a semi class reunion, the place had one IPA on draft and it was crappy Goose Island. Dennis the owner hasn't got a clue. I've cpme quote the beer snob

A little license on the word show. My 2 worst were from chasing (hope a given artist shows up) one each of Bruce and Bon Jovi. In terms of Bruce I had been at the Count Basie Theatre and I believe on the way out staff was pushing a benefit show for world hunger year or similar. Problem was the staff was spreading rumors Bruce would be playing. Obviously lots decided to purchase tickets due to the rumors.

First, the show was split into 2 shows and now my then afternoon show didn't have "headliner" Posh Spice! Went running to red bank Easter "eve" afternoon only to arrive in the midst of a pretty bad local talent show.

First I witnessed the Bruce crowd laughing at a morbidly obese 10 year old in a tutu attempting ballet. Probably the worst thing I ever saw. The crowd was getting miffed and yelling out "Bruuuceee".

Things got worse and from what I remember nastier. 1-2 performers later there was a Spanish Fabio-like guitar virtuoso (if anyone remembers the informercial with the Latino guitar guy whos TV offer taught guitar/the chords it was somewhat like him if not that exact guy).

Anyways the crowd was continuing the "Bruuceing" and the guy became so rattled he (from a sitting down position) dropped the guitar flat to the ground. The nasty Bruce crowd laughed loudly and the "Bruucing" again.

I think I got out of there soon after (probably with others). After that show I rarely if ever again attended a show based on rumors Bruce was showing-even with the almost guaranteed appearances at the annual "Light of Day yearly Parkinsons benefit.

One exception to the above was the time I got a call from my buddy Piscataway Mike about "strong rumors" Jon Bon Jovi (Bonjiovi) was gonna show up at the Wonder Bar?/else? in Asbury Park with one of his songwriters Billy Falcon.

After a few minutes of thinking I figured Mike was wrong (if by chance he was right I figured so few people would be there I could "Jovi watch" and even meet the guy). So therefore, I defaulted, like anyone does, and decided to support a friend (Mike and brother Tom who wasn't going, for many years have let me accompany them lots of places including a great trip to Boston/Mansfield (where they flexed for Buffett shows and incredible whale watching for my Green Monster tickets at Fenway). Also if Mike goes to a show he pretty much has a handle on the quality of the show. The brothers could write books on travel and tailgating.

Anyways this might have been the one time Mike really got "suckered" (think of "the worse" in a great "marriage"). We got to the bar and nobody was there. I think there were 6ish tables of people-and five were friends and family of Falcon (who by the way brought his talented daughter Rose who Mike says has now made a name for herself in Nashville).

Anyways the whole time I had the feeling that the otther 5 tables of people were watching Mike and I and thinking "these are the two losers who showed up on those rumors John (Bonjovi) would show up! I tried my dearest to look like music insider-or friend of the family-or "just happened" to have wandered in off the boardwalk.

The whole show (ok if you like singer songwriting and the father-daughter think was sweet) was mellow but I had been expecting the opposite as the guy writes for Bon Jovi. Actually I think it was after THIS show I haven't "chased" Bruce-or else-since.

Wait....Bongiovi actually has people who write those dumbass tunes for him ?

Oasis at the Stone Pony in Ausbury Park, second song in someone through a beer on Noel, if you know Noel well he wanted to fight the guy and the band said FU and walked off.

Psycho, what year was the Oasis show? I saw Oasis on their last? tour at the Garden around 2009 with Piscataway Mike. I know another big fan who was at the show. Great band but all of us were very disappointed with the lack of interaction between the Gallagher brother let alone fans.

Also, from what I read in the "NY Post" after the show Noel hooked up and impregnated a "Rolling Stone" reported whose supposed dream was to hook up and have a kid with a rock and roll star...

Sometimes even with a good band you get a bad venue or show. I saw Southside Johnny and the Jukes at the first? and probably "last" "Beerfest" at the Somerset Exposition Center in Somerest with Piscataway Mike around 2010. Because of my drinking abilities I was a last minute substitution for Mike's brother. My roles was designated driver.

Beerfest was essentially a dud-poorly attended and a ripoff because for $20 one got to sample only shot glass sized swigs of craft bee-and one didn't even receive a shot glass let along mug. There were glasses and mugs for sale but Piscataway Mike, from what I remember, was the only one to purchase even a small mug (If I'm right Mike had hit the Kentucky Derby or else that day or day before for $1,600.

Anyways the concert was sparsely attended and had no momentum. Also I believe Bobby Bandiera had already left the band to join Bon Jovi and I guess LaBamba and crew are now with Conan O Brien (another weird concert I saw with Mike, brother and 80+ year old Mom at the Borgata).

Anyways the low point ('highlight")came when Southside sang "It's been A Long Long Time". Anyways Southside gets to the line "raise your glass" (to the comrades we've lost) and of course nobody has bottled or mugs because there were only shot glasses for the sampling. Only Mike raises the small mug he purchased and Southside didn't see him. Southside, in half a mocking perhaps half disgusted tone said "you guys are pathetic"!! I think he meant the show itself!

Jethro Tull
LOL. I saw Tull in 1990 or 1991....they were old and wearing shorts and it was not a good look. I'm not really a fan, but they weren't terrible.
Saw Tull on Ian’s 50th bday concert tour never again will I want to go to see them. Worst concert until I was dragged to see Travis Tritt at the Trenton war memorial that was painful.

I saw Meatloaf at the Stone Pony in 1988-90 time frame when he still had long stringy hair. Fantastic show. I have heard his shows are not so good any more.

I saw the original Bat Out of Hell tour at the Arts Center. It was one of the best shows I've ever seen. Nearly incomparable.

Worst show is a really hard thing to pin down, because so many of them have been really bad. The Cars sucked. Boston was terrible, live. I once saw Frankie and the Knockouts on a double bill with The Marshall Tucker Band. I fell asleep. Springsteen at the Spectrum the night after John Lennon was shot was the best concert I've ever seen but Springsteen's first Giants Stadium show on the Rising tour may have been the worst.
I was at that concert we were all dancing in the aisles when he did twist and shout. It was a great show after the worst day I can remember in the music world.

It was so bad I got the name wrong my wife said it was actually Randy Travis all I know was it sucked bad. I am no country fan but I have seen my share for her most are decent shows that guy was almost half dead on stage.

I can’t remember the year, but it was their first US tour and they were not that popular yet, only WHTG 106.3 was playing them at the time. Had to be like 1991

Crosby, Stills, and Nash at The Gorge. Shell of their former selves. Voices shot and couldn't harmonize. Only concert I've ever walked out of.

Dave, you must have just got back from Kuai. How was your beach cabin in Hanalei? Give me a call.

The last time I saw Gaslight Anthem in Philadelphia really spelled the end for them. They were one of my favorite bands of my 20s. They played a Mish mosh setlist because their drummer had a family emergency. A drummer from another band played generic beats a long to their songs and it was unbearable at points. Brian fallon promised they would be back and I think that ended up being their last local show. It was rhr night before our first B1G game vs. Penn State

Forgot about concert with Butterfield Blues Band and Lovin Spoonful at Seton Hall. Butterfield was on first and fine, then someone called in a bomb threat and the place got cleared out, rest of concert canceled. There were refunding tickets BUT you had to go up in person with your stubs, no way I could do that

Springsteen - Devils and Dust tour.

I'm a big fan overall but that show was not good.
