Pinstripe Bowl half empty

Awful bowl game and pictures show upper deck as closed. Its pretty bad on a bleak sunless day in a soul less venue. Absolutely nothing redeeming about this bowl.

The upper deck IS NOT closed. You can clearly see fans sitting in the lower sections of the upper tier. That being said good to see your hate finally made the thread G lol!

Wrong, no seats were for sale up there. Maybe the Usher's kids and friends snuck up there.
At least not this morning.

Yes, but their games have been exciting recently.

Yes lots of hard fought and close games

Definitely NOT "wrong:" The upper tier consists of the 300 and 400-level seats. You can CLEARLY see plenty sitting in the 300's in this picture:

You are confused.
The Upper Deck is above that view and was closed.
What you see is the Terrace level- 300 Level sections ( which is below the Grandstand level = Upper Deck).

FWIW - The Grandstand level is huge

I'm not "confused." I clearly said the 300-level which is PART OF the upper deck that consists of both the 300 and 400-levels. You access BOTH sets of seats from the same concourse, hence, they're a part of the same deck.

For crying out loud ....everybody knows the 400 level in Yankee Stadium is the Upper Deck.

Abro, I need a drink. What ya got ?????

You want to see "empty"? Turn on The Foster Farm's Bowl. There can not be more than 5,000 fans in the stands for a B1G/PAC match. I've said I don't understand why so many on these boards are enthralled with the prospects of going to Santa Clara to spend a fortune and sit in an empty stadium.

Yankee Stadium sold out

Yankees president Randy Levine predicted the game would be a “sellout” in the 37,000-seat range because of renovations at Yankee Stadium. The announced crowd was 37,918.

Bartholomae said Pitt sold out two allotments of bowl tickets for “the second straight year.” Later, a Pitt spokesperson estimated the school sold 8,000 tickets.

Jackson named MVP

Northwestern running back Justin Jackson did not take home the Pinstripe Bowl rushing record. The game's MVP award will have to do.

“Big city, big stage,” Jackson said after rushing for 224 yards and three touchdowns. “We've been saying that all week. Just walking into Yankee Stadium (Tuesday), it hit a lot of us.

“It's an iconic venue. It's really just the aura about it. Great people have gone through here. A lot of people (said), ‘Derek Jeter has (urinated) in this urinal.' Stuff like that.”

Like the Bar ..I'll be right over.
Of course Levine is going to say the right things.. he does it every year after his Bowl game.
He better hope that Met Life never hosts a Bowl game. You never know.

Even with 68,000 seats this Stadium looks empty.
Don't get it. Great NFL Stadium, 1st class city, decent weather, etc.
We know Indiana football does not travel well, I thought Utah could...maybe not ?

I was at the Pinstripe Bowl today. First two levels were filled. The upper dock had a limited amount of fans. Appeared to be equally split between NW and Pitt folks. Both sides loud. A fun game and the people who attended enjoyed themselves.

I understand why some folks don't like the venue or the bowl, but there were plenty of people there today and based upon the behavior of the crowd folks enjoyed themselves.

Disappointed in the season? Expensive area to go to, 2 days after Christmas, for a game against a 6-6 team? They usually have traveled okay IIRC.

I will sign up for a Pinstripe Bowl for RU next year in a heartbeat!!
----
glad you like to watch a game that has nothing but bad views.....

here's the thing.... if and when RU gets to be a .500 or so team, you can expect to have your wish three times out of six, or, every other year...... the big ten will steer us into that bowl each and every time they can....

we can qualify for a bowl, get sent there, not qualify the next, and the following year we get sent there again....

hope you are happy sitting in that dumpy stadium while other big 10 teams are in real bowls in real football stadiums

the absolute worst place for us to be sent

The upper deck actually has the best sidelines, though it's cold up there Brrrr!

I don't get the hatred for this game. I imagine it is a pretty big deal for visiting teams and their fans to get to come to NYC during the holidays and catch a football game. The games have been competitive and seem to have better attendance wise than its peer bowls.

The venue isn't great for football, we all know that. Perhaps that is part of the allure to the game.

It is cold, it is outdoors, it is football on a baseball field, none of this makes sense.
Get drunk and enjoy football in the greatest City in the world. Sounds like a good time to me!

It's a good bowl game. People who don't like it can't stay home. All I know is I'm going, given the opportunity, and I'm going to have fun.

It isn't. It is a hassle for everyone, particularly the visiting teams. It is cold and expensive to come to the Bronx just a few days after Christmas. It isn't just Rutgers fans, everyone would like a warm location in a real football stadium.

so what you are saying is that there are reasons that this bowl sucks but go and make the best of it.....

you have to liquor yourself up to make it decent

I can do that once in a great while....but I warn you that once we get decent we will be sent there 4 times in 10 years on average..... if you are happy with that, so be it

if this game was in the new Giants stadium, I would much more supportive..... unfortunately, since this is a Yankee inspired bowl, it was not to be

Any game other than baseball in Yankee Stadium is one game too many. I had great seats for baseball at RU/ND game that were at least 50 yds from the field. They were the worst seats you could possibly have. I would go 3rd base line loge or higher

If Rutgers fans are smart it will look even worse next year when we play Maryland.

A statement MUST be made!
What statement are you hoping to make?

The Pinstripe Bowl is profitable and isn't going anywhere, so the only message sent when RU fans didn't show up would be a negative against RU being picked for other bowls.

Exactly right.

We've made a statement already. We've voiced our concerns to the athletic department regarding future games there, and they've heard. If we don't show up, it will be negative to us.

I think it will be interesting to compare the attendance of peer bowls. I think it is easy for locals of the NY Metro area to think its not a big deal to have a bowl game in NYC. However, I don't think that will be the case for fans in other parts of the country. Also, the game has done well with programs that have large alumni bases located in the northeast.

What is so appealing about a place like Santa Clara? It is almost 2 hours of traffic from any sort of destination. The venue might be great, but that is it.

IMO, the peer bowls to the Pinstripe Bowl are the following:

Holiday Bowl - Minnesota vs Washington St - San Diego CA - 48,704
Russell Athletic Bowl - WVU vs Miami(FL) - Orlando FL - 48,625
Pinstripe Bowl - Northwestern vs Pitt - Bronx NY - 37,918
Cactus Bowl - Boise St vs Baylor - Phoenix AZ - 33,328
Independence Bowl - Vanderbilt vs NC State - Shreveport LA - 28,995
Foster Farms Bowl - Indiana vs Utah - Santa Clara CA - 27,608
Quick Land Bowl - Boston College vs Maryland - Detroit MI - 19,117

The Foster Farms Bowl had better attendance when they played on a baseball field in San Fran than they do in gorgeous football stadium in Santa Clara.

Pinstripe does rather well compared to its peers.

I dont think the first two are their piers....Holiday and Russel Athletic are a higher level than Pinstripe but yes those attendance numbers do show that among the pier bowls below they do well....

I believe he's talking about our regular season "home" game there against Maryland and not about a possible Pinstripe Bowl berth.

If the West Side stadium happened this bowl (since it would actually be in "The City") would be huge. Like Donald Trump HUUUUGGGE. And it would be bigly too. LOL

And @bac2therac is right your peer analysis is a little off.

When most folks -- esp. non-locals -- think "NYC" they think midtown Manhattan. The bowl game is nowhere near midtown, especially when you factor in commute logistics.

It's similar to telling a someone Cook to Busch for back-to-back periods is do-able. I mean it is, but it's really misleading...

Having worked in all five and lived in three all I can say it's true.

Most would agree that when you're talking about "The City" it does cover the area I mentioned. Even by those in the who live in the outer boroughs.

Well those people would be idiots. The best steak is in Brooklyn. The best pizza is in Coney Island. The best Chinese food is in Queens. And the best baseball is in the Bronx.

I'll give you Staten Island.
