Rutgers At Penn / NCAA First Round / Nov 17th / Match Thread

RU is playing pretty well in the 2nd half with a few chances.

Ugh … 3-0 Penn … good season guys. Build on it for next year. Ironically both soccer squads lost to the Ivy League champs in the first round.

3-0 Penn. Like a different sport on this turf. Might as well be playing on a concrete schoolyard .. Big Ten champions should never have been shafted like this in some rec league field on middle school broadcast against another conference champion .. terrible

Penn looks like a very good team … they only have 2 losses on the year … hats off to them for shutting out RU.

Yeah, what a crap field for a tourney game. Oh well.

That sucks.

Great run. Back to back BIG Champs has a nice ring to it. Goal for next year.

Will be interesting to see the team grow.

The Rutgers Athletics Dept. needs to hire a shaman. Too many of our teams’ postseason appearances result in lackluster performances.

At least this was better than the last ncaa game vs Akron. That game was demoralizing.
Still the guys seemed very much off their game. They hadn't played this sloppy all season.

Agree they certainly looked sloppy & off their game. Had a very good year though.

Team will and should get a nice boost recruiting in both the clubs and the transfer portal after winning a B1G ring. Keep climbing the ladder and start strengthening the OOC schedule, much like men's lax did once they started becoming a legit winning team.

Only got outclassed twice this year, both out of conference (other one was a 6-1 loss early in the year).

Last year was pretty good with 2 final fours and an elite 8, but it does seem like we lose a lot early in the NCAAs.

Losing to PENN … I get it. Losing by 3? Pretty crappy.

Still not as bad as the first round loss to SMU with Lalas and Andracki the year after losing in the Soccer finals to UCLA. Still remember the 15 annoying SMU fans and the beating drum.

Still would trade a B1G title over a first round win, and RU punched through the men’s barrier. Hopefully it removes pressure from other men’s teams (ex. Lacrosse, Baseball) and Soccer gets momentum next year.

Only Indiana is left alive. Their charitable seed (as much as I respect the program) is the gift that keeps on giving. Their next opponent is also unseeded (Marshall, who upset #4 seed Virginia)...

That was a 2nd round NCAA game in 1991. RU beat ODU in the 1st round the week before losing to SMU. Was a tough loss to the Mustangs nonetheless.

The 1993 loss in the NCAA 1st round to Hartwick stung quite a bit for me as that team could have and probably should have made a deeper run.

As an aside, I saw this a couple times in the background during the TV coverage at Yurcak Field but one of the banners along the far sideline that lists the men's college cup/final 4 appearances incorrectly lists 1991. They should fix that to 1990 (also the NCAA finalist year, which is listed separately above on that banner in larger letters), unless they don't like to duplicate seasonal listings like at the RAC with men's and women's hoops tournament appearances/advancements, then they need to just remove the 1991.

Last time IU faced MU in the NCAA tourney was just 18 months ago in the COVID-delayed Spring 2021 season, in the title game. MU won the natty 1-0. IU will be seeking some measure of revenge from not winning their 9th title that season.
