Eating out is obviously a calculated risk, but, again, other countries are doing it.
Schools in other countries are open too. I know someone who runs a few private pre-k schools in Taiwan. They're working just fine. 4 year old kids are able to wear masks all day aside from meal times. Go figure, we are worse than a bunch of 4 year olds.
Point is, the use of masks and a period of lockdown beat back the number of cases enough in those countries that they can operate in a greater capacity than we can. They can sustain this low level this thru continued use of masks and logical testing, containment, and tracing. All of that was done with a unified national program. Here, if you don't like the rules in NJ, you can drive a few hours and go to a state that's more lax. This defeats the whole purpose of the containment strategy.
