COVID-19 Pandemic: Transmissions, Deaths, Treatments, Vaccines, Interventions and More...

Sure that was smart but wearing masks while walking campus is being crazy and paranoid.

I thank God you're only responsible for yourself and no other humans.

It's all about the control. At church today a teacher told the story that she has been in contact with some of her students and one parent said her kids haven't been outside since April. WTF??? When asked why the parent replied "don't you know there is a deadly virus out there and I will be doing remote with my kids.

drove home from beach down college ave in New Brunswick and every kid i saw (about a dozen of them in seperate groups of 2) walking had a mask on...what the f...why...outdoors in area that has been basically barren for 4 months, empty streets...MASKS...WHY???

on another note, at the beaches, all races of people, all ages, and all likely not from red states all within close proximity in the water. BS narratives from some and msm going to persist though, its unfortunate
And why does this bother you so much?

because his post was pretty stupid
U2 are quite the pair. Upset about people wearing masks.

That is so much worse than people complaining about people NOT wearing masks.

According to the poll on this board.. roughly 50% have not been tested and almost 40% have no plans to get tested. If those people walking the street for the moment that you saw them while driving by.. if they wear masks because they haven't been tested and don't want to take a chance they are asymptomatic carriers.. really.. who are you to tell them not to? who are you to mock them?

next time just stay on 18 and avoid getting triggered on College Ave.

I've discussed many significant factors, as have other posters, that made the US the perfect storm for this global pandemic including country size, population demographics and dispersion, international travel volumes (esp. in Dec-Jan), government structure, pandemic history and more. Let's just look at the climate variations across this country vs any other comparable democracy that could explain the rolling spread of this pandemic and a reason the sunbelt is experiencing the recent surge. What other western democratic country has this diverse climate characteristic alone?

Oy vey, you're way off again, I never said say that climate itself drives the chicomvuirus. In fact in a recent reply directly to you I specifically noted the connection that climate, be it the scorching summer in the sunbelt or cold in the N/E in winter months, drives human behavior more indoors or outdoors. It's human behavior as in close contact, for example the increased younger crowd gatherings being reported , that determines the transmission. I'll give you a mulligan.

Btw, the NOLA outbreak has been linked to mardi gras and it being largely seeded by NY and Cali visitors in late Feb--you probably noted this somewhere in the pinned threads anyway.

Sorry, no. What you wrote above is what I responded to and it's wrong. Climate is not having any direct impacts on the virus, as far as anyone can tell. If you want to talk about extreme heat or cold driving people indoors, then state that or at least refer to it in the post. People being indoors in the winter is certainly a factor in influenza being worse in the winter, so driving people inside from the heat could be too, if this were the flu, but the big difference now is these aren't people who are together every day without masks indoors in schools and work and then at home, like we have with the flu (it's mostly just people at home now), which is likely why flu rates are way down in the southern hemisphere. Agree on NOLA being somewhat a result of being seeded from elsewhere, but more importantly being simply a large, close contact gathering (unlike any other, if you've been there), both indoors and outdoors.

You can't stop stupidity - anyone who won't go outside, at least in areas with very few people, because there's a deadly virus, just hasn't paid any attention.

Great post. Also, bac said he saw a bunch of groups in pairs wearing masks, so unless he knows that those pairs have been with each other the whole time and are "safe" why wouldn't they wear masks? We've seen quite a few friends during this and since we're not 100% sure people not in our house are uninfected (and they can't trust us 100% either), we all take the precaution of wearing masks (or being well more than 6 feet away outdoors).

I have been tested twice now... and as soon as I go out in public to buy stuff.. touch stuff.. I assume from that point on I might be exposed. When I don't have symptoms I feel fairly confident.. but you simply cannot be 100% sure.

Overall, I might agree with them.. that the risk is low. And in the closed thread I did not show much concern for college-aged football players (without extra risk factors) risks. But complaining about people wearing masks? You might as well complain about people getting tested when they don't have it.

Methinks the real complaint is about the type of people who might be wearing masks outdoors.. not the act of doing so. And that is just a bridge too far.

I go to gas stations almost daily in Hillsborough for personal car or my work vehicles and equipment. The only gas station attendants that wear masks is the Quick Check. Very rarely do the other stations wear masks. I know of some that don't at all.

I actually usually go to the quick chek on 206 , they all wear masks.

A gas station in belmar area, the guy wore a mask too

Why get tested just to get tested? Weird logic. Please explain.

huh? the type of people, they were all young and mostly if not all white

maybe i am just sort of puzzled because i just came from the beach where no mask wearing on beach and boardwalk and peeps all in close proximity to each other on the beach and in the water...all kinds of people and all ages and really you wouldnt know that it was 2019 or 2020

I wouldn't put much stock in your so-called hypothesis about the chicomvirus surge in the U.S. sunbelt from "a higher % of R's not following mask/social distancing guidelines". The "polls" today you and others have referenced are highly suspect since a recent Cato research piece basically confirmed most anecdotal evidence of R's not participating and under represented in public polls. I doubt public polling info today is even close to historical margins of error in accuracy.

The Miami mayor recently summed up his on-the-ground take on the sunbelt surges as more people being indoors in the hot summer months (A/C air) while N/E population being more outside in same, which is mostly the opposite case during winter/early spring months. And of course the young adults being the invincible young adults they think they are--and the 45+ all once thought they were (edit: I still know I am, no worries...).

A new Cato national survey finds that self‐censorship is on the rise in the United States. Nearly two-thirds—62%—of Americans say the political climate these days prevents them from saying things they believe because others might find them offensive. The share of Americans who self‐censor has risen several points since 2017 when 58% of Americans agreed with this statement.

These fears cross partisan lines. Majorities of Democrats (52%), independents (59%) and Republicans (77%) all agree they have political opinions they are afraid to share.

Sorry, but yeh you're wrong again. Above is my post directly replying to your "hypothesis" that R's weren't wearing masks in the south causing the spikes--note the part about the indoors A/C in the hot sunbelt states vs. N/E indoors in colder weather. Funny how you cherry-picked a post to another poster and took it out of context, ignoring the issue specifics in a reply directly to you.

And this indoor A/C problem is hardly new info, articles discussing it have been around for months.

Did you really have to share that story? You just said a lot more about YOU than you did that family.
Yeah, I said what sane people are thinking. Crazy people need to either chill out or stay locked in their homes. We followed all the rules and my kids still had to see this psycho act like a lunatic.

You were complaining that Fauci and Cuomo weren’t wearing masks, now you’re complaining about people on the street wearing masks.

Which one is it?

Why get tested just to get tested? Weird logic. Please explain.
Well. the first time was because i had a strange cough.. no other symptoms. The second time was more than a month later... and I waited all day to make the appointment to give anyone with symptoms a chance to register first. Since there was a slot available.. I took it.

It is better to know. And if I had it, I could take special precautions against giving it to others and get my contact list tested. Also.. if I had it.. then I would eventually go get the antibodies test then see about blood/plasma donation programs where they want antibodies people.

you totally miss the point dont you. If Fauci and Cuomo are lecturing people wearing masks and they arent wearing ones themselves it proves they are frauds or under some special rules. People wearing masks on empty streets outdoors is unnecessary

Masks are important to wear in the right situations. Hypocrisy abounds though with all the mask requirements, no one needs to look further than selective enforcement and why all our businesses arent open..ie gyms if masks are the end all be all which some are portraying.

No, not about you, just about you complaining that 50% of people on the board haven't been tested. Why get tested unless there is a legit reason to?

Mexico is in the midst of an outbreak worse than ours, as measured by deaths per capita, which are about twice as high as ours are now (their case rate is artificially low, since they're not testing nearly as much as we are) and they have 16% of homes with air-conditioning vs. >90% in states like FL/TX/CA/AZ, so no, don't think it's air-conditioning (stats are easy to Google on that). Also, as I've shown before, CA's case/death rates are well below those of FL/TX/AZ, per capita - explain that one with your AC theory. The most likely reason is they have a D governor, who didn't reopen his state nearly as recklessly as the R gov's in the other states and CA has much stronger masking requirements (and less R's proportionally).

LOL, try reading the articles linked. Here's an excerpt: Manish Butte, PhD, an associate professor in the department of microbiology, immunology, and molecular genetics at the University of California, Los Angeles, tells Health that within a public setting, like a restaurant, workplace, or gym, air conditioning might be potentially risky.

I could go on to show how misleading your 16% home A/C stat is in your Mexico example, but why waste time. In your highly partisan world stats are to be twisted so that D is good, R is bad, and Trump is the biblical beast. Have a good night brah, try to stop posting and get to bed before 2-3am.

I’m sorry, but you’re not fooling anyone.
Well , there are different rules for people in power positions and there always will be. Look you have a sports board and the ONLY person of power is Richie the owner... For several months now we see 5/6 people who because of a claimed medical knowledge or perceived expertise dictate the conversations. That’s all well and good but when a difference of opinion arises people begin to challenge who is right and who is wrong . In the end someone always brings in politics. It’s a thread created in order to talk about the virus and specifically about new therapeutics, vaccines, spread , masks or no masks , data and it usually deteriorates into a diatribe about death, future deaths and why it’s this groups fault and not ours.It will never change ... it is too deeply Imbedded in personal philosophical differences of choice. Maybe after we beat this virus down we can get back to being a sports board that argues about what bowl game or what NCAA bracket we will be in . God I sure as shit hope so.

OR.. you need to chill when seeing these crazy people or stay locked in your home.
I was quite chill. Trying to keep 6 kids from laughing at the crazy people. And then me trying not to laugh when an eleven year old announces “sure wasn’t concerned about social distancing when that xl sundae came to the window”

I was not complaining. I was commenting on the poll results in relation as to why people on the street.. with CoVid or thoughts that they might be asymptomatic carriers might wear masks.

The 50% not getting tested may not know whether they had it or not. We saw the story of one person who tested positive for antibodies but the only illness he remembers goes back to September.. so its unlikely that was CoVid. So either his test was false positive or he caught CoVid and never realized it.

To be clear.. I am not complaining about 50% of people not getting tested. It is entirely up to them.

yeah dozen people all with corona walking down College Ave in groups of 2...sounds plausible
I might agree with you if you said it was 12 people all walking 6 feet away from anyone else. But you said groups of 2 which means that it was likely 2 friends walking together. Assuming those two friends weren’t podded/roommates, it is exactly the right thing for them to be wearing masks.

I have yet to see anyone explain what "they" are accomplishing with this "control."

Take a crack at it.
Oh.. I get that part.. And I do believe that many of the decisions about this pandemic are about the 2020 election... but that is not to be discussed here. and still I think its wrong to mock people wearing masks outside.

Is it.. if people refused to wear masks then "they" would lose control? Even if true that's no reason to root for people to not wear masks. You can think it has zero effect.. offers zero protection.. but that's not up to you to make that decision for everyone. It is a simple thing to ask for and a simple thing to do.

The govt that mandates should provide masks though. That should be part of their calculation if they are going to demand it.

maybe they are overplaying the risk to encourage people to go for the vaccine when it comes. when the polio vaccine came out it did not take much to get people to get their kids inoculated... polio was THAT scary.. IF "they" are scaring people.. maybe that's part of it.
