Stringer said she believed the reason why her team was sent three hours north to Connecticut was because the NCAA committee was "concerned about making sure that the ... fans have a chance to get down the road.''

"I guess that becomes economics,'' she said. "But when the game was right there in (Trenton), do you remember where we were sent?''

She was apparently referring to 2009, when Trenton hosted the regional finals and Rutgers traveled 1,400 miles west to the Oklahoma City Regional.

Stringer blasts Tournament selection committee

When you lose down the stretch and are in the 8/9 likely seed range ,bad things likely will happen which means playing the number one seed in the second round.Yes, playing UConn on their home court is tap city for almost any opponent and that surely applies to a injured Rutgers squad.The bottom line is that Rutgers has too many seasons with 10 plus losses which isn't going to impress the NCAA seeding committee when it comes to location and opponents.

What you said was partly true, however as the 23rd best team in the nation we should have been seeded 5th, 6th worst case scenario, but I guess that neither here nor there, right?

Even though we may have been ranked around 23, our RPI was in the low 40s. That translates to our seed.

Hopefully this is a quote from several days ago. We need to stop fussing, turn the page, and get ready to make a deep run. We ran the table last year! Let's do it again.

Good luck. Making the Sweet 16 would make national headlines.

Yeah, that's why it's time to stop complaining about past and present slights. Of course last year, we didn't get in at all and that was controversial. The previous 2 times, we were sent too far away. Maybe the committee said, ok, you want close? Here you go! I just hope the players are focused on the game at hand.

In totality yes cvs is right but she has no leg to stand on this year....dont lose to teams lije Michigan St and Northwestern 2x and you wont be in that position plus 0-6 or so vs top 20....ru got the seed they deserved

Indeed we can hope the players are focused on the game. But when their coach points the finger, whines, complains and blames she does her team a grave disservice.She is teaching them that their fate is due to external factors and not due to their hard work and perseverance. With such a poor teacher, no wonder they consistently underachieve.

Stringer makes a fair point that her team has been given a poor NCAA Tournament draw for more than a decade since becoming one of the top women's programs in the east:

• Despite being a fourth seed in 2003, Rutgers was sent to Athens, Ga., to play on the home court of Georgia in the second round;

• In 2004, Rutgers was the seventh seed but flew to Chattanooga, Tenn., to face 10th-seeded Chattanooga in the opening round;

• In 2005, Rutgers was the third seed but was sent to Storrs, Conn., to face 14th-seeded Hartford;

• In 2007, Rutgers was seeded fourth and sent to East Lansing, Mich., to meet Michigan State on its home floor;

• In 2008, Rutgers was seeded second but dispatched to Des Moines, Iowa, to square off with Iowa State on its home court;

• In 2011, Rutgers was the seventh seed and sent to Shreveport, La., to face Louisiana Tech;

• In 2012, Rutgers was the sixth seed and sent to Spokane, Wash., to face 11th-seeded Gonzaga on its home court.

Bottom line? The Scarlet Knights went to the NCAA Tournament every season from 2003-12. In seven of those years, they were the higher-seeded team forced to play an opponent in their home state.

Of course, that's the only year that RU hosted 1st and 2nd round games, and finally got the benefit of the pre-assigned sites, as a 7 seed that beat the 2 seed.

I won't quibble with your analysis.

There is a time for quiet diplomacy by CVS and JH, in the off-season to address any real issues. When you are getting your team ready to play, you don't teach them they are victims. CVS should know better and the fact that she is a repeat offender says much about her ability to learn from her mistakes.

Totally disagree.
Discussion of a new arena/ practice court is in the news NOW.
March madness is happening NOW.

In a few weeks, NO ONE will be talking/thinking about college basketball.
And no one is going to be interviewing Stringer in 3 weeks.
She had the podium and attention of reporters.
Strike while the iron is hot. NOW!

Oh, come on. For one thing "the whole world is against us" and "we've come from nothing" are time-honored coaching techniques to get a team motivated.

I have many books on my shelves by great coaches such as John Wooden. Wooden, for one, had a zero tolerance for the blame game.

Why are you so critical of CVS?
Did she offend you in someway?

Seriously, she is teaching her players "they are victims"?
Exaggerate much?
She is not talking to her players - she is talking to the media, politicians, and RU admin to help the men's and women's basketball programs.

Wooden probably is greatest College MBB HC of all time, but how much tolerance did he have for Sam Gilbert's interaction with his team. Was that in his book ?
Wooden was a great coach, but back in the Day, Gilbert was the Nevin Shapiro of his time and connected to the Wizard of Westwood's UCLA team towards the end of Wooden's career.
(Criticism of Wooden with regard to his stewardship of the UCLA basketball
program has most often focused on his failure to investigate or curtail his
players' involvement with Sam Gilbert a UCLA booster who was a prominent figure
in the players' circle in the late 1960s and throughout the 1970sA 1981
investigation by the Los Angeles Times found that Gilbert had
regularly helped athletes get discounts on items such as automobiles, stereos
and airline tickets for UCLA players, and in so doing, apparently committed
numerous violations of NCAA regulations The investigation did not uncover
evidence that Wooden had explicit personal awareness of Gilbert's activities.
However, Gilbert's overall influence in the lives of the players was no
secret.This led the Times reporters to conclude that if Wooden was not
aware of the specifics of Gilbert's favors for players, it was only because
Wooden made no effort to discover those details.)

Vivian is heading towards the end of her career and probably feels the need to speak out to make sure everyone knows what's needed to keep RU WBB a sucessful program and letting the public know : to be and remain successful it takes more than the Coach, it takes commitment from the school as well.
She said what's needed to be said.

She is correct but we contributed to it this year by losing down the stretch. Probably not the best year to complain based on our finish.

CVS went on her rant in response to a stupid politician trying to tell RU who they should schedule & in response CVS told the politician that they would be better served to do their jobs for the State University & let the Coaches do the scheduling!

Seems to many that Coach Stringer needs to accept her lame duck status, and try to go out with class.

As.the woman's version of Coach Boheim, she seems to think she has more import with the press/people in woman's game that matter.

RU opened as 3 1/2 point favorites vs Seton Hall, and the game might go off as pick-em, right now it has moved to -1.

As she all know, she has had trouble retaining staff, not just players.

Hope none of this was a distraction for her this week, and they press the Hall out of the game early and often!

Boeheim has been sanctioned twice by the NCAA, once in 1993 & again this year, CVS is nothing like the cheater win all any cost Boeheim!

She certainly is not the women's version of Boeheim. There has never been any hint of scandal or impropriety with her program.

What a dumb, baffling statement.

Lame duck?
What the heck does that mean?
And why shouldn't she try to speak up to help get much needed facility improvements for BOTH basketball programs?
If she won't speak up, who should? A Math professor? Ball boy? You?

Women's version of Boheim?
Clueless, ignorant statement. Not even worthy of a response.

No lame duck status.
She just signed a 4 year contract, even if the last two are non guaranteed years..
Don't bet if Vivian Stringer wants to stay all four , she won't.
Retaining staff is a big problem, especially when they move up to a HC position.
Stringer doesn't have that problem, but you seem not to understand why assistants offered HCing jobs at other schools
take it.
Don't put stock in thinking the line movement is an indication which is the better team.
The line is set by so called experts showing which team they think will win and by how much.
Then moves according to who the most wagers are put on.
Many bets are based on a teams record, without the bettor knowing much about the team or who it is playing and the players
strengths and weaknesses.
Sort of like a "student"/athlete's diploma from North Carolina, the sheepskin looks good until you look at he credits given for taking bogus courses to earn that degree. But the sheepskin alone looks good until you check out the courses .
Jim Boeheim would have made a great Tar Heel coach.
wink.r191677.gif

Think your last sentence is opposite of what you mean, but that's just an opinion.

Edit: if lame duck was true, even more reason to applaud CVS, because she proved she cares about Rutgers and wants her replacement have the advantages she was forced to do without .
