End the OOC schedule discussion.....it doesn’t matter

You know the key number here,

Nevada 22-10(1 nonD1), NC St 23-10, Miss St 21-12, Providence 21-11, ASU 22-12, Pitt 22-11
Rutgers 19-14

Didn't matter NC St had 10 Q4, Providence had 11 Q4s
Didn't matter NC St had only 1 Q1 win, 8-10 Q1/2, Pitt 7-9 1/2,
Didn't matter Providence was only 7-10 Q1/2 or 10-11 Q123.

According to this committee this year, all the teams that made it needed to win more than the other guy, 21-23 total wins at the bubble, they Kept It Simple, Stupid(KISS). Next year might be different.

Agree with this after looking over the whole bracket. At large looks like only 4 teams made it with less than 20 wins, 19-12 Mich St, 19-13 Iowa and 19-14 WVU. 20 wins and playing in a major conf should do it. We need to take the SEC football approach to OOC. They schedule four cupcakes and go 3-5 in conference and everyone says they are good because they are 7-5 while playing in the SEC. OOC should be all cupcakes to help get to 20 or more wins.

These guys move the goal posts every year. A few years ago they trotted some selection guy out to talk to the media about this alchemy of theirs...and he explained how the number of road victories a team had was of paramount importance. Being on the NCAA Basketball tournament Selection Commitee is the only job that's better than being an on-camera meteorologist! GO RU!

Should we schedule like Michigan?

Neutral site games with Kentucky and North Carolina. Arizona State and Pitt in an MTE. Virginia in the ACC challenge. Great schedule. Really worked out well for them.

The key number of regular season losses to avoid is 13....we landed right at 13. If we had 12, we'd be in the NCAAs.

The key is 10-2 & 10-10, which is 20-12..don't worry about 0-1 or 1-1 in conference tournaments, it won't matter.

Find a schedule that ensures you don't have more than 2 OOC losses, build your depth and move on.

If RU enters January with 3 to 4 OOC losses and 1-1 in the B1G December games, you're starting January 2024 at 8-5 or maybe 9-4...and are asking the team to go 11-7 or 12-6 in the remaining B1G games. It's an absurd path that NO school has done successfully.

Hawk - your point makes sense if you want to compete just for a bid. And if you somehow finish top 4 In conference maybe you’d secure a top 5 seed. BUT

Isn’t the goal to one day avoid sweating on selection Sunday ? And maybe compete for a top seed? More chances in the non conference schedule against power 5 teams (November tourney) allows that And Eliminates the need to win 14 big ten games to compete for a top 5 seed. AND at worse, playing more Q1 and Q2 opponents only helps, giving more chance of good wins and less chance for q3 and q4 losses. those do more harm.
