Basketball Jacob Young in the Portal

Since everyone gets an extra year, why not throw your name in the portal (if you graduated)? Keeps another door opened if anything interests you. You can still go pro (which is where my money would still be for JY), but if an opportunity you can’t pass up comes up you can now go that route.

Maybe he wants to go to a team where he’s the guy and he can put up 20+ points and improve his stock he’s been to the NCAA tournament now with two different teams so the glory of that maybe isn’t as sweet as being the superstar increasing your stock to make even more money overseas overseas

If he is going to play college ball, obviously I'd prefer he stayed. If a blue blood came calling and basically handed him the keys, would be tough to say no though. Could really bump up his stock if he has any dream of playing in the NBA

He could just be testing the portal waters to see what options are out there.

If a top 5-10 team shows interest (which I’m sure they would) maybe he thinks it’s one last shot to get exposure and make to the league vs. going oversees.

Ok great so all good if Cliff O, Harper and Jones did that too? Let's see if someone better comes calling.

He turns 24 in September, so at this point if he stays in college for another year he wouldn’t be starting his pro career until age 25. Seems like an odd move.

He left his first college to come to us. Now he is leaving us to go to his third. Why the surprise?
There is no such thing as loyalty anymore. You can give a scholarship to an unknown kid, invest 3 years
in him, he get famous and leaves not even having to explain himself. It is going to get worse and more worser, wait and see.

It’s a backup plan. Put your name in the portal so you still have another shot at showing scouts what you can do if there isn’t any G-League or overseas interest. There should be interest though.

Maybe seeing if there’s an option close to home for a year before going overseas? I figure Myles is going closer to home too.

Being 24-25 in the ncaa isn’t going to improve his stock lol
Maybe it will if he progresses next year as much as he did from last year to this year. He turned into a much better offensive and defensive player this year compared to last. If he made that kind of improvement next year, I think that he definitely winds up on an NBA roster despite being 25.

Not sure why you would compare Young to any of them - totally different situation. None of them have graduated.

Young is graduated - it’s so common for kids to do a grad transfer year at a school that could be a perfect fit these days (for both basketball and football).

Honestly surprised he's even entertaining a transfer - really thought he was 100% to professional ball in Europe, with a possibility of trying to get into the G-League. Really don't see how another year in college is going to improve his stock much.

This will all be interesting to see what happens. No comments or conclusions yet as this is still all up in the air. But Pikiell is so on the record with loving his players, how special things are, etc. Its certainly a different time, generation, process...but the ending will be interesting to dissect.

The whole CBB is a total fraud.
He will be in big demand since he is very good.
Who cares how old he is?
Players are now playing into their 50s. Look at Brady.
He has 25 years left as a pro when he decides to go to the NBA.
Wish him the best.

The transfer portal. It's...
