Kentucky Derby Picks?

I don't know much about horse racing , but like a lot of people I enjoy the 3 big races and a couple of summer days at Monmouth park . I hit up my local OTW last night on route 1 in fords , it was already pretty crowded . I am the designated guy in my office to go over and place bets (after work hours of course ) . Thankfully, know how to use the automated machines , otherwise would have been on line for a while .
So I am taking the 2 sudden breaking news and the 15 outwork . Putting each on top and seeing if I can hit an exacta . I probably won't , but it's a fun day and event . Not sure why more people aren't into it .

Nyquist seems to be pretty special at 7 for 7. He has done nothing wrong and win today and the Triple Crown hype begins. I disagree about last year, we didnt get the American Pharoah greatness hype until after his win, he wwas only slight favorite over Dortmund. I see something similar with Nyquist. Id bet Nyquist with a bunch of 10-15-1 shots maybe Creator, maybe Mohaymen at a price for a modest payoff
For the average Joe, casual fan, there isn't any hype for the Triple Crown until after someone wins the Derby. However, for people that follow horse racing and those that are in the industry there was plenty of hype about American Pharoah. He was voted the 2 Year Old Eclipse Award Champion and that was without running in the Breeders Cup!! That doesn't happen anymore. Go back and look at his wins leading up to the Derby. Eye-popping performances. As a 2 year old he was a 7-5 favorite on his first trip to the track. That tells you people already saw something. He lost his first race and was still a close 2nd favorite next time on the track. His 3rd race he was a 1-2 favorite in his second straight Grade 1 win. Yes, there was tons of hype about that horse.
There is much not to like about Nyquist. Speed for one, stretching out for another but his 7-7 is manly a product of a very weak 2 year old crop. It happens. He is a deserving favorite today. Will be a huge favorite in the Preakness if he wins or hits the board with the shorter distance. Belmont right now will be extremely hard. No one sees him in the same category as American Pharoah.

Has anyone been to the satellite in Hillsborough? Changed destination from Monmouth to there. Ample parking? Mcloone's is there right?

Electric went out at Delaware Park the moment I walked into place bets...hope that wasn't a sign

Gun Runner,,NYQUIST & MOHAYMAN. but just know Exaggerator will knock one of them out.

Hope the doubters start believing. NYQUIST will be a heavy fave at the Preakness..could Exaggerator skip that to wait to ambush at the Belmont?

First time in a long while that the top 4 betting choices ran 1-2-3-4. Talk about chalk.

Same here Monk but 30.50 was much nicer payout then I expected on 30 buck box. I definitely think exaggerator wins one of the next two as long as Jockey stays sober.

I always respect the handle and payouts
the Derby.I think that today's winner might be one of those athletes that does just enough to win.And win.And win again. Hopefully he doesn't go off at 3-5 in Balmore.

Awful payouts
Better than coming close and not winning anything because you did add the horse you just knew would spoil your bet in your bets.:chairshot:
oops: another mistake > should have been because you didn't add the horse instead of "did".

How true. I had 4 superfecta with 13-11-14 and no 5.

sorry new to this horse wagering...

kind of wanted to ride the Nyquist hype, and I just did the Win place show all on nyquist... do people normally bet like that? I'm just wondering if that's a common bet for a favorite?

I did play a $2 exacta box with the 5-9-11-13. It cost $24 and I believe it paid $30. I had the Trifecta in there but a $48 ticket (I think) in a 20 horse field is tough to play.

I do feel that this horse Nyquist is the best in the field. Keith Desormeaux will probably skip the Preakness with Exaggerator and aim him towards the Belmont. There's a very very special undefeated Filly out there named Song Bird. She has a front running style and her times are better than Nyquist. She did run in Keenland last year to win the Juvenile Fillies convincingly but most of her races are solely in Santa Anita and Delmar. I defer to Whitebus but I believe this Filly can beat Nyquist in the Preakness.
