Only four power conference teams in it this year (Oklahoma St, Stanford, Georgia Tech, and SMU). At least most of the teams in it are probably happy to be there, which is a refreshing change for the NIT

Having that Crown Basketball tournament in Vegas takes any of the worthy/interested programs from B10, Big East and Big 12 so just watering down tournaments nobody wants to watch even more

The NIT will probably have more inspired basketball than Crown

NIT used to be a great way for younger teams that missed the tournament to get more game reps to set them up for the next season - or to give senior-laded classes an opportunity to play together a little longer. With the elimination of all checks on player transfers, that is gone - there's no telling how many of these kids will even be back (and there are no more senior-laden classes), and the team chemistry is likely to change so much before the next season that any additional game reps would be wasted.

In years past, this would have been a prime year for Rutgers to accept a bid... just 3 guys running out of eligibility (Acuff, Martini, Hayes) and 5 freshmen looking to take over the team next year (including two that only started playing mid-season). But now? 50% of our minutes are walking out the door, and no telling how many of the remaining 50% will still be on the roster next year.

There's almost no value prop to the NIT at this point.
