Diaz may still turn out to be a good closer, but Mickey can't sacrifice meaningful games just to restore Diaz's fragile ego.

Got to tip your cap to them for today. This time their bullpen got the better of it. This time they had the bigger hits late. We had chances all through the game. Hit some at em balls. Especially Ramos in the 7th. Always nice to win the last one for an added boost before heading out on the road. Didnt feel like it was meant to be today. Diaz made sure of it. Gsellman not reliable either. Wilson might need to be almost a strictly lefties guy.

Everybody has to win everyday
Phillies tonight is a so called must win....
Cubs at philly with Vargas Tuesday night.
Brewers play Cards Cubs ect.
Think Phillies play something like Mets Braves Mets Red Sox Nats Braves

Ahh , I think I got it. 66-0 when mariners had lead. 4 loses were tie games in top 9th.
I know I saw 66-0 on a mets broadcast this year.

What does Diaz has to do to lose his "closer/ 9th inning" role? Big reason why the Mets cant get over the WC hump instead of battling for first place.
They were down. He wasn't pitching in a closer role. Managers today often pull pitchers too quickly early in the game then they are stuck with no one at the end of the game. Lugo wasn't available today.

Today Brad Brach became the 29th Met to pitch in a game this season. All real pitchers, no position players in mop-up roles.

TWENTY-NINE pitchers. From Avilan to Zamora. And it's only August 11. That is almost incomprehensible.

Shockingly only 9 pitchers have made starts. If we exclude the spot starts by Font, Lockett and Flexen, we have had a very stable starting 5. If you trade Vargas for Stroman, this staff has stayed healthy.

Seattle is laughing uncontrollably at the Mets.
As a mariners fan, we have nothing to laugh about. Worst team in baseball to root for the past 25 years. Do you know they are the only team in baseball to not make the World Series?

Every Washington DC team never made the World Series

When you play 27 innings, and you hold the lead after exactly THREE of those 27 innings, and you still win the series... I guess we can't complain.
Very true but any way you slice it with the first 2 in hand and the pitching matchup today, to not complete the sweep is very disappointing to me. Feels like we let them off the mat somewhat.

Got a secret for everyone...we will lose another game this season too...

I am not stressing over our first loss in 9 games. I am stressing Diaz though.
The game itself- hell, hinged on an error and that is not going to stress me either. Alonso is far from a GG but he has played the position very well and he is just a rookie. deGrom is a good athlete and field well too. Shit happens.
Sounds like we missed a few opportuniies at bat, oh well, again, shit happens. It will be a problem when we arent getting big hit night after night. then, I stress.
Micky is Micky...I do stress over him.

For right now, 2 of 3 from the Nats. Let's try to do the same against the Braves and more important, have the other teams lose.

Day off today and let's get on another roll!

To improve the Bullpen, any thought about promoting Ervin Santana and having him pitch out of the bullpen? I know hes been a starter his whole career but let's be creative and maybe he can be the 8th inning guy ahead of Lugo. Also please DFA Altherr and bring up Rajai. I'd say also to demote Guiilome but I'll cut him some slack since he hit the pinch hit HR on Saturday. Hopefully with guys like Freddy Galvis being cut, we'll see some OFs get cut that maybe the mets can sign or hopefully Nimmo is back as I believe he is starting a minor league rehab soon

yes - think you hit the nail on the head, Diaz and Mickey are the main concerns at this point. Familia behind that.

Yup..and I’d even venture to say Mickey is the bigger concern (and that’s saying something). The Mets are winning despite him. He’s the worst Mets manager since Art Howe.

Let's get this rolling again tonight!!! We win 7 and then lost and then 8 and then lost so this is the start of a 9 gamer!!

The remaining schedule is pretty brutal though except for 3 against KC and 4 against the Marlins.

IDK. Santana's been meh as a AAA starter - ERA 4.45, WHIP 1.57, BAA .285. Absolutely no reason to believe he'd flourish as a high-leverage reliever in the bigs.

But who the hell knows? It's SO hard to predict. Take Steven Nogosek for instance. Starts the year in AA and is lights out. Gets promoted to AAA and is even better. Gets promoted to majors and gets shelled. Goes back to AAA and is lights out again. Does he deserve another shot? How about Drew Gagnon, who just pitched a one-hitter? Or somebody like a Matt Blackham, who just got promoted to Syracuse and has given up three hits in 8.1 innings?

This I do know - Chris Mazza has to go. Nothing personal, he's a nice story, but the Mets have absolutely no faith in him and will not use him in any meaningful situation. So why is he on the roster?

I guess it comes down to - Familia and Diaz MUST deliver, big time, if the Mets are to win. They've done it before and must do it again. There is no viable Plan B, at least none that I can see.

Does Diaz have options? Let Mazza and Aterr go. Can't afford to carry dead weight especially this time of the year in a playoff race.
