Noah has to get to the base quickly, so Rosario has an easier throw, but at the same time, Rosario has to realize who he is throwing to in that situation and he needs to remember there was a runner on third at the time.
Noah seems off in a lot of ways lately. His pitching. His fielding. And he cost himself by getting picked off at second.

Nah sticky. The point is that some guys havent signed because they wont settle. I guess you think Darnaud and Nido deserve to be on the team ahead of Mesoraco.
Alonso with another clutch game saving HR!! Him and McNeil have carried us pretty much.
Give BVW and Mickey credit for handling Alonso right. They had planned splitting 1B duties between Alonso and Smith. When they saw what they had in Alonso, they correctly discarded that plan.
On the other hand, BVW's biggest off-season error IMO was not believing his eyes about McNeil. He viewed McNeil as a supersub, not an everyday player. This viewpoint prompted BVW to make moves and spend money that might have better been spent elsewhere.

Alfonso has locked up first base, but Smith deserves to be on the team over a couple of players. Smith would backup Alfonso and McNeil. Davis should have more opportunities to play third. Rosario needs to see a sports psychologist.
I think they've given up on Smith to LF. With today's short benches, it's hard to carry a backup 1B who can't play elsewhere. Especially one who lacks HR pop, which Smith appears to lack so far.
Mets need a Kelly Johnson type for their bench. That's what BVW envisioned McNeil would be, but he's developed into much more than that.

Big Win last night. Padres are a chirpy bunch. Hope we can take two out of three today. Alonso's shot still has not landed. That man has serious power.
According to the NY Post, Lowrie is due back with the team Friday, meaning another roster move. It looks like JD Davis is a goner but I really prefer they DFA TF. He looked lost at the plate last night and left iirc 4 runners in scoring position. I like Todd personally but I think he is done. Davis is young and it would be nice to see what we have in him.
Given up on Smith in LF because of his defense? Like the this team is full of gold glove players.:joy: Smith's lack of power fits right in with this team. Outside of Alfonso there no real consistent threat of a power hitter. This a flawed team and Dom gives more than some of the dead weight on the team. I'm sure deGrom wouldn't mind one more capable stick in the lineup when he pitches. [roll]
Nimmo should have been the player sent to the minors. He needs to work out a few things right now. Boxton should have never been on the roster. He's a carbon copy of Lagares. Instead of over paying for some of these veterans position players, the money should have been used on the bullpen. I think the Mets over paid for Familia.
Sending down Davis is the easy course of action since he would remain under team control. Plus he probably needs to play regularly. I doubt Mets are ready to give up on Frazier yet. I think he gets another month. I would not be saddened if they DFA'd Broxton, but that would leave them short in the outfield.
Alonso stepping up as a leader too, which is nice since Mickey is putz:

I still feel like that trade was so rushed. He was on the job for a month and there were no other rumors that anyone was trying to get a deal like that done. Imagine if he also gave up McNeil in that trade like it was originally planned? Also we could be in a lot better shape with McNeil as the everyday 2B and the Cano money spent elsewhere. What's done is done but I still just don't like how that all went down. Kelenic is killing it so far for the Mariners also.
Hindsight is 20/20, and at least this blogger says not so fast.
We got Diaz out of that trade.
Cano is still a solid player and a veteran to mentor the younger infielders. He went 4/5 last night. He was in a major slump, and maybe he is coming out of it.

And some of these guys act like factors other than performance doesn't play a part in who keeps a job and who doesn't. Now Davis may well be gone while Frazier and his .140 b.a. and Nimmo hang around.
Well it's not really hindsight as there were a lot of us who were against the deal from the beginning. I'm hoping it works out for the best obviously. Let's see where the chips fall at the end of the year.

I remember at the beginning of the season, the SNY crew were going on about how he was a great mentor to Rosario, who was learning a lot from Cano. But that raises a question- what did Rosario learn about fielding? [roll]

I get this but rarely does an everyday player have 50 games or more that they actually do have a truly game impacting performance.
As for the 2nd point...very true and this is the failing of our Manager...
I know he was never a GG but he was at least average...WTF is going on with him?
The problem with these two is that they both want top $ and long term.
The casr of Mesoraco is a strange one indeed. More so that no one else has given him a flier
Smith also had such a great attitude that I think him being there also helped guys like Alonso and Davis.
I had mixed emotions about the deal but as time passes I look at it as Kelenic and Dunn for Diaz. Where would we be without him? The money we sent back in Bruce and Swarz plus the 20 million the Mariners ate makes it a little more palatable. Forgetting those guys, would you not have traded Dunn and Kelenic, who are both still a few years away from the majors for an established closer. I think you have to make that deal.
This could be Lowrie's role but of course they paid him all that money so he HAVE to start over McNeil and Davis.

I'm not in position to watch the game, but why didn't Conforto score from 2nd on Nimmo's double?
The ball was almost a HR, and the outfielder bobbled the ball out of his glove, so Conforto held up. It was the right call by him.
Mets follow up a must win with a clunker. I don't know who should go, but it's time for change. Maybe a few players go as well as the coach. Fresh start.
Something in my gut tells me the Mets will be about 10 games out of first by early June. Then you'll hear talk about Calloway being on the hot seat and a few players being traded. The Coupons will still say they are all in. :chairshot:
On a different note...Does McNeil still qualify as a rookie or too many plate appearances last year?
Did not see game today, just read a couple reports now. A consistent message in those reports was that it sure would have been nice to have a lefty bat off the bench in the seventh.
