Did not see game today, just read a couple reports now. A consistent message in those reports was that it sure would have been nice to have a lefty bat off the bench in the seventh.
Nido cracked a homer, which was nice. Nimmo was robbed of a HR, and he made a spectacular catch in the field. Wilmer looked serviceable on the mound.

Only went 4 innings tho. If this is what being the 5th starter has mutated into, stretch Lugo and/ or Gsellman or so that can be the 5th starter. What's the point when both are better than the 5th starter?

Funt wasn't stretched prior to this game. He'd been pitching out of the pen in Tampa. With the off day tomorrow they made it a bullpen game. But you're right, in the long run four innings from your fifth starter is not sustainable.

Mets need to decide if they are going to be all in or rebuild. If they are going to be all in, then need to sign Keuchel and fire Callaway. If they re going to rebuild then start selling. Otherwise, this is just difficult to watch.

They made it clear with the veteran signings and trades that they're in win now mode. It would be a disaster to immediately go into rebuild mode after a month with the offseason they had.

I took a closer look at their major signings and releases. Couldnt count Lowrie as he hasn't played.
But if you consider
Gained: Cano, Davis, Broxton, Ramos, Diaz, Wilson, Familia
Lost: Bruce, Flores, Cabrera, Plawecki, Swarzack

It is tough to say if they are winners or losers to this point.
Batting: Interesting to note - Gained and lost 2 Inf, 1 OF, 1 C
Gained:
AB 364 R 41 H 86 RBI 39 D 18 T 0 HR 7 SB 4 BA .236 OPP .302
Lost:
AB 356 R 51 H 79 RBI 60 D19 T 0 HR 21 SB 0 BA .222 OBP .296

Pitching
Gained:
W 2 L 2 SV 10 IP 38 H 36 BB 21 K 48 ERA 4.50 Whip 1.54
Lost:
W 2 L 2 SV 3 IP 10.1 H 11 BB 7 K 12 ERA 6.10 Whip 1.74

With this said: to this point, except for Diaz, the moves may wash each other out and argument could be made that the offense we lost is doing better then the offense we picked up.

I don't put it all on BVW. This is year 1...hell, it takes Ash 8 years to execute a 3 year plan.

But Ramos is a huge upgrade over last year and while he isnt a .300 hitter with 20 HR or gold glove- he should give us more then we have had back there in a while. Realmuto is much better but then we would be missing McNeil, conforto etc...maybe even Alonso
Cano is Cano but Diaz is the real deal. Plus we got rid of two fairly large contracts.
Jerrys- mistake
Starting pitching is all still here.
Alonso is up.
Davis is a good player to have and Lowrey is a professional.
Team is a lot better in 2019 then it was in 2017/2018.

Now, what does he do from here?

Our problem is that the manager or whoever is calling the shots, is an idiot. Nimmo gets 3 hits, sit him and get cold again. McNeil gets 3 hits, sit him, thankfully he is still hitting. Davis gets 3 hits, sit him. Todd comes back- let's **** up the chem and put his ofer bat in there everyday.
Left handed bat off the bench and great defensive replacement, send his ass back to the minors.
Run out of RP's before the game even begins? WTF?
Need I say more. Lineups and bullpen , are the only thing a f-ing manager in baseball does.
I really liked Ramos but so far he has not been an upgrade offensively or defensively overall although the first few weeks of the season his hitting and especially clutch hitting were good

According to the NY Post, Lowrie is due back with the team Friday, meaning another roster move. It looks like JD Davis is a goner but I really prefer they DFA TF. He looked lost at the plate last night and left iirc 4 runners in scoring position. I like Todd personally but I think he is done. Davis is young and it would be nice to see what we have in him.
Broxton should go

I know he was never a GG but he was at least average...WTF is going on with him?

The problem with these two is that they both want top $ and long term.

The casr of Mesoraco is a strange one indeed. More so that no one else has given him a flier

Smith also had such a great attitude that I think him being there also helped guys like Alonso and Davis.
They can’t mets still own his rights

Cabrera was traded last year during the season

Please Brodie DFA Todd today. He looked lost and was guessing in a big spot yesterday with two on and the game on the line.

I think they've given up on Smith to LF. With today's short benches, it's hard to carry a backup 1B who can't play elsewhere. Especially one who lacks HR pop, which Smith appears to lack so far.

Mets need a Kelly Johnson type for their bench. That's what BVW envisioned McNeil would be, but he's developed into much more than that.

Agree with other points!
I thought I read somewhere MLB is going to expand the roster to 27 players. Plus there will be a limit on the number of pitchers a team can carry. Have you heard anything similar?

Matz to 10 day IL, Dom Smith returns. Go figure. I cannot.

Anyway, this leaves an 11 man pitching staff which in today's game is not sustainable. More shoes will be dropping soon.

In reality, an 11 man pitching staff should be enough but in this day in age specialists rule the day. A pitcher should be able to get hitters out regardless of which side of the plate they hit. What's next? Starting pitchers pitch every day because they are limited to one inning per game.:chairshot:

You may get your wish next year when the three batter minimum rule is implemented.

Mets now have only three starting pitchers on the active roster. That will get them through the weekend, and they have an off day Monday. But they will definitely need to reinforce the staff on Tuesday, when they begin a stretch of 20 games in a row without an off day. My guess is they will go to a 13 man staff then. That, plus Lowrie's activation, would mean that three position players would have to go.

Who would've thought that at this point in the season, the Nats with Scherzer, Strasburg & Corbin, and the Mets with deGrom, Thor, Wheeler and Diaz in the pen would be struggling?

These teams right now can't hit. If I'm Philly, try to put some distance between yourself and them. Philly has the weakest staff of all the NL east teams and it may come back to bite them like last year. The market will correct itself and the division will tighten up.

Man, your super power is super duper today. Can you post shit about baseball, particularly the Mets before every game?

Mets need to play the fish at home for the rest of May.
WTF happened to the Fish? Why did they trade away all of their talent?

Why in hell is Wheeler pitching the 7th with a rested BP and in a blowout?
Can’t wat for Davis to go to the bench again after 3 hits...

d'Arnaud a Dodger no more:

The Dodgers announced that they have traded catcher Travis d'Arnaud to the Rays for cash considerations. d'Arnaud appeared in one game last night after signing with LA on Sunday.
