OT: 2023 NY Jets Season Thread

Did anyone catch Mark Sanchez ripping the Jets for scoring the winning touchdown?

He was wrong IMO. I'd rather give Hurts the ball with 1:45 left needing a TD, than with 50 seconds left needing a FG.
Yea I disagreed with announcers position. If you run the clock down and play for 3 you give eagles chance to win on a field goal. Touchdown required eagles to score a td to win. The way the defense was playing salah made right decision.

Was that TD run at the end on 2nd down or 3rd? I thought it was on 2nd but
I may be wrong

It was on 1st. Eagles let Jets score, and Jets accepted the gift.

If somehow you know you can score a TD on 3rd, then you take two knees and force the final two timeouts. But you don't. So you take the TD when you can.

If it gets to 4th down, then you MUST kick the FG. Without question. Even from the one inch line.

So fun to watch.

Zach needs to get rid of the ball faster - oh and he needs to make sure Rogers is on the sideline for every game. ZW plays better with him there for sure.

1st down. You run hard until yo see they are not trying and then down yourself at the 1. At very least, it makes them burn a TO..,
You don’t play games at that point and try to run the next play in. If they stuff you, they will burn their last T/o even if you have to settle for a FG. They would only have 40 seconds or so to do so with no TO.

40 seconds is time for two chunk plays and two spikes. Assuming the Eagles start at the 25, they only need about 35 yards. Elliott can hit from 60.

I'd rather make them go 75 yards, even with more time and more TO's. Because it's the last 20 yards that are the toughest. If all you need is a FG, you get to bypass those.

I used to watch Zack and wonder what the Jets saw in him.
I've recently seen him throwing some real laser-darts into very tight spaces
Kid has an arm I'll give him that

I haven’t wanted a player to succeed more than ZW.

I posted a pre-draft analysis on ZW earlier in this thread in which they agreed his arm talent is off the charts. Biggest criticism was his inability to throw his players open. I see it all the time now.

I am certain the OL play and frankly some of the play calling - amazing how ordinary an OC can look when they don’t have a HOF QB taking snaps - aren’t doing him favors.

I disagree, because of the specifics in this case.

You still want the TD, and you aren’t going for it on 4th down. So, if are able to control the situation perfectly you score a TD on 3rd down and the Eagles still get the ball with 1:30 left and all you did was burn their timeouts.

If you don’t score the 3rd down TD you are kicking off with a one point lead with 45 seconds left, which is a lot of time left.

There isn’t enough upside here to play around (what the Jets did and what Sanchez wanted still require you stop them on 4 downs with your defense). The strategy Sanchez was calling for only makes sense if not trying to score leaves the opponent with minimal or no time left to respond.

Tue Jets defense is elite and was playing like it. That had to figure into Salah’s decision.

Oh and Breece is pretty good too 😜

I don’t agree about downing the ball when you can score and go ahead at the end of the game. If the team is behind, by all means score the TD. Anything can happen, especially when everything is so tight down near the goal line. Fumbles do happen. You simply don’t know what will happen in the future and trying to anticipate it isn’t wise in my opinion.

Was it reported that it was Saleh's decision ? Or did it just happen without foresight and planning ?

We've seen Taylor and Wilson screw up goal-line offense these last two weeks so you've got to wonder if the coaches are lost in the moment.

maybe. depends on time left and how many TOs the other team has.

I don't know if Saleh or anyone had advised team what to do. I would think they were aware of the value of a TD vs a FG, but given what we also saw earlier in the game who knows.

I don't understand why people are discussing this. Unless you can run the clock down to kick the GW FG on last play of the game, you score the TD.

Reason I ask, is because I’m convinced even professional coaches are not any more intelligent than the rest of us in these situations. Too often you see obvious mistakes. Sure they have more on their minds during a game than we do, but still…

So, I doubt Saleh or Hackett had the foresight to tell Hall to score there. Plus, in general they know the players want the stats so it’s an easy out to say nothing.

Is this the earliest the 1973 Dolphins got to pop the cork with no undefeated teams left? Week #6 last to be the earliest in a long time, not just since 1973.

He has to be one of the worst quarterbacks I have ever seen. By the way, I have been watching football since 1960. A one legged Aaron Rogers would be an improvement.

Watched the end just in time to see the Giants lose. Neither team deserved to win.

Zak Wilson is the worst QB ever. The #2 overall pick shouldn't work so hard to be that bad.

You haven’t watched a lot of NFL football. I’ve seen this crap for 50+ years. I’ve seen much worse QBs. There is this thing called an offensive line and they are suppose to block the defensive front. If they don’t, even very good QBs look like crap. Suggestion, next time you watch a game, don’t follow the ball for a few series, just watch the line play.

Well, maybe 2nd worse ever. Can anyone tell me how Tommy DeVito is on an NFL roster? He was outplayed by Noah Vedral in the dome two years ago. We held him under 150 yards, 0 TDs, and 1 intercept (by Max Melton).

He was pretty good in preseason.

But he's a 3rd stringer. A rookie playing on the practice squad just a couple weeks ago.
