Death toll keeps going up. I'm hoping it stops there, but some pretty horrific injuries occurred.
It's sad that some poster's first instinct is to go all out political at a time like this. Spanks, instead of moving this one too, how about just delete the political posts?

Typical, his advisors have given him horrific advice once again.
Ex wife of shooter claimed he was mentally unstable, shooter's father claimed his son became upset after seeing two men kiss. Could be an anti gay terrorist attack with an unstable asshat trying to make like it was more than a domestic terrorist attack against the gays he hated by claiming allegiance to a known terrorist group.
I understand the FBI checked him out a few years back and didn't find anything , but don't know exactly why they were looking into him.
The one thing we shouldn't do is make claims against anyone that isn't pointing fingers at a terriost origination until all the facts are known.
Easy to claim a political figure should say something, then easier to jump on them if they were wrong pointing the blame in the wrong direction.
Too often we criticize just because of our political agenda and use a tragedy like this to do it.

Didn't they also just arrest a guy in California who was headed to a gay parade to kill more people?
What made it an act of domestic terror is not that it occurred in the US, but that the perpetrator was a US citizen.
Also Obama said:"it was too early to know the precise motivations of the killer", but he said the FBI would investigate any possible links the gunman had to terrorist groups.
Domestic terror fits and links to terrorist organizations not proven yet, though it might be an unstable person decided to claimed to be a ISIS member without that terror group even knowing anything about that scum. Until he called 911 claiming to be a member then killing gays because he hated them ISIS might never have been part of that scumbags life.
My understanding is that the head of Isis in Raqqa looked through his US White Page directories and hand picked the Orlando club as the site of the attack. He then used his Ovaltine decoder ring and sent a message to the dead suspect which was sent to him through a relay station operated out of a white house on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington DC by a Kenyan born Islamic fundamentalist. The suspect was planted in the US years ago by Isis even before there was an Isis and it was believed that every time he saw the Jack of Spades he knew to watch for his next assignment. He was last seen playing blackjack at a local casino; the last hand he played was a Ace of hearts and Jack of spades. Security cameras have him leaving the casino without his cashing his chips.
He was known to the FBI since 2013. Had made ISIS related comments to coworkers.
Maybe it was another case of "Workplace Violence."
But let's not be hasty.
We are better off waiting until we are officially told what we are allowed to believe about this incident.

Hard for me to think they found something and he still was able to own an assault weapon.
Since he worked as a security guard for a facility that takes care of juvenile troublemakers I would assume he had a background check by his employer and no ties to terrorist organizations were found. Also if the FBI found anything of substance linking him to a terrorist organization he wouldn't be allowed to work in a place like he did and allowed to own an assault weapon.
Though there are many on the no fly list that can own assault weapons, and he might have been on that list the way some here are implying he was a known terrorist . I don't find that humorous at all.
I just feel instead of jumping to the conclusion he was a member of ISIS we wait till all the facts come out and see if he really was ISIS or an unstable person using that terrorist organization as an excuse for his hate crime.
ISIS would gladly claim him as one of their own, even if they never heard of him before.
All these postings about the shooter's choice of weaponry are misguided. An AR-type semi-auto obviously can be obtained legally or not and used effectively for mass murder. Sure. But a 12-gauge pump loaded with 5 to 8 rounds of OO-Buck is devastating, as well. Each shell throws 12 pellets, each of which is roughly equivalent to a 9 mm bullet. That's 60 to 96 9mm projectiles in 5 to 7 seconds. Multiply that by two or three shooters, working in sync. And then reloading. Cheap. Easy. Devastatingly deadly. You can get them at Walmart.
So step away from the weaponry angle. The key to minimizing these events is to prioritize intelligence initiatives here in the states and abroad. Wouldn't hurt to look toward our Israeli friends for best-practices. Tough times call for tough measures. Sad state of affairs, sure. But gotta deal with this shiite, in a smart, brutal fashion. We'll see more and more of these terror episodes, aimed at mass gatherings around the states. "See something. Say something." Sure. But it'll take $ to put measures in place to act on these tips.

The president should definitely not rush to judgment. However, that's just his cop out when the facts don't fit the narrative he wants to push. How come there is never an issue with rushing to judgment when something involves cops or race?

The assault weapon ban ended in 2004 and that might have a little to do with the availability of being able to use that type of weapon in mass shootings that have become commonplace over the last 10 years. ( Though assault weapons before the law was signed were allowed, the assault weapon ban did help keep them off the streets because no assault weapons could be manufactured after the law was signed )
I think the mass shooting of school children in 1989 ( 34 teachers and children shot , 5 killed) had a lot to do with getting that ban in effect, but it took around 5 years to get the assault weapon ban from the time of that Stockton CA. shooting till it was signed into law in 1994.
Something needs to be done and banning weapons that can be used for mass killings like this needs to be put in place before the next time it happens and you can bet it will.

The world seems to be reporting this as a Terrorist attack using Isis and describing it a terror attack.
