Addition by subtraction IMO. Especially if no universal DH. $20+ million freed up from the budget. Yeah I know there is no budget yet. But there will be, and $20+ million has been freed up from it.

Also frees up a spot if no DH. McNeil could now slide over to 2nd base and Dom in left. Few other options depending on trades/signings.

if the Lindor rumors come to fruition, figure either Smith or McNeil is gone. Regardless of the resolution of the DH question.

would def not include McNeil in any trade. smith is expendable if there is no DH but would love to keep him too.

Example 1252 why I would never sign a player over 27 to more than a 5 year deal unless its extenuating circumstances or the player is critical to the marketing of your organization. Example, the Angeles had no choice but to give Trout whatever he wanted but that is the unicorn example. The fact that Seattle gave Cano all those years or that Ellsbury, Stanton etc. were able to sign those contracts is baffling to me.

Sign DJ! Go to war with the evil empire! Sign DJ! And void Cano s contract or just waive him.

Many here (@yesrutgers01 ) were pumped when the Mets signed “crazy”Robbie. I was ripped relentlessly for saying it was one of the worst signings/trades in baseball history and clueless BVW was throwing a bone to a pet client and Seattle couldn’t believe somebody would take this disaster off their hands.

doubt I get an apology or thank you today.

Yeah...the Mets could finish last with or without Robbie.

You are absolutely correct. You don't get an apology or thank you.

I would guess the Players Association will be all over this if the Mets try to void the remainder of his contract beyond this season. In the end the reach a negotiated settlement that will still cost a pretty penny, but less than the contract amount and Cano becomes a free agent.

Wait, what?
Actually, I can't even just leaving it here...WTF are you even talking about?
I can't even remember back to when they made this deal to be honest. If I were to try to remember and only guessing- it would be the same as it was this season. That if not for the money(and I believe at that time, we all thought most of his salary was NOT going to be paid by us) that it got us what we thought was an elite closer under control and an aging player who could be a good backfill. Plus, at that time, we had a hole in the Inf. Once we knew we were picking up 20 mil plus, it made it a horrible trade. And like everyone else, did not like giving up the biggest prize in our minor league system.
2019 made it even worse as Diaz sucked, Cano sucked. McNeil became a super star, Davis, Smith emerged. Someone was going to get F-ed because of Cano's contract. 2020 happened and the DH was here- Cano actually earned his salary, Diaz was pretty damn good. But, Cano's contract gets in the way of us getting younger and better. And we are still all holding our breath on what we gave up. The best I said about the trade is that as bad as it was- it looks at least a little better.
Pumped- at no time was anyone "Pumped" and you were not the only one that hated it.
You are just a strange person. Either very young or very old. And even saying that- I apologize to those that are both young and old who I just insulted.

Back to reality- the PED finding is GREAT for the Met's. It just made things so much clearer. Prior to this happening- 2 things were really screwing us up that this fixes. Cano's money- not that Cohen can't handle 20 mil but that contract forces us to play the guy and he was untradeable and secondarily, he actually proved he can still hit. May have been our 3rd best hitter all year.
But he is also the reason we had to figure out what to do with McNeil, Davis, Smith
Him being out, makes that so much easier. In my world, I now plant McNeil at 2nd and Davis at 3B and just leave that alone. Now, all we have to figure out is what to do about Nimmo and Smith.
Both need to be major league starters. I just don't know who I would prefer. DH would make it so much easier.
But now, if I could get Lindor for let's say Nimmo/Gimeniz or Rosario - I would make that trade today. Throw bags of cash at Springer and Bauer, if I can't get JT then get a guy like McCan behind the plate and sign up for the WS in 2021...

Agree with someone above that we negotiate a buyout with Cano and he never sees a Met's Uniform again

If Kelenic is as good as advertised this will be one of the worst trades in Mets history. BVW's parting gift to the Mets I guess. Not sure how teams are supposed to build their rosters without knowing if they will need a DH or not. What is the hold up?

Saying Cano was a terrible move is not exactly going on the ledge, I bet majority fans hate it like I did and do, one of the prospects we gave up is a player.

I spelled out my loathe for that trade countless times before and since. So did others. Pointless to debate this further.

As it should. The sanction for a second PED offense is clear - one year suspension, nothing more and nothing less. Based on what we know, the Mets would have no justification to void Cano's contract, and I do not expect them to try.
