Mets continue to be a dirty team. Will Cohen clean up this mess or make it worse? Based on his business record, probably the latter.
:)
The Yankee thread, where baseball fans go to die, as it's currently on page 14, no wonder we're infected with them here, lol LGM

Stinky trade made by a stinky Agent, who was hired as a sideshow by cheap owners. The good news is that’s all in our past.

BVM is a mink oil salesman. He knew that this trade would gets Mets’ fans hopes up with a “win-now” philosophy. He also knew that it would keep him employed for a couple of years...which is exactly what it did. By the time it flopped, he’d be out of town with his bag of money. He probably didn’t expect Diaz to flop so badly, however.

I disagree- BVW didn't take this job for money...I would be willing to bet he took at least a 5x cut in pay. If not more

Though, he did do it as a win now. He got fleeced by needed to pick up almost all of Cano's money and giving our top prospect. It also seemed like a panic as someone in our system was not believing in McNeil.

Man...as things have changed around here for the Met's, I am so on edge for the hotstove to really begin. Cano and his money gone for the year really changes things up for the positive- well, let's hope for the positive. You know if it were still the Coupons they would have purchased a new yacht with that money.
Myself- one of my primary targets right now becomes DJL -not only one of the best hitters and clubhouse guys in baseball but also to weaken the Yankees.
And as much as I love JD Davis- he becomes a huge chip in a trade to an American league team.
Next- All out on Springer. Then Bauer and then we can get a Catcher. If we were able to land Springer and DJ, it makes it less important to have a top hitting Catcher. If needed, I go after the best defensive Catcher who can at least hit enough that he can play 120 games.
Now that we have some money to spend, we can actually makes moves to win now without mortgaging the farm system. We could actually do both at the same time. And with money, invest heavily in international as well. ALL the top teams have done that over the past 5-10 years.

Change in plans! Alderson announces that the Mets are no longer looking to hire a President of Baseball Operations. They're just going to hire a GM.

Come on down, Theo for the 2022 season !

If the Met's stick to just hiring a GM now, it should allow them to get the best and brightest. Or an already established guy who is looking to expand his role. It is refreshing to see Sandy as he really is and not playing puppet to the worst owners in baseball.
Something tells me we see the Met's become a model franchise within a couple of years. Yes, we have the money to buy players but while doing that, Sandy seems like he can also right the organization and get it figured out for us.

In the event that anyone cares, Tim Tebow will be back! Alderson did say "This is not a quest without end." I suspect it ends in September. But until then, keep chasing the dream!

Charlie Morton off the board. Braves doing early business again. Signed 1 year 15 million

The Morton signing bothers me as we were supposedly in the mix and lost out to the Braves. Cano's cash (all of it) could have been offered to lure him here for one year. We better get Bauer since the Braves just added two quality arms.

We added one in Stroman, so far. The market will expand when teams decline to offer arbitration on guys. I am not concerned.

Morton wanted to be close to FL - wasn't expecting a signing there. Didn't need him to go to the Braves however.

I would have liked Morton but I trust Sandy and Cohen. Hopefully this means they’re all in on Bauer at all costs as well as another complimentary starter like Tanaka or similar. I don’t want Odorizzi however.

What do you think if the Rays put Snell on the market? Super easy contract to take on but wonder who they would like back

The Mets were never in on Morton.

Chris Young dropped out of GM race.

Mets reportedly more interested in McCann over Realmuto and have been talking with Springer.

A few things I've heard about the McCann/Realmuto situation.
1) Realmuto has some concerns about playing in NY.
2) Realmuto is counting on the Mets to help drive up his market value.
3) As state above, the Mets may be playing a game to drive Realmuto value down by talking to McCann
4) McCann is a real option
5) By driving the price down, the Mets could still outbid all others without overpaying Realmuto.

Good. My goal has been Bauer, Springer, McCann.
I am ok with that but if we don't overpay Realmuto- that would still be my option 1. But would be very ok with McCann.
Even with Bauer, still need at least one more starter.

Yeah need 2 starters. Just listed the big names. I’m done with Matz, etc.
Let’s assume Cohen refuses to lose the Bauer competition, you are right, we still need another. A part of my would love to grab Tanaka from the Yankees.
If we do get Bauer, the good thing is we only need 3/4/5 type starters to fill the staff. DeGrom is a true Ace, Bauer, Ace/2, Stroman is a good 3, Noah when he gets back is hopefully himself and a solid 2, Peterson pitched like a 3/4
We would be able to take fliers on some guys for the backend of the rotation. Even a guy like Happ wouldn’t be bad.
or maybe instead of trading for Lindor we stick with pitching and try to get Snell from the Rays as he has a very easy contract
Some good RP out there too.

You may be done with Matz, but I'm guessing that the Mets are not. We'll know in less than 48 hours. That's the deadline for tender offers for the arbitration-eligibles. At that point the market will shake out, as everyone will know who's available and who's not. And then I think we'll start to see some movement.

Gonna be a boatload of decent players available in 2 days

Even if we tender Matz ,which we shouldn't ,we could then still cut him before the season and only owe 1/6 of the contract or something close to that.

Why the Matz hate? If you assume 2020 was an aberration, as I do, then we know what we have in him. A competent back of the rotation guy. In today's market, those guys go for $5M.

I think it is just a good time to just cut bait and for him to get a fresh start.
I would like to see it ending up a win win for both. He has always been a good Met, just never reached his potential

Helmsley Meulens out as bench coach. Looks like now that Rojas is confirmed as manager, he will be given the opportunity to choose at least some of his own coaches. As he should.

That's Hensley Meulens . Never heard of either one of them. Sorry, but reminded me of:

He's not as bad as he showed in 2020 but he still isn't very good. We could replace him with someone just as good and for cheaper. He let's up way too many HR's.
