Lugo has shown the potential to be a solid starter. The problem has always been the Mets. Is he a starter or a reliever? Give Lugo a task, and he will perfect it. When Lugo was a starter, he pitched well. When asked to go to the bullpen, once he got into a routine, he was great. Now, in the middle of a season, he was asked to switch gears and become a starter again. It's not easy to stretch your arm out on the go and be successful. Having a full off-season to work out as a starter should make a world of difference for Lugo. Based on his history, I see no reason to think he can't be as successful as the three former Yankees you've mentioned. I would not say those three are better options than Lugo, but I do agree anything is better than Matz. They should not be thought of as difference makers but may be able to get one of the guys in a favorable contract and should be able to hold down the fort at least a little before Noah is back. Each of the 3 have downside for sure but each of the 3 also have potential upside and none of them have been anywhere as horrible as Yankee fans make them out to be.
I think I just have considered them as I do not want to drop $25 mil per year in a long term contract with a real crap shoot named Bauer but we do need some help. MAtz is not the answer. Currently, we have deGrom/Stroman/Peterson/Lugo/Matz which equates to sure thing/solid 2 guy/hope he keeps it up in a full season/can he be successful as a starter/fvk me...The 3 mentioned above have to be better than our last two options
