I look at it this way, the usual suspects will have to pay way more than in the past with the Mets now lurking in the shadows of every major free agent. The Mets just the Dodgers out of the next player coming down the pike.
^^^^ Yeah....somewhere Mookie Betts is laughing his ass off at that one.

Let me see the Mets went from Wilpons 2.0 because of Robinhood and Cohen is broke to we are buying a Championship to missing out on top free agents to being disparate and over paying while buying a Championship to back to spending was just all talk. Let me see, did I cover everything the "invaders" were posting in the most active thread on these boards?

How many times can one person be wrong in one day? Do you often lament about the days when Big George would spend like a drunken sailor?

This- Met's actually tried to spend more than he is worth...

That being said- Not signing Springer, I am ok with but he was my number 1 guy.
Martin vs Realmuto- Now seeing that Realmuto got just over 20 per- I would have liked to go after him harder since we didn't go all out with guys like Springer
Bauer- I never wanted him for the money but would have liked him at a good rate. Think we dodged a bullet and hope Noah comes back strong as he and Carasco may prove to be better than Bauer over the next 3-5 years.
Lindor- via trade- Home the F-ing Run move of the off season...now sign him long term...

Get a defensive OF replacement and I am ready to start the season!
Don’t waste your breath on these goalpost movers.

Yeah, basically. The Yankee thread would have about 2 thousand more posts if the goalposts movers spent half the time there than they do here.

Mets swing and miss AGAIN on another top free agent.

Strike 1 = Springer
Strike 2 = Realmuto (Mets made $100m+ offer)
Strike 3 = TB played the Mets as suckers

But, losing out on TB is likely a blessing in disguise since he is a nut. So I am having an internal conflict on whether to make fun of or congratulate the Mets. LOL!

ESPN reporting that the deal is three years, $102M. First year $40M, second year $45M, with opt-outs after both years. So figure a guaranteed opt out after Year 2, unless he totally loses it due to injury or whatnot, in which case he'll steal $17M from the Dodgers in Year 3.

You know who may be the biggest winner in all this? Jacob deGrom. If he thought he was wealthy before...

I'd rather swing and miss than be saddled with that brilliant Stanton contract ,lmfao two of the 3 Amigos with nothing better than "liking" each other, too funny.

You're wrong on Strike 1. Once the Mets acquired Lindor and Carrasco, they noticeably cooled on Springer. Even Cohen has his limits.

Strike 3 is spot on. TB and his agent used the Mets to bid up the price. Mets look bad in the short term, but ultimately who cares? Mets needed to get two frontline starters this offseason. They did - Stroman and Carrasco. Anything else is gravy.

I kind of agree with Strike 2. If they had known they weren't getting Bauer, the Mets may have gone harder after Realmuto instead of "settling" for McCann (who isn't a bad "settle" by any means).

Year 1 - 40 million
Year 2 - 45 million
Year 3 - 17 million

wonder if he has opt out after year 2?

LMFAO, Typical De- - - -at, do you write for CNN/MSNBC? First we're trying the Buy a Championship every 12 years and counting, and now it was all talk, too funny. Well at least there's several teams out spending the Mets including the team filled with Mr. May players. 😁
Seriously man, leave the politics out of this.

Don’t forget LeMaheiu. Although I’m not sure if we offered.

He won’t even seem that nutty in LA and probably did the right thing for his personality. NY would have very low tolerance for him and his antics if he underperformed.

Plus I didn’t realize that a pitcher who had a hellified 2 months was in high demand.

Sometimes I am not sure if T2K is just full out trolling and throwing shit out there to get reactions or really just dumb...
1- Offered Springer $30 mil less than what he got. Made a great baseball decision
2- Talked to Realmuto early- realized he wanted a ton of money and he was not going to sign early. So- decided to move on for more than half the money for a player that fits our needs and well above average for a catcher- good move but like many- I would have liked Realmuto at the contract he ended up signing. But Met's made a business decision.
3 - You are 100% right but in this case- looks like "Sucker" wins- if number are right- that is stupid money for this nutjob 4. something lifetime era pitcher.

Mets offered 80 M for first 2 with 30 for third yr
Dodgers offered 85 M for first 2 with 18 for third yr.

too much money for him and he would have left anyway after year 2. Mets need to pay Lindor, Conforto, make a decision on Noah and will have to deal with an opt out for Jacob. If Bauer got that kind of money from the Mets, what in the world would they need to pay deGrom who is much better. Use the money saved to get Odorizzi , a RH hitting OF who can play center and a good Util INF.

I think the Mets have had a fantastic offseason. They stole Lindor and Carrasco from the Indians, got a great defensive catcher with a solid righty bat for their lineup at 1/4 of the price of JT, drove up the price for the Dodgers on the nut job, can still sign a guy like Jackie Bradley Jr. and still have money left to extend Conforto. If they can sign Lindor to an extension too, this will be a top notch offseason. Maybe they will even sign a guy like Paxton for the rotation.

Which pitcher would you rather have?
PITCHER A: 51-47, 3.76
PITCHER B: 75-64, 3.90

For the same salaries, Bauer - the latter just won a Cy Young, while the former sat out last year and didn't exactly blow me away in 2019.

Sandy/Cohen got played on this specific case...that was a bad look. All the other FA decisions made sense but Met's went all in these past couple of days and got played.

That said- I am ok with not spending that cash on this DB at all.
As an aside, I would like to see the Jets spend some money on a DB, but in an entirely different context.

In 2019:
Stroman 10-13, 3.22
Bauer 11-18, 4.48
Bauer with 5 seasons out of 7 with 4+ era 45 million lol

Stroman 2 season out of 6 with a 4+ era
Noah with 4 season out of 5 with 3.24 or less
Carrasco over his last 7 years only one year over 4
No need to discuss deGrom

Odorizzi 3 out of his 6 have been 4+ but much much cheaper

Rick Porcello was a Cy Young winner once upon a time... 🖐🏼

What is the Mets next move? I think a trade rather than a free agent signing. Sandy is clearly uncomfortable with Davis at 3B.

“Which pitcher would you rather have?” was the question - I added a qualifier. But I’d still take Bauer over the Stroman I saw pitch for us in 2019 at their ‘21 rates.
You would rather pay Bauer 40 mil over 18 for Stroman?????? Think about this- Carasco and Stroman and $10 mil left over...And one could easily argue Carasco over Bauer.
But let's say- Stroman goes 12-9 or something like that. Maybe a 3.90 era as a number 3...Bauer goes 15-7 with a 2.90 as a $40 mil guy...No way do I take Bauer for 40 over Stroman for 18. I think both are over paid but Stroman by 3-4 mil and Bauer by 20 mil

As a Yankee fan I agree. People love Brian Cashman. Stanton is a perfect example of what a buffoon he is!
If Stanton can have a healthy season- it may not be as bad as it looks now- Yankees gave up nothing and Stanton is just money at this point. He doesn't really hurt you guys all that much. Cashman also made miracles happen for a couple of years recently when your whole team has been injured.
