I hope you're right that he's a bust for Atlanta. I just can't agree that a low cost, low-to-no risk shot at a guy like this is somehow bewildering. So far two major league GMs of successfull teams disagree with you. Maybe 3 if you count the Mets themselves.
Using your low-cost, low-risk criterion, you can't possibly count the Mets.

Probably. The Mets made a "even internet fans wouldn't have made that trade" decision when they got Cano in the first place. The decision this year was a bit different, in that they had already committed to paying Cano back when Brody VanNumbNuts traded for him. It was a given--they were paying Cano. The only thing that could vary was his performance or whether he's even present on the roster. The Mets used their unique position of having the richest owner in the league to cut him loose after giving him a chance. But giving him a chance cost them no additional money, just like San Diego and the Braves (for the most part). So, in that sense, the Mets made decisions that were similar to the ones that those teams made.

But I take your point that in other ways it was in no way the same. San Diego and the Braves had a free roll at the craps table. VanPhonetoMyEar gave the Mets money away years ago.

Can we all calm down, the Mets have the 4th best record in all of baseball, and that's despite playing horrible for a month. Our pitching will be playoff worthy, and we will get there. NO ONE wants to face our pitching come October. There isn't a team in baseball that has 2 close out starters in their rotation. Don't kid yourselves haters{we know who you are} deGrom will be fresh, Max is, well Max come playoffs and Diaz is as solid a closer as any team has. The smoke and mirrors the Varsity pitching has been getting away with is showing it's warts, and soon that closer will show the same and Chapman will be the closer, lmfao. Clearly the teams to beat are the Braves{World Champs} Dodgers, Astros and then a distant 4th Yankees. All teams go through hitting slumps, but it'll be the best in October pitching and proven closer that will win the day. Mets have as good a shot as any of the 4 listed. LFGM!

3 lefties vs a lefty starter. And heavily left-handed bullpen. 😕 Beats me why every OF depth piece we have either on the big club or at AAA bats left-handed.
Very good point. Inciarte, Jankowski, Lee, Plummer, Palka, Blankenhorn...

It is a shame that Dom has proven not to be able to play OF...If we had to put his lefty bat in there- would prefer it over Janks. Hopefully, we only need 1 or 2

Dom is good as gone by the trade deadline. Anyway, if Buck put the same amount of faith in Dom as he does in Escobar, maybe Dom plays a little more relaxed and delivers.

As I see it our only chance in this series is if the guys who are playing (namely the top 6 in the order) perform considerably better than they have been of late.

There must not be as many Mets fans as there often are when we play in Atlanta. Usually I'd hear a very pronounced let's go Mets chant when the Mets threaten. Or perhaps they figured why bother with JD, Jankowski and Nido coming to the plate. I tried but couldn't get tickets as I relied on someone who didn't come thru. Hopefully when they return next month.

Escobar is from the school of launch angle. I've never watched a guy lift every pitch (contact) into the air regardless of the location of the ball.

Escobar is 2 for last 30 ish
Bloop that dropped over second
And a infield grounder no one could get to fast enough.

In fairness, Mr. Met is his batting coach.

Turn on hotel tv, pick some random channel that happens to be fs1, see Cano at plate, and perfect swing for a hit. Can’t make this stuff up if I tried.
