I know *zero* about computers, but I would think that it would be possible for the robot to look at a batter and figure out where the bottoms of his knees are and where is halfway between his waist and his shoulders. Or can the robot only look straight forward? BTW, I am not sure that I agree that balls-and-strikes umpiring is better, but that may just be because the box makes it more evident when an umpire is wrong.The problem with the electronic strike zone is the high strike. The width of the plate is fixed. Therefore, the robot umps are pretty much perfect at calling pitches on or off the corners. However, the top and bottom of the zone (particularly the top) can change from hitter to hitter. Haven't perfected that yet.
