Where’s a good place in East Bruns / New Bruns area to get a good Pork Roll, Egg & Cheese on a hard roll?

I’ve tried 3 Bagel stores and 1 deli that I’ll leave nameless… all were at best considered OK. The biggest issue was the hard roll. Either not fresh / day old used for sandwiches or soft / spongy like it was bought as a pack in a plastic bag at ShopRite. Need to start with a good fresh hard roll.

I grew up in EB and the deli pickings are slim. The best deli over the years has been Lox Stock and Deli, but being a Kosher place, I don't think they have pork roll! LOL. Try the Village Deli on Main (very close to the Spotswood border). I haven't been there personally, but my dad has mentioned it a few times and seems happy with it.

Drive down to Hamilton and find a local place that has Cases Pork Roll......Taylor ham is not Pork Roll!

Shoprite stores sell Cases Pork Roll near the eggs.

Havent been in a while, but this place was great. Once my buddy asked for a Ham sandwich. Guy behind the counter said, very nicely, “We don’t serve ham here son.” My buddy felt like a dummy - he‘s half Jewish!

White Rose in HP is without a doubt the place to go. Hole in the Wall in NB would be my #2.

Having bought my first house a few years ago, just up the street - I can say that Lox, Stock & Deli makes an ok sandwich but is extremely over priced (and good luck getting pork there). My go to bagel place (I'm more of a sausage guy than pork roll) is Bagel Express also on Ryders Lane - but they can certainly be hit or miss.

I'm sure White Rose makes an outstanding pork roll sandwich. I've been there plenty over the years, but only for burgers! Funny thing about Bagel Express and LS&D.....we are talking about East Brunswick, but both places are actually in Milltown.....being on the west side of Ryders. :)

Where can you get a good hard roll these days? I haven't had a good one in years.

They’ve gotten to be hard to find. I buy them at either my local bakery or butcher/deli and then make my own PR,E&C at home. Just the way I like it every time.

Hit the nail on the head. Can’t seem to get a good fresh hard roll around anymore. Didn’t realize it until I went out to Long Island about a month ago and stopped in a deli that was great.

Tops diner in East newark/Harrison is one of the best diners but you need to ask for Taylor ham they don’t list pork roll
If they don't list PORK ROLL on their menu, then they are not a true diner!

The Summit Diner - as “ Jersey diner” as you can get - serves Taylor Ham.

* I call it whatever it says on the menu.
The printer admitted to the diner owner they made a mistake on the menu, but the owner is such a cheap skate that he said to leave it. The owner in a interview with News 12 New Jersey admitted this. He said he knows it is Pork Roll and said he was sorry for what he did. HA, PORK ROLL it IS!

Just putting it out there… I’ve never heard any arguments about Chicken Roll. Haven’t had it in years but I’ve seen it sold in deli cold cuts. Seems to be a clear comparison…no Taylor Chicken or alt name is all I’m saying

How does Case's compare to Taylor? Honestly never heard of it before

Really? My wife likes case's and I like Taylor. Case's is a little too tangy for me.

Rolls? My daughter lives a block from Baglianis in Hammonton and she's not allowed to visit unless she brings an offering of fresh rolls. They last for a week and melt in mouth.
There's also an Italian store across the street from Flemington shop rite brought down daily from north jersey.

Can't beat the freshly made P,E,C at the Rock Deli off Rt. 287 on Rt. 38 off Bound Brook exit (Bridgewater). Morning stops for early games.

Mountain Ave deli in scotch plains. They put really good potatoes on it. Get the potatoes. It’s really good.

Another vote for White Rose in the NB area. While I get a cheeseburger 90% of the time, I'll get a porkrolleggandcheesewitsaltpepperandketchup the other 10% of the time - rolls are always fresh and well-prepared. If you're ever in Metuchen, the Bagel Pantry makes a great one, as does the Rock Deli in Bridgewater.

Another vote for White Rose. My buddy and I get pork roll, egg, and cheese sandwiches from there to bring to every tailgate.

Whenever I come back home and visit Jersey, which I do as often as possible, I’m always in search of the best pork roll egg and cheese sandwich that I can find. When I was up for the last State Penn hoops game I believe I may have found my favorite. Great little hole in the wall called the Milltown diner on Main Street. You just have to ask for extra pork roll and the sandwich on a Kaiser roll is really excellent as is their other food at very reasonable prices.

Did you try any of the diners?
Never ordered it in a diner only because I’m usually thinking of it for a quick to go like a deli or a bagel place. Although I remember my sister in law always ordered it at the Regent diner on Rt 9 in Howell. I don’t think that place exits anymore. I’ll give the Milltown diner a try next based on Newbrunfus’ reco. I’m also going to put White Rose, Bagel Nosh (on George St), Corner Cafe & Grill (Somerset), Summit Diner, Rock Deli (Bound Brook) and Bagel Fresh (North Bruns) as stops to follow.

I’m all for the Case’s Tangy

For Peter Genovese I make an exception to my “no links to the SL“ personal policy.
I can vouch for Gem’s Bagels in Port Monmouth and Slaters Deli in Leonardo, both on Rt 36 on the way to Sandy Hook. I like Gem’s version on the Everything bagel as shown in the photo.

Slaters pork roll sandwich is huge but I’m not fond of the taste of the meat. Too salty and of questionable quality imo.

Nick’s Market, directly across from Miracle Pub in Toms River, has excellent authentic hard rolls. Fresh every day.
