Update # 2: I said screw it and we made a reservation at the Borgata.

NOW - Whats' the best nearby steakhouse / restaurant for a nice date night dinner on Friday?

Bobby Flay?

Old HomeStead?

Vic & Anthony's?

anything else?

Knife and Fork looks interesting? is it worth it?

***************************

UPDATE:

1) scarlet nation roll call for the beer fest?

2) I am looking into the Chelsea and the Claridge hotels... any advice?

3) Also, and suggestions for weird / wacky / only-in-AC type things to do on Fri or Sat night? (we're only doing the afternoon session on Saturday)

THANKS

For those of you who spend a lot of time in Atlantic City, where's the best place for non-gambling heathens to spend the weekend so we can see the rock shows?

I would like to stay at a decently nice hotel, but it doesn't have to be crazy.

Re: OT: Atlantic City on Beer & Music fest weekend

Honestly only place to stay that are not completely shady are the casino hotels. Try Hotwiring. I will be there Friday night for the menzingers and taking back Sunday. Staying At Caesars

Re: OT: Atlantic City on Beer & Music fest weekend

The Chelsea is pretty nice (no casino). Obviously Borgia and Water Club are very nice. I've heard the Sheraton is nice too.

Re: OT: Atlantic City on Beer & Music fest weekend

Rooms are super expensive that weekend too. Thankfully Las Vegas was good to me and was able to comp at Caesars. While there check out the boneyard bar which usually has pretty cool bands playing. Right near the taj and they have pretty good bar food for a dive.

Re: OT: Atlantic City on Beer & Music fest weekend

Dive bars, with good music and good food is right up our alley…

And also awesome steak houses.

Re: OT: Atlantic City on Beer & Music fest weekend

I'd actually love a recommendation for a good date night restaurant for Friday night too.

Friday: fancy date night

Saturday: Rock and dive bars

Re: OT: Atlantic City on Beer & Music fest weekend

Had a great dinner at knife and fork recently. Also, second overnight at borgata

Re: OT: Atlantic City on Beer & Music fest weekend

If you want to be on the boardwalk I'm seeing rates just over $200 per night at Tropicana, Wyndham and Marriott. Taj Mahal is in the same price range but the property has gone severely downhill. Resorts is slightly higher and they've done a lot of renovations. You can save some money by staying at one of the chain motels in Absecon and driving about ten minutes in to AC.

There are many great choices for a date night dinner. What are you interested in: seafood, steakhouse, sushi, Italian, etc?

Re: OT: Atlantic City on Beer & Music fest weekend

Friday nite date nite take her to Roleplay, swingers club, fun for everyone

Re: OT: Atlantic City on Beer & Music fest weekend

Steakhouse: The steakhouses aren't know for romantic atmosphere but Robert's (at Taj Mahal) has great aged steaks and a very nice atmosphere. Bobby Flay's steakhouse at Borgata is also a favorite for my wife and me.

Italian: Cafe 2825! Everybody else is playing for second place. Best of the rest is Il Mulino at Taj Mahal.

I know in my first post I said that Taj has gotten run down, but the two restaurants I gave you are not operated by Taj and are near the boardwalk entrance

Sushi: Izakaya (at Borgata) for atmosphere and food quality. Buddakan at Caesars if you want Asian fusion but I don't think they have sushi.

The Chart House arguably has the best combination or romantic setting and great food, but it is mostly seafood.

Re: OT: Atlantic City on Beer & Music fest weekend

I will be down for the Saturday night Beerfest session. If you guys haven't bought your tickets yet for that, the New Jersey Craft beer blog had a discount code, http:// newjerseycraftbeer.com/ atlantic-city-beer-festival- 2015/ . I'm not sure if it is still active but you can try.

We're staying at the Borgata, but that's because I got a discounted room. Was checking general rates and every non-shady hotel in AC was between 200-400 for that Saturday night.

Highly recommended, but can be loud and a tight fit if you care about that sort of thing. I value food over everything else, and this place has an excellent selection. Also right next to Trop if you stay there.

Re: OT: Atlantic City on Beer & Music fest weekend

How about Gallagher's Steakhouse in Resorts?

As long as you don't pay thirty-seven fifty for a bottle of wine at Flay's...

just looked and the discount code CRAFT is good thru Jan 30.

what's the deal on this event? what does the ticket cover? just admission or food/bev samples? 1session or all three? (I really couldn't find much details on line)..thanks in advance

Re: OT: Atlantic City on Beer & Music fest weekend

I'd rather not stay a long cab ride away / on the mainland... but yeah the non-scary hotels are all expensive on this weekend.

Admission covers all the beer you can taste for one session. You basically walk around the convention floor and taste every beer and a band plays in the middle. This year the Saturday late session has Everclear, which is a pretty big name for this event. It's a good time.

Re: OT: Atlantic City on Beer & Music fest weekend

If you can get reservations Chef Vola's has great food.

The Sheraton is literally right across from the Convention Center and Train Station and it's a decent, perfectly nice modern hotel. It's also near the outlets if you or the wifey want to go shopping or whatever.

Re: OT: Atlantic City on Beer & Music fest weekend

The Sheraton sounds like a pretty good idea, especially because it's right there. How far is a cab ride from the Sheraton to the boardwalk, only just a few minutes, right? However, I think my girlfriend wants to stay in a little bit nicer of a place… So there you have it.

it harkens back to the boardwalk empire days..

Re: OT: Atlantic City on Beer & Music fest weekend

Borgota - OLD HOMSTEAD.

Thats the steakhouse for you. You will not regret it. Try the apps as well.

Re: OT: Atlantic City on Beer & Music fest weekend

Awesome thanks for the update with the discount code. Saved me almost 20 bucks on my two tickets.

Re: OT: Atlantic City on Beer & Music fest weekend

There is a good brewpub & restaurant on the ground floor of the Sheraton. They only serve their own beer, but the last time I was there the beers were good.

Agree on Old Homestead at Borgata - pricey but excellent.

Re: OT: Atlantic City on Beer & Music fest weekend

I have stayed at Courtyard about one long block from the boardwalk. Fairly new or recently renovated hotel with great view of the ocean. Sheraton is nice but a hike by foot to the boardwalk. Whitehouse subs is a short walk from the Sheraton. Across the street from the Sheraton is a discounted strip mall. The Italian restaurant at the other end of the block of the Whitehouse deli is good and not pricey. The Knife and Fork has great food but very pricey. It is cab drive if staying at either the Sheraton, Courtyard or boardwalk hotels.

Oh, I have some stories to tell about this place... all good and amusing, to say the least.

Re: OT: Atlantic City on Beer & Music fest weekend

There's a hotel next to thetropicana that is decent and usually less expensivethan the casino hotels. The Chelsea.

Re: OT: Atlantic City on Beer & Music fest weekend

Noodles of the World is an awesome spot in Borgata

Re: OT: Atlantic City on Beer & Music fest weekend

Angelo's Fairmount tavern (Italian)
Little Saigon (Vietnamese not sushi but the best)

This times a million. Wouldn't exactly call it a "dive" bar (at least in the Brunswick sense), but no trip to AC is complete for me without a stop at the Irish Pub. Actually just took my Girlfriend here for her first time this past weekend...
