OT: Very Cold Temperatures This Weekend

Will the flash freeze be as worse or much better than the one on Monday morning,Dec.28,1992?
That one hit just before the rush hour, completely stopping traffic on most,if not all, roads. Many people gave up going to work on that day.
That one sucked. Got stuck in that on Rt 21 in Belleville/Newark. Was working in downtown Newark at the time. Took me 3 hours to go 2 miles.

Damn. I spent 3 1/2 hours on a commuter bus headed to the Port Authority from Bergen County. The Turnpike actually had no ice because of hours of vehicles idling but the disaster had already happened.

I don't know, but I think it's worse to have one that happens during the day than before a.m. rush hour. When it's that early, people know to stay home. In this situation, many people are at work and have to drive to get home.

Back edge of precip in Western Jersey should be through central jersey by 3 and lingering on the coast til maybe 4

NWS:

“We are forecasting temperatures to remain at or below 32° across much of our area for at least 4 consecutive days (midday Friday to Tuesday). This has not happened in Philly since Jan 2018. Some other locations south of I-78 have not experienced this since 2015 or 2016.🥶 “

It was -19 here this morning with -49 wind chill.
E-gads now that's cold! We just got done prepping the farm for this cold blast. We do this on a small scale but it's like all hands on deck and battening down the hatches for the storm that's a brewing. My boy scouting lessons of always be prepared are being put to good use.

I'm not buying the flash freeze..maybe on a back staircase .. I'm in Rutherford and the rain/brief snow stopped at 2PM.. At 3pm the sidewalks in front of my house are drying quickly from the wind.

It’s up to 0 now with only a -22 wind chill. Everybody knew it was coming so there was a lot of time to prepare. There’s a few guys that have their cattle to where they can get into their shops with heat and out of the wind. Only issue with that is they have 1000 cows with calves and the shop is too small. Ha

Ton of flooding by me in Edgewater. Half the plaza is underwater. Right next to the gym I go to, and the Sojo Spa. Seem to be ok here in West New York.

Weehawken too. Ten minute walk from me 😯

23 in Hillsborough with everyones wipers now stuck to their windshield
We ran up to BW Commons this morning, but got home at 11:30am. The mall was PACKED by the time we left. I assume there are still tons of people out and about.

Wild weather day here in Atlantic City. This morning it reached 54 on my thermometer, and sunny. Then clouds rolled in, with wind and rain that looked like a hurricane. The temperature dropped to 30 (currently), and it's sunny again after a couple hours of flurries...

I usually like winter but this was maybe too sudden for me...

Had some blowing snow back around 2, right around the time I took the SS out to fill the tank and put it to bed for the winter hopefully.

Temperature around noon was 51°; we just came in from chopping up a bunch of wood, and it was 20° when we came in. Wind is a real bitch, we really felt it even while chopping wood.

Just drove home thru Bergen and the roads were in good shape. Lots of crews out salting. Temp dropped 5 degrees during 1/2 hour drive

Storm is a bust but it’s cold!!!!wind hasn’t been that bad but the costal flooding looks Ike’s bad from video above.

Wind fest out there now. My house is getting pelted by monkey balls from my neighbors tree. Worst tree ever. Also keep hearing my Christmas decorations swaying back and forth along the windows.
You can put your location in this site and it will show you the gusts

I remember this happening on Christmas Eve about 20 years ago. There was black ice all over 287 driving home from my parents Cars we’re going 5-10 MPH and still flying off the road into the woods. TAlk about white knuckle driving

Usually its unseasonably warm around Christmas.
This is the first year jn ages that it got into the teens (a subzero cold snap isn't unusual in Jan/Feb)
Once temps are under 20 weird things happen
Compressors on construction sites malfunction, car batteries die etc
Its like summer when heat gets around 100f and there will be broken down cars on the road.
I stay off the road if I can because even if my stuff is sorted other people can have the problems and bog you down
I think in the really harsh, cold weather the cars/trucks use different batteries - those rounded cell jobs

Cincy playiff about 40 years ago -15 wind chill -40.
Yes, but wasn’t that the AFC Championship game? Saints vs. Browns this weekend is a different story. Even the Jets game. Depressing…

I must be getting soft. Didn’t make it to RAC because of weather. Should have went as I rarely ever miss a home game. Rout made it easier to tolerate being home.

Just got back from an excursion to Hamburg PA. It was 7 degrees with a strong wind and snow squall. Car doors were a frozen shut trying to get out. Brrrrr. At least I was able to get my stubborn son to finally use a winter coat.
