Earl was just named a storm. Unlikely to become a hurricane (but will come close before landfall in MX) and likely only to affect Mexico, especially the Yucatan Peninsula. 5th named storm this year, which is ahead of most predictions at this point, although there's been little impact so far from any of the storms, except for the unusual one in January that hit the Azores.

Well, Earl is now forecast to become a Cat 1 hurricane (with winds of 85 mph or so) before landfall on the Yucatan very late tonight - and it may actually be a hurricane now, but the next update won't be out for another couple of hours.

Small storm hits land, 800 miles from the US.

I'm not one to criticize OT, but really? This seems like a borderline thread for a message board about the weather.

I get you but a lot of folks from Jersey do vacation in that part of MX.

Don't understand it either. I'm waiting for the thread that talks about a new storm on one of Jupiter's moons soon.

Each to their own, I guess. I'd much rather read about significant storms anywhere in the world than any more threads on PSU/Sandusky/JoePa/etc.
