It is a puzzlement.

Because no one cares about PITT football.

This would be pretty funny since Moorhead could have had a HC gig and stuck around but Canada will leave for a lateral move. In fairness, I would guess it would pay him a couple hundred more than what PITT would.

Pitt to LSU is not a lateral move. Penn St lost DC to Tennessee last year. Coaches move for a variety of reasons, but LSU OC is a top assistant coaching job.

I read in a Purdue article some really negative thing about your former Shoop's brother as OC at Purdue. Is he (the brother) bad news as an OC?

Probably double the salary

I don't think Canada would have ever been a real option for us, unless he really didn't like Pitt or something. How many sitting P5 coordinators can we expect to pry away. It's likely someone whose star has fallen a bit or someone from a fired staff or a someone from a lower level. A Dan Werner who was fired from Ole Miss or Matt Lubick from the fired Oregon staff would seem more realistic.

So say the Penn State fans who had to endure Pitt beating Penn State this year in both Football and Basketball.

It was particularly gratifying that the loss in football eliminated Penn State from contending for the National Championship this year (pay back for 1981).

I guess Penn State fans do care about Pitt because they keep talking about us.:D

LOL!!!!

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

Guess you guys don't miss Shoop either. Your defense looked "OK" this year.

How crazy is that? Shoop turns in one of the most uninspiring jobs in recent memory and we have a dude who comes out of nowhere and absolutely kills it with a bunch of inexperience no names. Oh yeah, we have two SRs on the entire defensive two deep.

Wouldn't change one single thing about this season. Luckily, we play again next season and I seriously doubt it will be a three point game. Let's see how many kids you have declare because that roster could get real ugly, real fast. One 4* DB from the WPIAL each year can only take you so far.

BTW, nothing compares to 1981. In that game, Penn State single handedly ruined PITT football and it has never been the same since.

Congrats on basketball. You all have nine national championships in that as well? Guess PSU will just have to stick with wrestling.

And they are paying Shoop $1,155,000. [roll]

They want offense down there and I'm sure they're willing to pay for it. Especially after seeing what Kiffen did at Bama.
Keep in mind that Bama scored 12 TD's on D or specials this season, inflating the scoring totals.
Scoring was down to 32 Off. points per game as compared to 41 Off. points pre-Kiffin.
I know some of their fans are elated that's he's gone.

That explains why they're always on our board too!!!

IMHO, the 2007 backyard brawl was the biggest backbreaker (try saying that 5x fast) of the modern era.

Without a Pitt upset....RichRod stays and wins it all that year, the Big East finally gets the respect it deserves and doesn't break up, the SEC's championship streak is nipped in the bud, no spread at Michigan, no Meyer at OSU, it just keeps going. Such a monumental game.

WVU has had some good seasons, but overall, it has been a wasted decade without national relevance.

Maybe in recent memory...I really don't know that much about that game or the impact...but that PITT game in 1981 was a microcosm of what PITT had been and what it was about to become. Amazing actually.

In the eyes of a PSU fan do people care less about Pitt football or Rutgers football?

That's a good question. Pretty weird actually. Let's face it, Rutgers has not been historically competitive with PSU but PITT has. That being said, there is some serious hatred of RU by a lot of PSU fans. Maybe it's the Philly/Jersey connection.

Nits can put down Pitt all they want on a Rutgers board.
Pitt fans can put down Penn St all they want on a Rutgers message board.
but for me this is the only thing that counts until the next time those programs meet:
Pitt powers past Penn State, 42-39 (September 10, 2016)

SI's Andy Staples reporting Canada has taken the LSU OC job with a 3yr deal at more than 1M/yr.

Show me the money.
Gets fired by North Carolina State and achieves great success at Pitt.
So is the nature of college football.

Now Rutgers and Pitt will be looking for new OC. Wonder who the new selections will be.

Will be interesting to see how Orgeron and Canada do at LSU. Seems like it should be a great success but you never know(ala Charlie Strong at Texas). I think Orgeron at his first stint at HC had a 10-25 record.

Pitt's former OC Chaney who went to Georgia helped Georgia attain a 7-5 record this year.
Todd Graham Pitt's former HC now at Arizona State was able to compile a 5-7 record this year.

I think Pitt will be competitive in salary for our new OC and I trust Narduzzi's judgement so we will see.

The NU board has a couple Baton Rouge guys on it and they said LSU is already a disaster. Orgeron is completely unorganized. Assistant coaches wanted to know who to keep recruiting before the dead period and Also if they were still employed to do so. Nobody received any answers. None of the staff including all the operations people don't know if they are still employed and/or what direction to take things. Ed had told everyone to sit tight and he would lay out a plan very soon. That was the day he got hired and he hasn't done much of anything yet. A lot of the recruits will be taking visits now after the dead period because they don't know where/how they stand. So far Ed has been a train wreck. Again.

Matt Canada is a rolling stone but he got the money.

Canada's 5th OC position since 2011:

Northern Illinois (1 year)
Wisconsin (1 year)
NC State (3 years-fired)
Pitt (1 year)
LSU (to be determined)

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

For all the knuckleheads who somehow thought this wasn't common practice when Ash did it:

Odd / intriguing - Orgeron may be a classic example of "Peter Principle" / get promoted to your level of incompetence ... ( but his incompetence is not in area of motivating/coaching the team during the season) - He seems to be like the outstanding field general who can manage his troops very well in the heat of battle - but then when he has to turn to all of the mundane grinding-through-the-issues, the logistics, the coordination of medium /long range planning - stuff that may seem to border on tedious to him - then things start to crumble. Orgeron probably needs a "minder" - a sort of "Chief of Staff" to run the entire operational side

Tons of business case studies have focused on issues like this - since the issue crops up in various functional areas - "Salesman of the Year" makes lousy sales manager - shocking! .... key R&D scientist - is lousy at heading up R&D ... surprise! ... Hall of Fame athlete makes lousy manager ...

There are many on here who have noticed it seems to be more from those who went there (or the ones who live here and are just fans) from NJ than those who matriculated (or just residents) from the Commonwealth.

That's why I'm not a fan of hiring guys like him. They're like the head cheerleader not the head coach. Just a bunch "let's gos" and "come ons" but not much in the department of x/o's on the field and I guess in this case even management off the field.

That being said, with 2 good coordinators like Canada and Aranda, I give him a better shot than he would have had at a less affluent P5 school.
