Camden - Manasquan

If the Squan coach, coached better the last call wouldn't have made a difference.
While that might be true, the fact that Squan was beating that team when they were huge underdogs shows the guy did a pretty good job. 4th quarter, probably should have done things differently.

But this thread is really about the bad call at the end of the game.

My impression is that this was a 'legacy call'; Camden is historically a stronger program than Manasquan, was probably seen as the 'favorite' and anything remotely close will skew towards that position (I think you see it a lot in wrestling as well).

The coaching failed people continue to overlook that. Refs are human there gonna make mistakes it sucks but that's life. This thread is just a bunch of fake outrage over something that's not gonna change. This is also a life lesson for a bunch grown men in here to REFS AREN'T PERFECT THEY MISS CALLS IF A GAME COMES DOWN TO THE FINAL SECONDS DONT CRY IF A REF MAKES A CALL OR MISSES A CALL NOT IN YOUR FAVOR THATS SPORTS

There is a failure to grasp this by some
Everybody knows its a bad call nobody can dispute that the issue is people can't let it go you can't go back and changed what happened its a highschool basketball game

Straight up robbery. Needs to be reversed.

This is a simple win or lose on that one shot. No reason not to reverse the winner/loser to reflect what ACTUALLY happened.

They accept students from non-sending district towns by paying tuition. So it's legal for outside students to come in. And if the family owns a home in district, even better. Tell your coaching community friends to stop crying and coach better!!
You must be new to NJ . Real estate is high here. If you can afford a second home in Manasquan , you can afford the tuition. You must be a fool to think otherwise!!
Trust the coaching community and posters on this board over a statement on the Manasquan website !! What a fool

So why not reverse a simple mistake when the true outcome of the game is abundantly and objectively clear?
Because you would be overturning games right and left. Refs are human beings they make bad calls. Every team would be crying and asking games for simple missed foul calls with under a minute left. The NBA puts out reports after games and they acknowledge the refs made or missed the right calls. But u don't see them overturning games it would create a circus. That's why pro sports have went to replay to get calls right other then that's it. I can't believe I have to even explain this.

I think you've made some fair points (execution/missed plays at different points of the game eventually catch up and it can be helped with better fundamentals) and honestly the NJSIAA has no precedent to 'overturn' a game like this so I don't think you can just invent one on the spot. That noted, in terms of the call and how it actually played out, if there was a Hall of Fame for horrendous calls, this is a first-ballot candidate. It's rare that the call is made correctly on the spot/in real time and then actually 'overturned' a minute later basically on the opinion of one official. I could see if it was initially called off and then upheld (even if it was incorrect); in this case it's almost like they went out of the way to get it wrong.

You don't know if that is true? What if the refs missed a step out of bounds, or a 10 second call earlier in the game? Do you want to review every call that can proved on replay?

It sucks but playing and coaching for years I expect refs to make mistakes. Was this absolutely terrible yes! To me no game comes down to 1 play u had 4 quarters to show u were the better team hands down. For 3 quarters Manasquan did that until there blockhead coach was trying to play the clock the whole entire quarter. That's another thing if people watch the game they would be less outraged. People overall are hard on refs like they aren't human they think all refs cheat. Once again they all miss calls so next your coaching playing or as parent don't cry in the final minute if a call is missed. It's easy to blame the refs when you do that it takes away accountability from you as a player or coach to have done better. If im the coach I feel just as bad as the refs because I put my team in that situation

You’re the one who continues to bring that up. Not I. If you hate Camden because of that, that’s your business.
No I don’t hate Camden. I don’t care one way or the other who won the game. Personally, I fall on the side of ‘bad call’ that should not be reversed.

I’m still on your ‘if the tables were turned and Camden lost in the same way then most people here would not have their panties in a bunch bitching that the wrong team won’, which to me smells of a racist view you are alleging people here have.

Not me. I don’t see anything fishy. Bad call at the worst time, same as our OSU non call last year.

Agree. That’s sports. Human element.
Something I just saw; Manasquan is now taking legal action to overturn the game:

Lawsuit

At first I thought this was a waste of time but the end of article brought up an interesting point- the NJSIAA does have a recent history of using video evidence to overturn game results 'after the fact' (I didn't realize this). That could potentially make things a bit more complicated; not sure if a judge is going to rule to overturn a HS basketball game per se but they might tell the NJSIAA that 'if you used video evidence before, you've now set the precedent and must use it here'. A key point though may be these previous examples were video being used regarding NJSIAA procedural infractions, not an official's call.

I have no dog in the fight, so I don't care who won. Nor do I really care how they got to that point in the game. Why this blew up to a national story is because of how egregious the call was. How 3 refs blew the call when just about the whole gym knew the shot was good. See, that's the story.

So go ahead and focus on the coaching. But I can guarantee if you had a kid playing for Manasquan you'd be pissed off beyond belief.

Wow, I didn't realize real estate was expensive in NJ. Thanks for sharing that.

If someone has a house in Manasquan and pays taxes, whether it's their 2nd home or not, any sane person isn't paying tuition to go to school there. You are the fool to think otherwise.

And why should a kid be denied a chance to go to school there? They can pay tuition or live there for that opportunity. Kids transfer and move around in the NCAA all of the time. Why not in high school?

Was it even egregious ? In real time we’re talking .3 seconds at most.

Last hoops game, Simpson had a shot blocked and replay showed obvious goaltending. But not egregious bc in real time it wasn’t obvious.

What if RU lost by just 1. Would we argue RU should be awarded the win? Obviously not. End of the game doesn’t matter more than the beginning

Everybody knows they missed the call lol but you guys refuse to believe that this happens quite often in sports. So if this happens often why cry and complain. Like I said before I wouldn't be pissed because I'm aware refs mess up. So if my child was On the team I would have same stance don't let the game come down to the final seconds then throw a tantrum when the call dosent go your way.

You’re welcome !

And I didn’t copy and post the tuition stuff you did! Unbelievable!! Manasquan is shady in sports ! Plum called them out on it based on info received and backed up by posters on this board .

Shady in sports? That sounds dumb Plum! Not only is Plum being dumb but Plum is naive too!!

The problem is not that a bad call was made in real time, & proved wrong. It is that the proper call was made in real time, then overruled without any video evidence.
It is completely moot to say that ‘game should not have come down to that’, the plays are the plays, & the basket was shown on video that it was in time.
Manasquan knows they won the game, regardless if it gets overturned or not.
If there is no replay, then the call made on the spot should stand, period

I encourage ya’ll to watch the video below and follow what happens after the shot goes in:

1) Trail ref at the three point line clearly signals the basket counts. The other two refs make no motions. NO REF WAIVES OFF THE BASKET OR SIGNALS IT DOES NOT COUNT. ONE REF CLEARLY SIGNALS THE BASKET COUNTS.

2) Turn your attention to the referee on the near sideline (bench side). He exits the court and and attempts to get to the locker room, followed by the other refs. He is then confronted by a Camden coach, grabbed and forced back onto the court. The refs are then confronted by Camden coaches (white shirt), Camden Athletic Supervisor (purple shirt). All of this is allowed by the NJSIAA Supervisor on site (gray sweatshirt). NJSIAA Supervisor then engages in the discussion with the refs.

3) The refs now change the call. When confronted by the Manasquan coach, the NJSIAA Supervisor then escorts the refs off the court. Which is what he should have done when Camdens coaches and administrator did the same.

Make your conclusions as you wish. At the least, members of Camden staff should be disciplined.

Manasquan is the furthest thing from shady in sports. Do they take out of district students? Absolutely. But no one will say they are shady in sports. And yes I am friendly with multiple coaches and AD’s in the shore conference and none would say shady. They all respect what a group2 can do.

Well Plum says they are shady and he's a legend in his own mind. So there's that.

Dude they are ! Read the room buddy

And they won the game !

Plum knows
Tell it to @kupuna133 . He seems to have the info to refute what you are saying!
