How crazy?

CV got here first and is working it's way across the country

Accelerated with the large protests the past few weeks

It worked it’s way in those parts a long time ago, but didn’t spread too bad because of the guidelines in place. Those sections of the country have been pretty lax about the rules over the last month, and it seems to be catching up with them. Has nothing to do with the protests. Any impact from the protests will probably start hitting in a few weeks.

Protests started two weeks ago

  • Hypertension, the most common coexisting condition, does not have a major impact on survival from the disease when adjusted for age and other comorbid conditions.
  • Commonly prescribed medications to treat high blood pressure including ACE-inhibitors and ARBs may potentially have a positive impact.
  • Hydroxychloroquine does not improve survival for patients hospitalized with COVID-19.
  • Another drug, tocilizumab, may improve survival among critically ill intensive care unit patients. If the results are confirmed through additional research, tocilizumab would become one of the first medications that can improve survival from COVID-19.

Foresight...has it been so long that you forget this temporary shutdown of the country was sold to us as a 2 week, maybe 3 weeks tops, event.
Most experts thought it would be a few months - my prediction on 3/19 was until late May, which wasn't far off.

Just looked at the messages. On March 19th you told me my business would likely be closed until around the end of May and schools would remain closed until then as well. Also told me 50/50 on RU opening in September and thus football happening.

We’ve exchanged numerous other messages as well. You’ve been correct on this almost every step of the way. Actually if you scroll to the first few pages of the huge thread I think most of the people arguing with you now weren’t exactly on the same page with you from the beginning.

I personally don’t think indoor restaurants will open for a while - at least at more than 25% + no bar seating - legislators will feel good with their new upcoming outdoor restaurant rules and will distract them from us through the summer :(.

"The real spread" ?? What is the difference between the real spread and the fake spread?

Exponential growth takes time.

Numbers responded to this already but #1 it was a joke for the “conservatives” who loveeee personal responsibility #2 not sure where you get your info but I knew it’d be much worse than a couple weeks based on the sources I followed (Dr. Chris Martensen primarily). I can’t prove that because the CE Board no longer exists, so feel free to not believe me if you like. I didn’t know this thread existed til a few weeks ago.

Great find. Better summary than most of the other articles on this, thanks. Unfortunately, our instant gratification, what have you done for me lately society has never been very good at long term investments aimed at preventing and/or responding to uncertain, catastrophic risks from being realized. See climate change and at least on that, the science is far less convincing about the horrific near term (5-10 years) risks than it is/was for a potential pandemic, which many virologists have been predicting since SARS/MERS, so in hindsight investing in pandemic prevention should have seemed like a far more worthwhile endeavor (although I think both are worth investing in - just drawing a comparison).

I don't trust the Chinese, but I'd rather keep working with them on efforts like finding and characterizing new coronavirus threats, like we were doing until last year, than to completely break with them and be in the dark on any such efforts. Unfortunately our leaders are too focused on "blame China" than they are on what to do about the pandemic, especially with the completely unsubstantiated claims that the virus was either made in or accidentally released in the Wuhan virology lab.

The risk of "losing" this thread to the CE board was why I tried to keep this thread on topic for so long. I'm annoyed about losing lots of great content from the CE board and would've been even more annoyed had this thread been sent there and then deleted with the board - now there's no chance of it being moved, but it also means we have an influx of posters who aren't always interested in science or solutions. I asked @DJ Spanky if there was a technology to save a whole thread and he didn't think there was. Would be great if there were. My "backup" is that about 90% of what I post in this thread also gets posted to my FB page and one other message board.

The President was selling it to the American public as a couple of weeks. Recall the whole "Easter" reopening fiasco? He got it wrong and deferred to the state governors, who extended it until mid-May. Then some governors started opening, and Murphy here tried to extend it to July 9.

I would expect massive amounts of deaths, but that hasn't happened. Looks like Sweden had it right all along. Their numbers are bottoming out. they went from 185 deaths on April 21 down to 3 deaths on June 8th.

The virus can take 2 weeks to incubate and longer to kill you. If the protests are going to cause spikes in Covid deaths, we won’t know for a few weeks.

The Sweden model is not that good. They didn’t come close to herd immunity, had more deaths than their neighbors, and their economy was hurt anyway. Their model would never work over here.

Their most recent number is 3 down from 185 and you deduct that herd immunity didn't work? Just curious, has your income been effected at all by the shutdown?

They also had 2 reported deaths on April 26th, and 77 deaths on June 5th.

You are right they are showing declines in their daily death totals, but that was cherry picking picking at it's finest.

If I was cherry picking, I wouldn't have mentioned their highest daily total which I did. Sounds like it not enough death for you and you want more.

Crazy that states like Texas, Florida, Georgia, NC, and Arizona all have more new daily cases than NJ and NY these days. Hope they don’t end up with the same amount of daily deaths.
NY , NJ and Eastern states have had more cases more deaths combined by a lot over the state's you are talking about. Complete idiot fear monger!
