Some quick observations as we wait for Binghamton and Cleveland State to wrap up:

-Rutgers was very aggressive in that match, which is great to see considering most of the lineup was freshmen/newcomers/backups. Many times, inexperienced wrestlers will not wrestle with that kind of pace.
-There is a good amount of depth on this roster, which is something Rutgers has not had a ton of in the past.
-As I mentioned earlier, there is a very visible Ashnault influence on this team. That is a great sign for Rutgers as Anthony Ashnault progresses into his coaching career.

Really liked Cettas pace. It is great to see him pushing for points. Sometimes it was hard to watch guys just waiting for something to happen when you want them to make something happen.

AA infuence with the tilts?
I felt sorry for NJCU heavyweight wrestler
He looked 50 pounds lighter and Esposito manhandled him

After playing a couple rounds of "take him down, let him up", Alvarez makes the score 8-3, then locks up a cradle on the edge of the mat. He is able to get two back points out of it before the period ends. Alvarez now leads 10-3, heading into the second period.

Was very curious to see how Alvarez looked at 133-lbs after last year's weight struggles. Alvarez was lightning fast, big, and full of energy. He is going to be DANGEROUS this year.

Sebastian Rivera takes a forfeit, making the team score 14-0 Rutgers.

Mike Van Brill takes the mat at 149-lbs to wrestle Marcus Robinson

Why even accept an invitation to a quad if you’re going to forfeit a bout? Get lost Cleveland St

Robinson very active on bottom, but MVB doing a great job of sticking with him. Robinson still on bottom after going out of bounds, as MVB holds 1:20 of RT with :50 left in the first period

Van Brill stays on top the entire period, holding a 2-0 lead. He built up 2:10 of RT.

He will start the second on bottom

Van Brill has not been very offensive here. I thought he made some huge improvements last year by being more aggressive on his feet - would like to see him get back to that. Period ends 3-0, Van Brill. MVB still holding 1:45 of RT.

Robinson chooses neutral

Robinson scores a takedown off a body lock, and then cuts Van Brill. MVB leads 4-2 as bloodtime is called. 1:24 left on the clock

Van Brill manages to hang on for the 5-2 victory, as Rutgers goes up 17-0 on the team score.

Rob Kanniard now wrestling at 157-lbs, as he takes on Daniel Patten

Patten pushes in and Kanniard hits a smooth firemans carry for an early takedown

Kanniard cuts Patten, and scores another takedown on a foot sweep. He now leads 4-1
