OT: Anyone been to the Jersey Shore yet

If you want big go to Wildwood from the boardwalk to the water seems like 3/4 of mile. I don't get the attraction of the beach in Wildwood. The town is great.
The beach down in Brig is so much different from Ortley Ave. Very flat and the waves suck. Took me many years to adjust when we left.

People having some fun times in Point Pleasant Beach tonight. Just saw this on Snapchat
Mayor not happy (as if it was a political gathering, the rules are different, or does that depend on the political cause?):

POINT PLEASANT BEACH — Police and sheriff's officers are dealing with a large crowd on the boardwalk, the borough's mayor said Tuesday night.
Mayor Paul Kanitra said police were dealing with the issue since people "were not social distancing."

There were no immediate reports of violence or arrests.

"We are trying to keep the situation from becoming unmanageable," Kanitra said.
It did not appear to be a political gathering, he said.

A Sheriff's Department drone was flying over the crowd, authorities said
The group showed up just hours after Gov. Phil Murphy lifted the stay-at-home executive order set up in March as the coronavirus started to rapidly spread in the state.

We Presbyterians and Methodists kids were afraid to ride our bikes near St Cath, we had heard all about the Nuns with the rulers !

Fun was to be stopped by tourists, before they were Bennies, asking for directions and send them the wrong way. We didn't have to go to confessions....
Considering Spring Lake was more than 75% Irish Catholic when I was growing up there back in the 70's, you and your non-Catholic friends were definitely in the minority if you were a protestant.

And yes, I was on the receiving end of Sister Rose and Sister Dorothy Ann's famous ruler punishments at St. Catherine's.

There is very little difference lately between Point (Jenkinsons, Point Pleasant doesn't run the beaches) and Seaside Heights beach crowds. They have pretty much the same crowds. The North end beaches in SSH are a hidden gem in Ocean County/ border Vision Beach and Ortley, and much nicer then any beach in Point.. just not much parking and some people are just turned away because its Seaside Heights. Always a lot of room and quiet. The South end beaches between Casino Pier (same owner as Jenkinsons) and Seaside Park is where all the city folks go and it can turn into a circus most days. There are days especially later in the summer were Seaside Heights is a beautiful place to visit but weekends are pretty rough. One thing about Seaside Heights they have the cleanest beaches out there. No town does a better job of raking and cleaning the beach 2x a day.

Why am I chuckling at the thought of Buggsy getting roughed up by the Nuns in grammar school, ha!

Or have plans. I go every year to Wildwood Crest. My concern is my elderly mother who always goes with us. I know I can leave her home and we wouldn't do anything until later in the season but this is tough.
Are you guys skipping shore trips this year because of the virus? Anyway thanks the information and best wishes.

My 10 year old nephew was planning on visiting State College, PA along with several classmates. Will they be safe? Have any young boys been seen in Happy Valley since 2012? Anyway, thanks for the information and best wishes.

J/k, LOL.

So you swam to school? Now that's unique.

Thompson Academy on Thompson's Island, boarding school for boys high school age. Kids from Boston locale, abused, alcohol/druggie parents. Mom was a housemother and Dad teacher/coach.

I wonder how many here know that your Dad coached in college and where he coached.

Just got back from a weekend at our place in Margate. No crowds and it felt more like mid week than a weekend. People generally did a great job with social distancing, both on the beach and around town. margate dairy bar was doing an especially good job managing their lines. Only place crowded was over at dog beach this morning. Police were actively managing the parking there.

Gorgeous afternoon in Manasquan today. High tide but the water was relatively warm. Beaches were very clean and it was warmer overall than I expected. Social distancing was no problem, neither was parking. Another great beach day.

Beached whale today in Spring Lake. Very large. Lifeguards apparently tried to save it. But they were unable.

Sad to see.

I wonder if it is the same whale seen last week off of Manasquan and Ocean Grove.

I'm thinking it's a pod going up and down the northern beaches looking for schools of small fish. Perhaps this whale chased them too close to shore and became stranded.

I'm told there actually were two very close to shore in Manasquan the day you're referring to.

Most whales beach as they are sick.

True but you do hear an occasional story about one chasing a school of fish and beaching themselves by accident. It seems like the whale sightings the past 2 weeks have been closer to shore than normal. It also seems to me it's earlier in the season. Most whales and dolphins I've seen from the beach have been in September and early October.

IMO, the water is nice and calm because its flatter compared to Seaside or the others up north. Plus that LONNNNG walk to the water makes it seem like you're on the sand away from the streets and those tram cars lol. Some days you just want to get away for a bit lol.

You can go to any of the South Jersey beaches from Sea Isle on down for shallow, calm water. The flip side it sucks for surfing and surf fishing down there.
