My take on the article is that the headline is intended to be eye-catching and is thus hyperbolic. The article itself merely presents some logistical issues with geographical conflicts between military and wind energy use.

But nothing discussed in the article appears like it would be difficult to resolve. And neither the military nor the wind energy stake-holders appear particularly worried that the conflicts cannot be resolved in due course.

To borrow from a popular CE phrase, it's a nothingburger.

And I'm pointing out that the article alludes to concerns from the USN and USAF regarding MOAs but doesn't cite specific concerns.

There's nothing tangible, here. Having worked with both services in managing the offshore NJ MOAs, specifically, during large exercises, the only possible concern is to marine navigation, i.e. the obstacles the windmills represent.

These are, of course, charted and known to all vessels. Navy captains are pretty good at avoiding fixed objects, I think. Pretty sure there are schools for that.

I think the article mentioned potentially having to alter a bombing training zone, or something along those lines. Unless it mentioned it in context of having to resolve issues w/offshore oil drilling in the past instead of wind turbines today.
 
I saw a few good segments on changing migratory patterns with whales over the weekend. Rising ocean temps and mild winter = whale food migrating closer to coastline, boats and fishing activity = whales migrating closer to coastline = injured whales

Didn’t realize right whales swim at only 6mph and often cruise at water surface. No wonder they are endangered.

Depends on the species of whale, of course. Sperm whales, whose diet consists primarily of squid, spend a lot of time diving to depths of 3000+ feet. The baleen whales (plankton feeders) absolutely hang out near the surface.

anyone with a boat or who frequents offshore knows this. when we dive or boat, we always verify and check to see if any sightings etc. sadly, most boaters don't nor care

True but TFG still wanted to drill there. Thankfully he'll never get the chance and his sycophants will have lots of time to chew on why but nonetheless...

As far as I know, Trump doesn't own an exploration company. He can talk about wanting to drill all he wants, but the exploration companies aren't going to spend Dime One drilling in a place where they know there's no oil.

The coastal waters off NJ have never been anything other than temperate/pelagic. At no time in the geological history of the planet were the conditions adequate for petroleum development.

Perhaps. But his cult minions would do anything he asks. If some oil company was a member and he asked them to in order to stick it to Murphy, they might try. And a few Indonesian vacations would get them the sign off from the courts they want.

I hope I'm wrong but you never know. I don't think people thought Jonestown would end how it did.

Never in 65 million years. Oil companies know there's no oil. If there was, they would have been exploratory drilling decades ago. This legislation is nothing other than a political stunt and as such is a complete waste of time. The NJ legislature should be spending their time on things that actually exist in the universe.

Politicians (Trump and NJ Dems and all the rest) habitually say misleading or outright false stuff that they either know and don't care is false, or else don't know and don't care. Usually for votes. It is, as you noted earlier, disappointing. But it's been happening forever and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I just wish a lot more people would put aside their partisan hats and learn to apply equal skepticism to everything politicians say regardless of party affiliation. Unfortunately, we seem to be steamrolling in the opposite direction these days. Thoughtlessly selective skepticism has become a way of life for what seems like ~80% of the electorate.

Which, to me, is even more disappointing than politicians talking crap all the time.

I'd rather them focus on the proposal to change the liquor licensing for sure. But I'm not mad about this, they know what this November will based on. We saw what worked last year in MI, PA and others.

Ban fishing nets!!!! Where are the protesters that were on the Pt. Pleasant Boardwalk? And all of the mayors. Maybe the Mayor of Pt. Beach will support the cause--oh wait, no, because they have long-standing commercial fishing industry. Maybe if they would just let the sonar and windmills kill all the whales, they could drag their nets unimpeded by those nuisances!
