Discussion thread for our upcoming heatwave which will be our longest and strongest of the year. Ive had two small heatwaves in my area, one last 3 days, the other 5 days but temps were marginal for a heatwave mainly in the low 90s

Yesterday many locations broke 90 degrees and it should stay 90 or above at least through Wednesday of next week. Friday should see highs a few degrees hotter than yesterday approaching the mid 90s. Looks like Saturday and Monday have the potential to be the hottest days with highs in the mid to upper 90s while Sunday may see temps and dewpoints slightly less.

Ive always liked the heat myself. I know others cant stand it but there is something about a long stretch of hot weather that is mandatory for a summer.

Drink plenty of water!

It's July. It is supposed to be hot and humid. Unless it turns into a Twilight Zone episode where we drift closer to the sun then I will go to Asbury Park tomorrow for cool air and cool jazz and blues. I will take this over January..Enjoy..

I'm cooking 110 chickens tomorrow for our swim club BBQ. Standing over that bbq pit is brutal when it gets this hot. Great fun too, though.

Is this considered hot? After living in Phoenix and Houston for 10 years, this is only a slightly hot and humid period.

For the individuals planning to move to Florida, South Carolina or down South, something to consider. I hear it's going to get even warmer in the summer in the next couple of years.

I used to love to play baseball in this weather. My daughter's 18u club team is the same way. Many tournaments they kick butt in the 4th game on Sunday against teams that are wilting and ready to go home.

I have to work at Met Life Stadium This weekend for Guns and Roses, Standing on your feet for 8 hours in that heat takes a toll on you.

Hitting me a bit in the electric bill (we keep the house at 68-70), but at least we're getting a lot of use out of our pool.

At this point, the only time I'm leaving air conditioning is walking to and from the car, and when we go out to the pool.

I really don't mind the heat until my beddy bye time, then it can't be cool/cold enough. With that said, I think 68-70 is a winter setting, not summer. That's low. It must never turn off at that temp.

do you golf in this weather? I don't mind golfing in extreme heat, even without a cart.
I start to question it when we get over 95. I'll start but if I'm playing like crap I could be talked into only 9 holes - especially when we're like 98 degrees and very humid.

Good lord..68-70..thats insane

We're set to 70, down to 68 at night (when the house is empty while we're both at work, it goes higher, but those are the temps for when we're home). In the winter, we go down to 68 during the day and 65 at night.

During the summer, we pretty much limit our outside activity to before 11am and after 5pm - though we have a pool now, so that has gotten us out a bit more.

Between the AC and the pool filter, the electric bill was about triple in June what it was in April. Solar may very well be in our near future.

What is the chance of snow during the heat wave?

Perhaps we should ask this guy:

Are any of you old enough to be a kid growing up without air-conditioning? All we had was an attic fan. Somehow we survived.

Had one window unit for the house growing up. Generally didn't develop an aversion to hot weather until college, I don't think, since I remember playing basketball outside in high school with friends in 100+ weather during heat advisories. Even now, I can acclimate to it without too much trouble, I really just don't prefer it - especially to sleep.

My wife spent her first 4-5 years in Arizona before moving back to an apartment in Queens with one window unit, and used to work as a lifeguard during summers. Sometime after college she started to physically react to extended periods in the sun and heat, with nausea, dizziness and severe headaches. In direct sun over a certain temp, she generally starts feeling like crap in under an hour.

Needless to say, we're not beach people at this point. Thankfully, we share the same ideal temp range of about 50-75, or so - though my tolerance is better for higher and lower temps.

played TPC on Monday & Hamilton Farm yesterday......Monday was brutal....yesterday was more manageable (not by much), but we are skipping our typical saturday round at Rutgers due to the weather....

Most of you guys who say I don't mind the heat probably work in an office or not at all. You go from your house to your air conditioned car to an air conditioned office and then the reverse on the way home. It's brutal out there. My company was setting catch basin's for the county the last few days and my guys were ready to keel over, same with me. Try doing physical activity outside for 8 hrs then comeback and tell me if you still love the heat.

I don't know how you do it. I give you tons of credit. I'm in an unconditioned warehouse, but that still doesnt compare.. try to stay cool

I've got a noonish Tee time at Mercer Oaks Sunday. Supposed to be 93 degrees. We shall see... I intend to keep well hydrated with beer. ; )

I lived almost to age 15 in a totally un-air conditioned house. This was in Queens, and my parents thought it wasn't hot often enough to justify even window units. We lived in a house with forced air heat, and it was a ranch house, so it wouldn't have been difficult to put in central. But my mother in particular didn't want to do it. What happened at age !5? We moved to Orlando, Florida, where AC was widespread.

P.S. As I grow older, my heat tolerance seems to decrease and I'm in a two-story house where the summer temperatures are much warmer upstairs than downstairs. So the thermostat seems to be lower every year.

I didn't think it was that bad outside today. But then again I just came back from a week of 90 degree temperature in Aruba yesterday.
