OT: Heatwave upon us: Heat Misers post here

Tonight should be cooler in the upper 60's and lower humidity ...A/C goes off and windows open overnight .

Lucky you. In Jersey City the forecast for tonight is "clear and warm, low of 77." The temp won't get below 90 until 9pm. The AC will stay on.

Insensitive OP.

About the same temps here. Had one 20-minute storm and the lightning started 3 forest fires. Guess the heat lovers enjoy the destruction of our public lands and private property. Shameful.

Its so hot in Mount Olive a dog was chasing a cat and they were both walking.

Really ?
The Weather Channel just showed Somerville, NJ is going down to a low of 69 degrees tonight .
I guess Jersey City is a hot spot.

At a baseball tournament in Hershey. 2 games today at noon and 2pm and the 11 year olds handled it well. Heat index over 100. Got back to motor home and there is a brown out in the park we're at. No AC until just a few minutes ago. Haven't sweat this much in a while. Grilling was the worst.

Urban Heat Island in effect! Current temperatures at 10:45 PM:

Morristown 72
Somerville 78

Jersey City 89
Jamaica NY 89

I see you!!!!! We are here for Zak Brown Band. That power outage worried me for a bit.

Back in the pre A/C days ,you slept with the windows open and an electric fan playing back and forth upon you.Life went on.

Good lord..68-70..thats insane
Everyone is different, but I also hate visiting people's houses and stores that keep it that cold inside during the hot summer. I'll be doing something outside, and then hate feeling that 20+ degree temperature drop. I never turn on the AC until it goes over 90 and then keep it at 75

129 F in Kuwait and Iraq today. These are the highest confirmed temperatures ever recorded. There have been many reported temperatures above that, but not confirmed.

Close call yesterday. We had a party with about 25-30 people and I kept vacillating on whether or not to have my DJ speakers outside or inside, since we knew it was going to be hot, but wasn't quite sure if the lower humidity would make it tolerable outside on our deck. The other factor in favor of outside was that our deck is fully in shade after about 3 pm and we were starting at 4 pm. And I had bought a misting fan and thought that might help.

So, I took the risk and set up the speakers outside (still had the music on inside with my very nice hi-fi speakers, in case people ended up coming in from the heat). The alternative would've been to set the DJ speakers up inside, like I do for our NY Eve party and have it be largely an indoor party (with just a Bose boombox outside).

It's summer and I really wanted an outdoor party and it turned out to be just on the tolerable side of hot and most of the crew didn't mind being outside, with a few taking indoor breaks. And since a big part of the party was the music, where I set up was a key issue. We call it the "5-Song" party, where people all send me 5 songs and I put them into a playlist - kind of fun trying to guess who picked what songs - people really seem to like this theme party.

Was definitely more comfortable yesterday than on Friday, which was brutal. And today's weekly soccer match was pretty damn hot - it was already up to 86F when we finished around 10 am. I dont love the heat, but I also don't really let it stop me from doing things - used to always play golf in the heat (don't play much now, but not because of the heat).

Las Vegas in June had several weeks at 110-115 and now is at a reasonable 105. I remember living in Phoenix and at midnight it was 100 degree. The air conditioner always ran day and night. IT broke when I was moving out.

98 at our pool banquet last night until a t-storm with hail dropped the temp to 72 and ruined the pig roast.

AC goes on sometime in April and goes off sometime in October. Unless it's one of those warm days/cool nights - then the AC is on during the day and the heat is on at night. That's my wife - temp is always about 71-72F during the summer and 69-70F during the winter. If it were up to me, I'd leave all the windows open and only put the AC on when it got pretty warm - haven't slept with windows open in years, lol.

I hear that June was the hottest month ever in the world and I assume July will even be hotter. NO such thing as Global Warming.

Speaking of ac , anyone here still have window units ? I have central ac . But kinda miss the whole old school feel of window units sometimes.

We didn't have AC (or color TV) until my senior year in high school, 1973. We were the last ones in my neighborhood for sure. On a semi related matter, anyone who recognized in the '50s the economic impact of AC and acted on it would have made a huge fortune. Land in Arizona, Florida, and other hot climates became significantly more valuable with the emergence of AC.

Day 4 of the heatwave..

Thursday: 91
Friday: 96
Saturday: 96
Sunday: 95

tomorrow probably will be the most uncomfortable day of the heatwave due to very high humidity levels however whether we see extreme temps in the upper 90s depends on how much cloud debris and thunderstorm activity which could hit in the morning and then again later in the afternoon

looks the heatwave should run until at least Wednesday

Meh, it's the summer and it gets hot from time to time.

I still do, in my Manhattan studio. It gets turned on during the summer whenever I get home from work or traveling. Cools the room nicely within 10 minutes, always works when plugged in, and easy on the electric bill. It's a tad louder, but I can generally sleep through it fine, at least until some moron passing by in a heavy truck blows their horn lol.

Meanwhile, my girlfriends space-age climate control A/C has stopped working 3 times in the past two months..

currently 95 which is the high for the day but heat indexes are over 100

watch for some nasty storms out there between 5-7 PM throughout the state which could bring damaging winds, heavy rain and hail

thanks for the warning. I was going to drive home from my fiancée in Flemington to Cherry Hill about that time, but think I will hold off until the morning.

Not sure your assumption about July is correct, won't July in the wintery southern hemisphere balance out July in the summery northern hemisphere?

I start to question it when we get over 95. I'll start but if I'm playing like crap I could be talked into only 9 holes - especially when we're like 98 degrees and very humid.

Just to follow-up - I did play 18 Sunday. Mercer East 12:10 Tee time shot a 43. Really didn't seem all that hot to me until 2:30 ish. Was done by 3:18.

Two Questions.

1. Has not the planet been warming and cooling since it's creation? We've had different atmospheres, ice ages, warmer periods. Why is this warming so alarming to you?

2. What is the correct temperature for the Earth?

So, you broke the record low 18-hole round of 59 by 16 strokes and did it in 3:08? You missed your calling or you made a typo, lol...
