I want Realmuto!!! If JT isn't available, how about McCann? He won't tie you down with the years JT wants.
Wish we had a better defense in general or I would actually suggest Sanchez. lol And serious. But no way he could catch deGrom with the way his ball moves at 98 mph and forget about catching Diaz

If we miss on Realmuto and McCann, a case could be made that the next best available free agent is none other than Wilson Ramos.

Just an observation. Not a recommendation!

My opinion is that de Blasio has the right (and I might add, the DUTY) to use whatever leverage he has for the benefit of NYC. My guess is that Cohen will write a nice big fat check to support NYC parks, youth programs, etc., and he will get his approval.

Hes nothing but a scumbag f**k who wants ARod as the owner. And if what his reasoning for this buchittery was the case, he wouldve forced the Steinbrenner to sell the Yankees because of George's felony in the 1970s. Or force Dolan to sell the Knicks and Rangers thanks to Isaiah Thomas' incidents.

I remember the good ole days when that was called extortion
Nah, not really. If X wants to make a deal with Y, and Z has the contractual right to block it, well then X and Y are going to have to compensate Z to give up that right. Otherwise, it's see you in court - which neither X nor Y want.

That's not extortion. It is the transaction of business.

If I'm de Blasio, and I'm holding this contract which provides this valuable right, I'm sure as fvck not going to GIVE it away. Nor would you. But maybe he will. We'll see soon enough.

NYC did not have any legal or contractual authority, as far as I know, to take any action in the instances you cite. It does here. Or at least it believes it does.

Keith Law of the The Athletic (paywall) posted an article listing his Top 40 free agents. Springer, Realmuto, and Bauer were top 3. Most Met fans would be happy with any one of them. All positions of need.

Stroman was #4. Mets have until Monday to make him a qualifying offer. I believe they will, barring ownership complications.

Surprisingly, McCann was not listed. The only catcher listed other than Realmuto was none other than Robinson Chirinos at #34.

That list was expand once the non-tenders, of which there will be many, become official.

Would love Springer, Bauer, or Realmuto. Stroman is a cancer.

I'm not sure about a cancer, but you could wonder whether he just quit on us. And, if he didn't, and his concern about Covid is valid and real, will he even play for a team next year. It just seems messy.

No I agree with you that this whole thing is assinine. But I'm assuming that since both were built in the same year that the city may have slipped that clause for Yankee Stadium as well. If true and if hes successful with vs Mets (even with no "guilty" legal past in Cohen's past , he may be prick enough to do this to the Yankees because of Steinbrenner's felony. And the same could be said when Dolan (with the actions of his buddy Isaiah) goes for MSG V (or IV??? Idk anymore).

So does this mean DeBlasio will stop his crap or will he keep it going until he gets what he wants?

I am certain that a mutually-agreeable accommodation between de Blasio and Cohen will be reached, if it hasn't already. We'll probably never know what it is though.

I am watching SNY now and they are discussing this as though it is a done deal. No mention of de Blasio at all.

EDIT: SNY has just reported that de Blasio has announced that NYC has completed its legal review and that they have no objection to the transaction! I continue to believe that there is a quid pro quo in the background. But we don't need to know how the sausage is made.

2nd edit: Cohen announces a $17.5M donation to NYC small business job creation program. Funny how things work out.

Per Andy Martino on SNY:
  1. Now that all obstacles are removed, the sale will close in "a couple of days".
  2. Cohen and Alderson will then have a media day.
  3. Then Alderson immediately gets to work. Per Martino, expect organizational changes to be announced as early as next week.

I predict a Monday AM close, followed by a presser, followed by Alderson gets to work.

IMO the beginning of free agency is not nearly as big a deal as it used to be. Not long ago, teams would be camped outside an agent's office to be ready when he opened the door at 12:01 AM. It doesn't work like that any more. I am sure that the Big Three free agents will be quite willing to wait for the Mets to be in a position to make their pitch.

Big NO to Ramos.

With Big Steve in charge no more shopping in the discount aisle.

Congratulations, guys. You deserve quality ownership committed to winning. This is great for baseball in New York. Here's hoping we see a few more Subway Series in the future.

Would love Springer, Bauer, or Realmuto. Stroman is a cancer.

Or? Ten bucks says "Uncle Steve" makes a run at all three. The timing of this deal couldn't be more perfect. Tons of guys are going to be non-tendered. Kluber, Charlie Morton and Ryan Braun already have been. There won't be many buyers this hot stove season, just a lot of tire kickers waiting for prices to drop. The Mets could make a few signings that in 3 years look like bargains.
