OT: New York Mets 2020 season

I'm good with him opting out for Covid. He should have had the decency to give someone a heads up before the game so people would know he's OK. Based on his performance thus far, not a loss and it reduces the log jam at the DH.

He's not really opting out because of CV

Funny, in the preseason game against the Yanks, he did not run out a grounder hard at all, it was a close play too.

If he's been smart, he is set financially for life. His heart is no longer into the game.

Not that it matters at this point, but the Mets trainers had told him not to push it beyond 80%.

Mets respond to the loss of Cespedes by bringing up Ali Sanchez, another good defense, light hitting catcher. We seem to have them in abundance. Take that Yankee fans! Our Sanchez is better than your Sanchez.

Tonight's Cespedes-free lineup against the tough righty Soroka:

Nimmo CF
McNeil LF (We may be seeing more of this!)
Alonso 1B
Conforto RF
Cano 2B
Ramos C
Smith DH
Gimenez 3B (And this!)
Rosario SS
------------------------------
deGrom P

DeGrom pitches well always, and wins sometimes. Tonight is one of those times. LGM!

Hate not having Davis in the lineup- even more so when deGrom is pitching. Need the runs more than defense. Davis is the guy I want at bat outside of McNeil.

Hope its the beginning of the comeback.

Eventually, Gimenez won't hit and he won't be so cute anymore. I'd like to see McNeil moved back to second, JD back to third, Smith to left, and Cano at DH.

Exactly. Davis needs to be in the lineup every day. And much rather Smith in the lineup every day too if possible.
If for nothing else, great trade pieces down the road. But Davis looks like a consistent .290-.310 with 25+ HR guy.

That has the makings of a godawful defensive team. But as they say, you go to war with the army you have...

Can't do much about that now so we have to try to win with these guys. But if we can get D Smith enough AB's and he hits, he is also a very good fielding 1B...he may be a great chip in a trade.
Any good hitters/excellent fielders coming up as FA's next year?

Brandon Nimmo Heard Different Version of Events Between Yoenis Cespedes and Mets

So, what the heck happened between the Met and Yoenis Cespedes? Well, it depends who you ask.

There’s general manager Brodie Van Wagenen’s story that the Mets were scrambling to locate the veteran slugger and confirm he was OK, then there’s what Brandon Nimmo and some players were hearing around the clubhouse.

All Met lineups have the makings of a godawful defensive team. BVW-IQ wasn't aware of defense when he signed and traded for all these bad defenders and DHs. But this lineup puts McNeil back where he played in the minors (he's been doing some suspect things at third this year), JD too, Smith where he has been OK or at least better than JD, and Cano where he has less chance of getting injured. What a mess.

So far all RBI hits were hit to the opposite field or up the middle. Finally

Inning after he got the single and went to third on the error. Guessing legging it out he got hurt

Nice swings , good hitting , followed by horrific baserunning !
Just can’t get in all going at once

Braves ace gone
Division wide open even after 3-7
