OT: Official 2024 NY Mets Season Thread

So you're not obsessed with this late spring training move that wasn't a trade? 👀 Sort of like a poor man's trade deadline no? 😎
Not obsessed. But I like it. And it comes without surrendering a draft pick because the Dodgers didn’t extend a qualifying offer. Stearns more and more (at least to me) is showing that he knows how to build a system and a team.

I agree 100%. For the record, I've always looked to the trade deadline with hope of improving the team for a September run. Obsessed to me is a poor description. The Farm system and establishing the home grown players is always the best way to build. Key pieces to have for years, others for trade bait, yes at the deadline. Even teams with the best farm systems, usually never bring up more than 2 players that'll have a major impact in the current season or for multiple seasons. Unless it's a true rebuild, that is the best you can hope a farm system can provide. Maybe another one or two that provide depth at weak positions. Ideally for me, a mix of 5 of the everyday position players be homegrown with several in the backup rolls and a pitching staff of at least 10 of the 15 being homegrown. A top of the rotation and closer most likely will come from outside the organization most times.

Too much to ask for Montgomery now?

Mets DFA Bickford and option Fujinami.

The battle for the last two bullpen spots is down to Yohan Ramirez, Sean Reid-Foley, and Michael Tonkin. One must go.

Mets have advised both Voit and Choi that they will not make the opening day roster. Both have opt-outs from their minor league contracts, so we'll see.

Mets now down to 31 players in camp. Senga and Kranick will open on the IL. and Martinez in the minors. So that leaves 28. Two cuts to go. One will be a reliever as mentioned in my prior post. The other will be either Stewart or Short.

Lastly, for those who keep track of such things, Mendoza has given his #28 to Martinez. A selfless act of servant-leadership. Mendoza will wear 64.

So listening to WFAN this morning, a lady was talking about all the traffic and parking issues at the Belmont Raceway Project and how season ticket holders for the Islanders are losing choice parking and higher season ticket prices and have nowhere near the easy access and inner facility grounds transportation they were promised. With that said, it got me wondering where the $8 billion project Steve Cohen proposed to the state and city sits? The construction jobs, then permanent jobs and tax revenue should make it a slam dunk. WTF is taking it so long to approve? It would become a one stop destination, self contained, hopefully devoid of crime a way to supplement those years the Mets suck{place remarks here, lol} and attendance is down. https://www.6sqft.com/mets-owner-re...sal-for-8b-casino-complex-next-to-citi-field/

Metsmerized Online is reporting that Mark Vientos has been optioned to Syracuse. Zack Short, previously considered a longshot, has made the team, at least for now.

Reportedly Stewart is going north, but is still on the bubble as he has options. Stearns will be checking the waiver wire over the next few days as he decides who gets the last seat on the bench.

Mets traded reliever Austin Adams to the As for cash considerations.

Which raises another question: with Vientos down, who's the backup 1B? Or is the plan to have Alonso play 162?

Zach Short or Sean Reid Foley. 😢

DJ Stewart?
Stewart played 16 games at 1B for Syracuse last year, so yeah probably him - IF he's on the team.

As far as MLB experience... Narvaez has five innings and McNeil has one. I think that's it.

Pete started 144 games at 1B last year (plus 9 at DH). Somebody else started 18 games at 1B. At present, we don't have a somebody else.
There are usually enough off days at the beginning of each season that, at the start, this won't be an issue. Then it will sort itself out.

You Mets fans are too dark and negative for the first week of the season. I want to see some unbridled optimism out of you this week! 😃
it's funny- same plyers but different lineup can make it look much better
Move McNeil to 2nd and Lindor/Pete at 3/4

And it takes a much better look

I know that we will have a certain poster jumping on here how I am trolling his team but it is pretty interesting that if you take both lineups and average out what they did last year Yankees/Mets- both offenses are almost exactly the same.

The Sunday NY Times has predicted the Mets to finish fourth in the NL East...once again not making the playoffs.
