My guess is there were two strong factors: 1) The way he left Rutgers in the lurch when he bolted for Tampa Bay, and 2) They didn't want to pay him. He wasn't going to take less than he was making when he left, was he? And wasn't that something like $2.5 million per? Just not worth it for someone who, if we're being honest, kind of plateaued after 2006 or so.Would be fascinated to know why RU wouldn't have welcomed Schiano back with open arms.
What he did in the first five or six years was positively Herculean, and maybe that's his forte, building up programs from nothing. But that wasn't where Rutgers was this last time around (as bad as Flood was).
