OT: 2019-20 NY Mets Offseason "Hot Stove" Thread

Oh man... we have the normal Met haters trolling and others buying in to them.

With that said, Beltran has now put the Mets in a bad situation. Hiring him is not a problem but what we do from this point forward is..,
It will be interesting to see what happens...

What will happen is nothing. Why has he put the Mets in a bad situation? He'll make some sort of public apology, and that will be that.

Bad situation because he was hired partly because of the reputation he earned with the Astros. Now we know that he was no expert with the Astros, but a cheater, will he be a good manager or a dud?

I apologize for developing, leading, and executing along with Alex Cora the biggest on-field cheating scam in the history of MLB. But hey, our new owner is a massive investment crook and Showtime created a show about him, so I guess cheating is okay. NY press, any follow-up questions?

:)

Lifetime Mets fan here. Team should cut bait with Beltrán. Doesn’t look good. Kinda like Cashman signing a team full of juicers, winning championships and pretending he had no clue. Behavior like that damages the brand and is a slap in the face of baseball from an integrity standpoint.

However I’m old school. MLB lives with cashman’s partner in crime as their Chief Baseball Officer. Integrity in the game is gone forever.

Why is it the Mets responsibility to impose discipline here? They had nothing to do with anything. It's MLB's responsibility and they chose not to.

If you knew everything you know now about Beltran, would you still hire him? What are the Coupons paying him? $1MM per?

Per Logan Morrison, it was well known that the Yankees and Dodgers did the same thing as the Astros and Red Sox.

But then again the Yankees are a classless organization who keeps players that have exhibited despicable behavior towards women a la Chapman and German and could care less how they win a la steriods with Clemens, Petitte, Mike Stanton, Grimsley, Leyritz, Knoblauch etc

Any other organization would have cut bait immediately with players guilty of domestic abuse but I guess it’s fine for Yankees to have players who choke ,slap or even shoot a gun at their girlfriends etc. Great examples of role models for kids to look up to!

And cherish an owner Pops Steinbrenner who is a convicted felon.

And even invited Jim Leyritz recently to an old timers game after he was convicted of vehicular homicide while driving drunk

How more pathetic can the Yankee organization be?

Oh my God, I almost got a "woody" reading this!!!! So dead on it isn't even funny. In breaking news, the Yankees were cheating the same way, and we landed a man on the moon.

That’s like Duke and UNC doing it. Nothing will ever happen with these programs..different rules too much money to be lost.

Lots of whining in this thread. Look, don't blame us for the Mets hiring Beltran.

This is why Houston got BLASTED out of orbit with yesterday's suspensions and firings, and rightfully so while no Yankee got a stern look for their medications in the late 90s.

BTW, fire Beltran, move Hensley Muellens up from Bench Coach and call it a day.

MLB turned a blind eye to it all. Did MLB go after McGuire, Bonds, Sosa or the Red Sox with Manny and Ortiz (both of whom failed tests).

It had nothing to do with one team over another. It was Bud's decision to passively accept it.

Because they all made money for MLB. You think the Minnesota Twins or Milwaukee Brewers wouldve gotten away with this back then?

Just like it’s MLB’s decision to passively accept electronic sign stealing until to crazy proof came out.

Just my opinion, why are cameras allowed to provide any live feeds during the game? Why are I-pads allowed in the dugouts? Why are video rooms allowed to be next to the dugouts in some parks? I understand shooting video during the games for future use for player development, but live feeds NO. If a player or coach can steal signs visually without electronics so be it. Get better signs. But the use of technology NO. This investigation into teams is far from over. Red Sox investigation going to be interesting with Cora. As a life long Mets fan, why does it seem we are involved somehow in every controversary. Honestly, I don't feel at ease with Beltran now.

They don't see it, their the "entitled" franchise, well, in their mind anyway.

My favorite part is that they say that the Yankees shouldve won both titles since they lost to both in the playoffs. What about the Dodgers who actually made it to both World Series?

he lied to the Mets and the fanbase. Told Mets he was not involved in cheating in interview. Furthermore all this talk about what great role model he is is bull sht. And can the players even respect him. Many on the Mets were directly impacted by his cheating.

I'm a Mets fan but this scandal is going to take down Beltran too, it reminds me too much of the Rice scandal, at first you thought TP was free from being dragged in but once you saw the monster of a story it became, you knew he was done too.

sure hope so. Hope it’s quick too so maybe we can get it right.

Huge black eye for the Mets and those that defend Beltran. He must go.
Not a huge black eye at all.

Until, how we respond.

Needs to be a strong statement behind him and why or a divisive firing.
But this has nothing to do with the Mets at the moment
