OT: Moderate to Significant Snow (and some rain SE of 95) for Sunday, 1/19.

As late as 930am weather.gov had Piscataway at 4-6 inches. We have a coating now and now says additional 1-3 expected. Just hoping there is enough to take kids sledding tomorrow like I promised them. Truly maddening

NWS finally updated their discussion and map and for 95 corridor says "snowfall forecast has decreased slightly" with 3-6" still forecast, but the change to the map is down maybe 1" for each swath along and SE of 95; I included this morning's map too. Not their finest hour in communications.

At least it's finally snowing moderately to heavily and starting to accumulate, but I have my doubts about getting even to 4" at this point, which I would consider a bust. I need to get outside and stop worrying about all this crap, lol.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH MONDAY/...
Latest regional snapshot shows precip shield filling in across all
of PA and beginning to fill in across northwest NJ. Heavy snow bands
across southeast PA (north and west of the Philly metro), Lehigh
Valley, Poconos, and northwest NJ are resulting in snowfall rates
around an inch per hour or more, reducing visibilities down to one
quarter of a mile at times. Locally heavier snowfall amounts are
possible as a result. No major changes to the snowfall forecast in
this area with a general 6-8 inches by the end of the event still
anticipated.

For the I-95 corridor, the forecast does remain on track with a
wintry mix coming down. Temperatures remain just a tad above
freezing at the moment, but have been steadily declining through the
afternoon. Some heavier pockets of precip are just beginning to
filter into the region from southwest to northeast. As the sun sets
and our coastal low continues to strengthen, we are forecasting
temperatures to fall over the next few hours to allow for a
changeover to all snow late this afternoon and into the evening.
Snowfall amounts in this area have decreased slightly, but largely
remain on track with a general 3-6 inches by the time snow ends
later tonight.

For southern NJ and the southern Delmarva, surface temperatures have
been slightly warmer than initially forecasted. As a result, it may
take a little bit more time for temperatures to cool later this
afternoon and evening to support some light snow on the back end of
this system. Still expecting precipitation to gradually fill in over
the next several hours starting off as mostly rain and slowly
transitioning to a wintry mix and eventually light snow. Totals in
this region have been reduced as a result of the longer duration
expected for precip to transition to snow. Generally expecting less
than 3 inches with most locations seeing less than 1 inch of total
accumulation by the time the storm departs tonight.

WTF is Mt. Holly doing? Who would issue a map starting 3 hours from now at 7 pm? Maybe a glitch? Still waiting for an updated map and discussion from Mt. Holly, but NWS-NYC recently reissued their map with no changes I can see.

That 2-4" aint happening in Wall/Manasquan. Not seeing that on my NWS page, but not looking too hard for it.

Been snowing moderately to heavily for the last hour and as of 5:45 pm we're up to 1" at 31F, so 3/4" in the last hour (had about 1/4" all day sadly). Radar looks great and if we can keep up good intensity through maybe 9 pm we might just get to 4". Big dendrites - very pretty out there. Just got done shoveling and I would imagine my experience is similar to anyone near or SE of 95 - we had slush underneath, then snow on top and it was a bit of work to get the bottom layer up - but it'll be impossible by late tonight, I think. So shovel.

I like to go out and shovel but I highly doubt most guys are going out tonight to do it. Most of us are having beers watching NFL playoffs and have tomorrow off. We aren’t going out in 2nd half of late game or after to do it. Got all day tomorrow

yup no surprise...americanwx deleted my posts calling out mt holly..looks like M Gorse was on who is with Mt holly and the mods not allowing free speech and protecting nws from any criticism...sorry they deserve it big time here for causing confusion and i think numbers would agree
I know I've given you crap before for some posts on that board, but questioning the communications mess the NWS handed us should not be deleted, although we both probably could've been a little more deferential about it (especially since Gorse is a very good met and guy and he's not even on shift right now). I posted yesterday about a few things I've been disappointed in over the past year or so with the NWS-Philly and this goes on the list. I don't get angry if they miss a forecast, because it's really hard to get them right, especially for a large area with mixed precip and temperature issues, but the bare minimum is for them to communicate their forecasts in a timely, logical manner and they failed during this shift change. No way to sugarcoat that.

his reasoning to you didnt make sense..its as if they just said this is completely normal to confuse people..if dialed in guys like us are confused, what does that say for some moron who goes to their website for a forecast?
