I didn’t want Matz in Queens but why Matz had to call Cohen first??? Maybe his attitude is the reason why Matz went elsewhere.
And you know what else? Cohen has gone after everyone besides the best pitcher they had other than deGrom, which should’ve been priority one. And don’t think Marcus Stroman won’t take heed to this.

Stro is actually one of the top guys on the market. And he has shown that he can perform in NY. What else could the Met's possibly want?
More mph on his fastball, a better strikeout rate, and be more of a Sandy/ company man.

For the most part, the market for the nine figure guys isn't going to heat up until the new CBA is in place. Figure February at the earliest.
Yeah, no way to put a positive spin on the Matz saga. Whether you wanted him back or not, the fact is that the Mets DID want him. And they didn't get him. And it seems that the negotiation process was flawed. This was not supposed to happen in the Cohen regime.
Hilarious a guy like Steve Cohen who made his fortune through insider trading and has faced numerous SEC probes and investigations and had his hedge fund pleaded guilty is calling a baseball agent unprofessional.

There was some actual Mets news today. Not earthshaking news, but news. They added two players to the 40 man roster, which is now at 39.
The more interesting add IMO is Nick Plummer, a 25 year old OF from the Cardinals organization. He is a former first round draft pick whose career was derailed by injuries. He seemed to bounce back in 2021, with a combined .894 OPS in AA and AAA. However, the Cards dropped him from the 40 man, and he elected free agency. The Mets signed him to a major league contract, so they must like him. MLB.com likes him too, as they have already slotted him as the Mets #9 prospect. Not sure whether this says more about his abilities, or the weakness of the Mets farm system.
The other addition is 25 year old RHP Antonio Santos, claimed on waivers from the Rockies, with whom he appeared in seven games last year in relief. However, in the minors he had been primarily a starter. The word on him is plus stuff, but control issues. So we'll see.
Lastly, some Robinson Cano news. He has left his DR winter league team due to "lower back discomfort", and is considered week to week. Sadly, I fear we may have seen the last of Mr. Cano.

Cano can’t play because of injuries the Mets can get some or all?? of his salary back depending on insurance

Here is how I view today's two transactions:
1) Escobar is an upgrade over Villar.
2) Canha is an upgrade over Pillar.
If the Mets share that expectation, then I am happy. But if the Mets are targeting either of these players for larger roles, then I am not happy.

I would think Escobar in all likelihood will be starting 2b or 3b. On Canha, I hope intent is to have him as 4th OF / backup 1B. I also expect Dom Smith / JD Davis and Jeff MCNeil to be dealt.

ESPN article this morning (sorry don’t know how to post but look it up) stated the Mets locked up the best Centerfielder on the market. If you are worrying about Cohen‘s tweets…don’t be. Marte was one of the best free agents out there. The other two are more depth Which every team needs. This should allow the Mets to trade some combo of Dom/McNeil/Davis for some pitching.
