For you hiking fans, my wife and I just got back from hiking the Scottish Highlands, specifically the 96-mile West Highland Way, from Milngavie (just outside of Glasgow) north to Fort William at the foot of Ben Nevis, the highest point in the UK. Terrific time, hiking "The Way" over 8 days, so averaging 12-miles per day. That trek starts out in town, quickly transitioning to farmland, then loch-side (Loch Lomond) and then on to the iconic, rugged Highlands. While traditionalists opt for "wild camping" (backpacking with equipment for tenting out), we took the cushy approach: inn-to-inn overnight lodging, carrying only daypacks. Luckily, weather-wise, only had to hike one half-day in the rain, the final day, descending into Fort William. If you're interested in details, post a reply. I'd be happy to share.
