Football GAMEDAY THREAD -- Rutgers Football vs. No. 1 Ohio State

Gave OSU all they can handle, but they are now asserting themselves. Really wished Ciarraca didn't try to think Gavin could help them score through the air. Gave up on the run and we paid with INT for 6 and now the momentum shift.
The game was the pick 6.
It’s mind boggling

No one thought we could come back against that Michigan State lead. We can do this. We’ve been outplaying OSU all game except for some bad breaks and Wimsatt overthrows. Need a good drive now

It’s just obvious there is no confidence in Gavin’s accuracy, deserving so. But we need some type of tight end in cuts. Anything.

Are you saying we should try to score more points then the other team?

It's worth a shot one of these years.
Instead of "Have the defense not let the other team score more points than us".

Its difference of the offense philosphy being playing to win it vs. playing to not lose it.

And now we'd be losing 14-12.
And within a FG. We could be down 21-0 as well.

Points are important and no way to know how things will play out. When the game is close against a high quality team I say keep it close as long as you can. Don’t do things to burst the bubble earlier than it might.

It’s that pass in the redzone that burst the bubble not the runs that were conservative.

Mind you, I agree with the idea of trying to score TDs and not play for FGs but we are also somewhat limited to what we can do effectively because of the roster.

I watch a few games and see Wimsatt overthrows on vertical routes
I watch Schiano games for 15 yrs and know the RZ offense stinks every year
In this game we got both and I wont blame the QB
Not totally true. With Teel, Underwood, Britt, Brown, there were times they could almost score at will.

The real issue is that Wimsatt just is not accurate. He is just too inconsistent so that the offense is one-dimensional. Maybe early enrollment and competition by Surace going into spring changes things for Wimsatt next year.

I don't know why RU got away from the run
Maybe coaches didn't want to wear fellas out
Madden used to say "keep running what's working until they stop it."

Team has made great progress...would like to see Gavin improve as a passer in the remaining games...and want to hear about him throwing all spring and summer...maybe go out to manning passing academy or something...idk what the nil money is like, i know some want a new QB..but watch other games, if the QB is any good throwing in the transfer portal like a drake maye or sam Hartman or Michael penix, the big boys are spending big money on them. Otherwise you have QBs that struggle like Gavin..even Penn State QB looked bad against OSU..

Yikes. Brown really has slowed. A lot. Surprised no Benjamin.
There were no holes (that I could see). So he hesitated to see if one showed up. A missed block on the end is what blew that play up, not the RB.

... which is better than 21-9.

Ah. The old HC Ash play to make the score look better and not play to try and win?
Those were fun times.

I'd rather lose 40-7 to OSU if meant we threw the ball 50 times and Gavin got work in benefit the team the rest of the season.

Ray Rice had multiple games in which he ran over 35 times (2 even with 39!).

Kyle’s a special player that just needs the rock

Brown is slower to the line

our home coaches think he's a number 1 pick next year lol

Mongo and Benji are the only two who should touch the rock rest of the season

The truth is the third string QB at SMU or Texas Tech is better than Wimsatt. We need to start recruiting Houston and Dallas every year for a QB. You cant beat the #1 team if you cant throw a 5 yard pass.

see my posts beginning of year on the RBs
Mongo needs 20+ a game and we win

Britt had 2 true RZ TD receptions in career
Midfield going up the sideline he was a monster.
Underwood used to hear footsteps and dropped a bunch of end zone receptions vs WV in 07.
Rice was the only threat and even he couldn't keep Ito from RZ FGs

2007:

"The individual offensive numbers look like something from a video game. Rutgers will likely finish this season with two 1,000-yard receivers for the first time in school history, with a 3,000-yard passer and, most likely, with a 1,600-yard rusher. Yet there were the Knights, settling for five field goal tries in six red zone trips against Connecticut on Saturday (making four) while managing just one touchdown. The total offense wound up as 511 yards that game. The number of offensive touchdowns in the 38-19 loss? One. "It's not all about stats. It's about being efficient," said quarterback Mike Teel, who gave his sore right thumb a rest while working on a limited basis at practice yesterday. "We had 500 yards of offense and we scored one touchdown."

I wouldnt. It's dumb for a variety of reasons.
