Jackson = Lakewood 2.0

Time to bail my union loving friend.
My kid is out of school and my wife has a fantastic business that most of her clients are Orthodox women. No need for me to move. The house across the street just sold for a million dollars.

When my wife started her business the wife of a rabbi was a client. She told my wife "Tom's wife in our community if we like you, you will do very well. And we like you."

Sounds like a great time to move. Jackson is only going to head downhill from now. Be proactive.

By the way the Orthodox own enough acres in the Browns Mill area to build an entire city. It is not if but when Burlington and Ocean counties are overwhelmingly Orthodox.

They are also buying up Linden and towns in norther Bergen county.

My experience has been nothing but positive. And they know I am a heathen.

My wife loves our house and land so I am not moving. I would have moved years ago and it has nothing to do with the Orthodox. I wanted a condo at the beach.

If you want to live in a suburban ghetto like Lakewood, be my guest. Your town will be destroyed. Stay too long and you will get stuck.

I will be fine. My house is such a small part of my assets I will live here until my wife wants to leave.

T2K is tone deaf and he lives in an echo chamber. You have good reason to stay.
Same for me to stay in NJ, a "business unfriendly" state. But a great talent pool in our field, a great transportation network with trains into 2 of the largest cities in the country and multiple airports. We have beaches, forests, rivers, a lot of dedicated open space in Monmouth and Ocean Counties and an excellent quality of life.

Some like to focus on negatives and cast stone. And give bad advice. The worst vice is advice. Some of us choose to adapt, make the best of our situation and live happy lives in harmony with our neighbors. What a novel concept.

The only positive thing in your favor is that Jackson's elected body did a nice job delaying/blocking the inevitable for about 10 years. Otherwise, your town would be mini-Lakewood by now. You might have 5-10 years before the bow breaks.

Yeah, that didn't work out too well in Lakewood.

They did a terrible job which resulted in Federal civil rights fines

Is she a financial advisor that advises them to have 6 kids by age of 23 and suck the govt resources dry?

She is an exercise physiologist.

I have no idea if her clients get any government assistance. Most seem very financially secure.
She says they are all lovey people, and she is glad she got to meet them and get to know them on a personal level. My new Orthodox neighbors also seem very nice.

I do know that you sound antisemitic.

Yeah the truth and facts offend people sometimes.

Also interesting you chose to tell me they are nice people. I have no doubt you are correct. I don't see anywhere where I said they were not nice people. Financially they suck govt dry which is statistical fact.

funny how people like to point out a good while not wanting to acknowledge a non PC bad.

This bad idea just keeps getting worse. Having a foreign company 100% manage the electricity for a large portion of the state can't be a good thing. Expect electric rates to skyrocket if this thing actually gets built. I wonder how much money the politicians are getting from this company to allow it to happen?

LOL. This is so New Jersey. Not going to end well.

I don't buy the "eyesore" for a minute, but running a transmission line under the beach and environmentally sensitive areas of Ocean City? Didn't that get Keystone cancelled and tied up any project with similar issues for years?

Beaches are great, except for all the sand. If you do get a condo at the beach, be sure to pave the beach.

That rotor design only works if freewheeling - it won't turn a generator.

The problem with "put windmills on the buildings that use the energy" is that they would have to be too large for the structure to readily support. Roof loads are a pretty serious thing, especially with tall buildings.

Localized wind turbines on a smaller scale absolutely would be contributory to the overall demand but wouldn't actually replace any non-localized source.

The counter-argument to offshore wind - that we should be drilling instead because of the costs of offshore wind production - should probably be shelved given the fact that deep water drilling rigs run about $1B and the day rate for offshore production is expected to hit half a million dollars by the end of the year.
I'm coming around to thinking that, instead of putting up N wind turbines of the NJ coast, we could just put in N/2 nuclear reactors and N/2 oil rigs. Surely that will pacify the residents who are opposed to the turbines and keep insisting we use existing abundant energy sources.

The ironic (sorta) thing about the resistance to offshore wind platforms is that the processes required to stand up an offshore oil rig are much the same - except for the additional impact of exploratory drilling and mapping required for the oil rigs.

Also, there's no oil off the coast of NJ.

Well, yeah, that's the reality. But I was hoping to step over reality and mostly just wanted to piss off the folks up in arms over the wind turbines, what with me being the teasing douchebag I am. 🙂

I'm not opposed to the windmills because of the eyesore issue its the fact that electric rates will go up 100-200%

Do we know that's true? I see a lot of speculation, but am doubtful.
Its happened everywhere they are put in. How do you think they are going to pay for the $1 billion dollars of infrastructure?

Can you point me to where it says rates will go up 100-200% in that specific article?

The only thing I see is the below.

"The MAOD-JCP&L proposal is estimated to cost $504 million. The necessary onshore grid upgrade projects are estimated to cost $568 million, for a total of $1.07 billion for the full LTCS. The Board estimates that ratepayers will save more than $900 million through these projects."

I mean, opponents to many types of projects like to toss out the old reliable "it'll cost you" line. Thing is, it's usually a safe bet that costs and/or taxes will have gone up no matter what happens. Because that's what they generally do, right? Over time?

Not saying that the use of wind turbines won't be one of the causes for electricity costs going up. Maybe it will. The question is how much would they have gone up anyway? How much is due to companies taking advantage of the situation to raise prices while pointing fingers to avoid blame?

I've found it difficult to actually determine the facts and true numbers with this sort of thing. Most of the interested parties, on all sides of the issue, tend to obfuscate whatever doesn't support their agenda and promote/inflate whatever does.

I'd be pretty skeptical of the numbers coming from either side on this wind-turbine "issue".

More detail here, not seeing such a huge increase, but potential for larger increases.

Again, I’m skeptical of accuracy of the number in the following quote, but if it were true, it makes claims of doubling or tripling costs look ridiculous:

As a result of the project, the average New Jersey resident will pay about $1.28 more per month on a residential electric bill, according to New Jersey Board of Public Utilities documents.

For another project mentioned in the article, the number given is $2.21/month.

It doesnt say it of course. Do you think they want anyone to know that? Who do you think is paying for all this stuff? Of course i don't know for sure but its happened where they put these up. Time will tell of course but don't say you weren't warned

I guess we will all know soon enough because this is happening regardless of what anyone wants it seems.

Ridiculous fear mongering and totally false.

I guess we shall see. But explain to me who do you think is going to pay for the BILLION dollars of infrastructure? Do you think companies like Orsted do these projects for the greater good or to make money?

Take NJ American water as an example. Most municipalities back in the day provided water and sewer at a minimal cost but towns started outsourcing it to companies like NJAW and costs have skyrocketed. This will be worse, you'll see.

2020?

Take out Lakewood influx from NYC and immigrants in North Jersey and let me know how we're doing

So, in order to count the population of NJ, you think we need to not count people?

Weird, do those in Lakewood and immigrants not count as people in your view?

It really says something that "adult" "men" behave the way he does. If you don't like your situation, change it.

Netflix just made a massive investment in NJ and they can be trusted more than internet clowns with multiple handles on this board to push their BS.

Love when guys who have lived in NJ their whole lives trip over themselves to try to fake how terrible it is 😂

Just move, bro.

There's two categories:

1) Mom won't pay the bus fare and rent in Floriduh

2) The wife wears the pants, makes the money and decides where the family lives while the "man's" "career" is post hundreds of times a day on this board.

Thus why no moves, and so much time to cry.
