OT: Official 2021 NY Mets Season Thread

Well I sure miscalled this one.

When the Mets went 0-3 with RISP in the very first inning, I figured it was going to be another one of THESE games.

It wasn't. It was one of THOSE games.

Team and organization are a joke, as always. You lose DeGrom, Walker has been shit for months, Carrasco is just coming back, Megill is still unproven over any kind of relevant sample and the only thing you do to improve the pitching is Rich Hill? No bullpen help either? How overworked is Castro? All of a sudden you count on Familia as a major component of the pen?

Baez just got hurt with a different injury but he was damaged goods to begin with when The Mets traded for him. Bum foot. Ridiculous. Did they really focus on him over Bryant? Assnine, if so.

And who is this hitting coach they hired. Who the hell is Hugh Quattlebaum? The approaches are absolute garbage. No taking into account anything like game situation, runners on base, count,...just swing for the goddamn fences every single swing. Kennedy blowing Alonso and Davis away on 6 straight 93 MPH fastballs up in the zone because the idiots won't adjust anything on their ridiculous uppercut haymaker swings. Garbage.

And now I have to watch Wheeler, who the previous regime was too cheap to pay, blow us away en route to a Cy Young Award and Division Title.

Rant over. So goddamn frustrating. Division fng stinks. Acuna major injury. Division was there for the taking.
Just remember one thing about Wheeler. He really came into his own once he got away from this organization and their comic book coaches. He probably wouldn’t have been as good if he stayed. I’m sure Conforto will be fixed next year too when he’s playing for someone else. Makes you think DeGrom would be unhuman if he played somewhere else…unless he’s just smart enough not to listen.

We see you skew negative most of the time, but your comment makes no sense when you consider how strong the Mets pitching has been. See Taijuan Walker, deGrom, Syndergaard, etc.

Cmon man. What about DeGrom?
Mets a few games back with a lot to go. Hang in there

LOL. A 20 second video clip used to paint Mets fans with a broad brush. This is the part of the thread when douchy fans from other teams come to mock and belittle the Mets. Stay Philly, dude.
Oh the irony! Struck a nerve I guess. Figures NY fans can’t take being called out. You are the first to chastise Philly fans but you succumb to being soft patsies and making excuses when the rolls are reversed. Typical.

No. 0.233 OBP since he joined Mets. Lower than Nimmo, McNeil, Alonso, Smith, Davis, CONFORTO, Villar, and even Almora during the same time frame.

He beats McCann.
Dude I get your beef but enough already. Baez has been playing hurt since he came to NY. We can argue all day should they Mets have traded for him or not. Please don’t tell me you’d rather Almora be at the plate, he had ONE game having 3 hits, Rather have Baez over a totally lost Conforto ( by the way not only lost at the plate but also the field). I will say it again when he is on base he gets it dohe. Look at his slide at home where every other Met is out.

Bottom line make Baez your whipping boy. Right now he is WAY down on my list. Rojas, Cohen, Alderson, training staff, non existent batting coach, Konforto, McCant, Davis, Villar ( way better off the bench), Pillar ( see Villar). Come to think of it Baez doesn’t even make my top 10. I could rattle off even more at this point.

How is Rojas not fired yet. Someone has to take the fall. You can’t fire the players.

It’s not a 100%rebuild per se because of the proposal to sign the applicable free agents. But the farm system needs top AAA talent which doesn’t exist - hence the degrom trade and thus get value for him when you can.
If the above happened, nucleus of team is as follows:

1b - Alonso
2b - Baez
SS - Lindor
3b - Bryant
OF - Smith / Marte / TBD via trade of others.
C - MCCann

SP - Noah / Stroman / Carrasco / Megill / Walker

Stopper - Diaz / Lugo etc

Bryant improves lineup because he can hit / makes contact and is flexible. Marte steals and can manufacture runs.

Point is the team needs a massive overhaul as the current model is ineffective and has proven to be a failure from the top down to the core of the team for several years.
deGrom is not getting traded. They did that with Seaver and the organization saw how it was received. I don't think they want to experience that again.

This tweet is not that far off. A couple of Alonso's swings looked like this, and so did Baez (not piling on him). During the pre-game, Keith discussed that they are having a problem hitting fastballs. How does that happen?

If the best power hitter in baseball says we got this, who am I to argue?

Normally, I remain calm and positive, even when things are going bad.
But since the All Star break, this team has been lifeless on offense, and the pitching has slipped, even after taking the loss of de Grom into account.

Here's the big problem for them. First half, they feasted on crap teams. You know why they were 17-9 in May? Thank Colorado, Arizona and Baltimore. They built that lead and have tread water since because all the other teams were middling. Now the Phillies and Braves have woken up, and Mets are sleepwalking.

Don't think this was updated for today's loss, which puts Mets at 8-8 vs. Phils.

Nats are up next, and they are 3-5 against the Nats. And they are 3-6 against the Marlins.

They go over well if you can back it up. The Joe Namath guarantee redux?
Joe Namath made a guarantee, same for Messier. Pete said this is just a game and Mets fans should smile and be happy. That's belittling fans who are passionate about the sport and team.

Apples and oranges.

Alonso said "Just smile and know that we got this". Maybe not quite a guarantee, but pretty close.
