OT- Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominees-INDUCTEES ANNOUNCED

Epic, era defining Brits are missing..

Joy Division
The Smiths
New Order
The Cure (especially)

The Pixies from US

Agreed, although only the Cure were really big in the US, so I can kind of understand all of them but the Cure not being in. Don't think the Jam are in either and they ruled the UK for years.

Radiohead eligible next year. I don't expect they will rush in but at some point maybe. Lots of yanks I know have "Creep" as a personal anthem lol

MY 5:

ELO-travesty they aren't in already
Yes- see above
Journey
Steppenwolf
The Zombies-Maybe a little before some of your time but this Ron Argent led band with "She's Not There" & "Time of the Season" was one of the bands that was the soundtrack of the second half of the 60's. If Abba, Brenda Lee and the Dave Clark Five are in the Hall the Zombies definitely belong.

Close but no cigar:

The Cars
J.Geils
Pearl Jam

Instead Tupac and Janet Jackson will get in.

How does the nominating process work??? Any chance that John Scher can get nominated??? He basically ran the music scene in the Northeast for two decades.

Say what? Can't agree. Solid, absolutely, but never in my life have I heard him regarded as "the best" and I wouldn't even put him in the "one of the best rappers" category. I'd put him as a 2nd-level guy but, hey, that's just me.

You have really never heard that? I think he is generally in that conversation, and many people regard him as the best. Personally, I think he is the best ever, with Biggie as #2. But I grew up when that stuff was popular, and now I hate hip-hop and never listen to it anymore. I wonder who younger people think are the greatest rappers of all time.

Who is at the top of your list?

on Tupac, I dont like him and I hate the genre totally but I see why he should get in. Its about influence and how he impacted the culture. I think the hall of fame isnt always about the best or who sold the most (although sometimes it is). Its the artists legacy on future generations in a genre. Tupac being killed young added to his legend as it does with so many others like Kurt, Janis, Jim

I just really cant see any real argument for Journey other than they sold alot of records in the 80s playing generic rock and then got lucky one of their songs got used in a few tv shows to become popular almost 20 years later

I would say artists like Yes and the Moody Blues would seem like no brainers to get in but not sure whats going on with that. Also the Cure and the Smiths had huge influences on alternative music and should be in.

We agree on everything but Journey, and frankly, I can only take Journey in small doses. Maybe their omnipresence on MTV in the 1980's is influencing my opinion on their influence.

Only 5 get in. Pick your 5.
Shame that only 5 should get in, because it is a travesty that ELO, Journey, Steppenwolf, J. Geils Band, The Cars and Yes are not already in the Hall, and Madonna and other acts having questionable rock credentials are in.
Pearl Jam and Jane's Addiction can wait. It too Van Halen 10 years past their eligibility before they got in.

My 5:
ELO
Journey
The Cars
J. Geils Band
Yes
--------
Runners Up
Bad Brains
Joan Baez
Steppenwolf

Nominees Jann Wenner will let in above more deserving acts:
Chaka Khan
Kraftwerk
Tupac Shakur

Full List of Nominees:

Bad Brains
Chaka Khan
Chic
Depeche Mode
Electric Light Orchestra
J. Geils Band
Jane’s Addiction
Janet Jackson
Joan Baez
Joe Tex
Journey
Kraftwerk
MC5
Pearl Jam
Steppenwolf
The Cars
The Zombies
Tupac Shakur
Yes
Depeche Mode
Cars
Steppenwolf
Spooky Tooth
Greg Kihn band
Black Eyed Peas
Deep Purple if not in already

Until Todd Rundgren is nominated / elected....NO HOF for anyone!

MO
bad choice MO
not sure what genre to put Todd in
Put in Kid Rock if Todd gets in to fill out the Detroit scene
Make "I am Cowboy" the theme of the evening

Big surprise Moody Blues not in

I agree with #'s picks as well, Pearl Jam, Tupac, The Cars, Kraftwerk and Yes.
@RU848789 DJ's a bunch of events, including my annual Halloween party. So he fancies himself somewhat of an authority on music. This agreement of his choices is going to make him even more impossible to deal with now. [laughing]

I am 31, but I love the Zombies. They are an extremely underrated band. The hits you mentioned are very good, but their album odyssey and oracle from 1968 is one of the best albums from a prolific era of music. It's sort of a mix between sgt. peppers and piper at the gates of down by Pink Floyd. For that album alone they should have been in years ago.

Janet Jackson has had more hits than all combined. Who cares about Super Bowl shows? And she was relevant in music for over 25 years. Disgrace that there is so much prejudice. Sexual and racial.

They should just change the name to The Popular Music Hall of Fame. Janet Jackson has as much to do with rock and roll as Garth Brooks does.

I didn't notice that The Zombies were on the list. I will now change my list having The Zombies replace The Cars, although I do think they are worthy too. The Zombies define the concept of "being ahead of their time". Listen to Odyssey and Oracle, and then compare it to other popular music in 1968. I think they are incredible.

Thanks for posting this. Cannot believe the Cars are left out again. The early stuff especially with Orr was amazing.

But Tupac is so much more rock and roll than the Cars.
Bad Brains is really underrated and was hoping they would make it in on a long shot. They have influenced so many other punk bands.

Uh...check out The War on Drugs, Arcade Fire, The Black Keys, Arctic Monkeys, Alabama Shakes, Gary Clark jr., Dinosaur jr., Mumford and Sons, Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats, Kings of Leon, My Morning Jacket, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Jack White....off the top of my head.

Mumford and Sons...best band in music today. By far.

I've been to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and thought it was cool, especially because when I was there they had an exhibit for Bruce Springsteen and there was a poster for a show at Rutgers (Records Hall I believe), but the place has no credibility to me until Judas Priest and Iron Maiden are in.

Tupac is definitely considered one of the best, and his influence in 90s rap was huge. When I think of late 80s through the 90s rap, the golden age of rap, I think about these guys (in no order):

2Pac
Wu Tang Clan
KRS-One
Redman, Keith Murray, EPMD
Busta Rhymes, A Tribe Called Quest
NWA, Easy-E, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube
Snoop Dogg
Eminem
Puff Daddy, Notorious BIG, Lil Kim
OutKast
Jay-Z
Nas
MC Hammer
Timbaland & Magoo, Missy Elliott
DMX

My five were: Pearl Jam, Tupac Shakur, The Cars, Kraftwerk, and Yes. I did say, "
Several others should also be considered, like Chic, Joan Baez, Bad Brains, and Depeche Mode, but sadly, I'm worried that popular, but derivative acts like Journey, Janet Jackson and ELO would get in over them and the ones above." so maybe I get partial credit for Journey and ELO. No way Joan Baez should be in.

so Journey got in. Some of you felt they should, others not so much.
To me, they were pedestrian at best.
Anyone care to explain what their thinking was as to why they should be in.

Agreed, I have zero issue with 2pac getting in , similarly with last year them inducting NWA.

Depeche Mode
Yes
Pearl Jam (Just as Revolutionary as Nirvana in my opinion)
Journey
Tupac Shakur

I missed on Depeche Mode and I think still think they were robbed. You can almost trace the origins of Electronic music to them. They are so influential it is disgusting. Joan Baez was very important culturally in the 60's and she was an amazing songwriter, but I don't think she should have beat out Depeche Mode.

I won't count the ELO as a miss because for some unknown reason they allowed 6 in this year.

Just saw ARW (Anderson Rabin Wakeman) last weekend. They are going through North Jersey this week. It was terrific. Jon Anderson sounds great. If you are a Yes fan, this is a energetic show.
Saw them in AC and the other yes in Foxwoods both were awesome ARW being a lot better though. I have been a diehard Yes fan longer than an RU fan they should have been in the hall years ago. Because of the many members this hurt their chances but what the committee didn't understand is they are truly progressive in every way. But theirs was a lifetime membership and a way of keeping the ❤️ of the band alive. I have seen every different combo since the early 70's and have never been disappointed.
