OT: Winter Storm Sat Night/Sunday (2/17-18)?

Weather app is saying 33 degrees and mixed precipitation here in JC now. Looks like it’s all snow to me, and my thermometer outside reads 36. There’s about an inch on the garbage can lid.

As far as JC is concerned, this one was a bust.

7.75 here in Kinnelon. Weather center on deck says 30 still

Such a major difference moving from hoboken to here. At least 5-7 degrees

Measured 8 inches in multiple places in the yard in Morris Plains. Heap on top of the car was closer to 10.

So as of 9 pm we now have 4.0" of snow on the ground, which was a 1.5" per hour rate the past half hour. Pouring out there. Seriously pouring. Just made an abstract snowman, lol - great packing snow. Still 32F. Will absolutely make 5" now, but hoping for 6" of snow.

Snow slowed down a bit the last hour as we "only" got 3/4" - at 4.75" now and will easily make 5", but not sure beyond that, as the back edge is getting closer. Great storm. Will have to post that snowman pic - here it is - me and the snowman in the Metuchen Snow Globe...

Guy in Levittown reported 2.5" - Philly has been mostly on the wrong side of the edge tonight with only 1" reported in Center City - even NW Philly reporring 2" and KOP has 3"+. Drive safely, especially since could be a little sleet and freezing rain there.
Much different at home. At least 2.5. Trees down. Light right off 95 on Taylorsville is out. Unplowed roads. As some have said different bands are producing different amounts. I would say near Oxford Valley Mall- Sesame Place is probably the worst I saw. Dan the Record Handler (seriously??) on 101.5 is reporting 1.5 outside the studio in Ewing about 6/7 miles from here.

and Im unofficially done....4 to perhaps 4.25 here....2.5 on pavement.....did better than what I thought it was going to be....talk about a quick thump..in and out in less than 5 hours.

Still raining at Exit 98.
Around 5:00 pm, my wife and younger son left Hazlet to go to Federicos in Belmar. Had a great dinner there and left around 6:30 pm with nothing in the air.By the time we got to Colts Neck, 15 minutes later, it was snowing like crazy. I guess from what you said, it never snowed in Belmar. It is so weird seeing how different the weather can be in such a short distance, unreal. As we got to Hazlet, another 15 minutes, the snow was sticking everywhere, and we realized that heading out for an early BYOB was a good decision. Another hour would have made the travel home very dangerous.

Done here as well. Turned back to snow into Bucks on 95 than nothing. This stuff is really heavy here. Glad I wont have to shovel. 34 and rising

5.0" as of 11 pm and I think that is probably it, as the radar has completely fallen apart the last half hour, somewhat more quickly than expected, but I won't complain, as this storm overperformed for some, including me, as I predicted 4.5" at my house. Reports of 4-6" along most of 95 north of Trenton to NYC, 6-8" well to the NW in PA and NJ, 2-4" in Monmouth, Burllington and just north of Philly, but only 1-2" in Philly and adjacent SNJ, but 2-4" just NW of Philly.

I guess every model can claim success (and failure) in different spots. All seemed accurate in Lehigh Valley and NW NJ.

If Frosty had legs am I the only one who thinks he would run away? :)

Still snowing here.
I was thinking for a guy that loved snow so much you would think he could make a better snowman. That sucker is beat! [winking]

So, this 5" brought me to 24.5" for the season vs. the avg of about 28" for the season in NB. One more good storm gets us there. And supposedly @mildone says we're playing our weekly soccer match tomorrow morning in the snow. I love it, but I'm skeptical everyone shows up.

Roads should be fine by the morning and much of the snow will be gone by tomorrow evening with the rest gone by Monday. And temps in the upper 60s to low 70s on Tues/Weds - could be record-breaking. Just remember, though, March is snowier than December, on average, and the long-range pattern folks still insist we shift to a somewhat colder than normal and snowier than normal pattern by around 2/25 or so.

@bac2therac will have something to say about this.
I'll bet you right now--there will be less than 4" of measurable snow in March (in South Monmouth).

Half of what we got in Jersey City has already melted away. My patio has an inch or so of slurpee soup and a giant puddle by the drain. I’d be surprised if there’s anything left by sunup, especially if the temp remains around 36-37.

NWS did pretty well on this one...

Ugh, so this is gonna be lotsa fun to clean up. Gonna push as much as I can into the street and let it melt and run down the hill.

I still can't believe how much we got - no one can call this storm a bust!

They never see to include Union County in NJ in these lists

Union is usually there, but the problem is this board is much more NWS-Philly centric, as that office includes Middlesex, Somerset, Hunterdon, Monmouth, Mercer, Ocean, Morris, Warren, Sussex and South Jersey (and eastern PA/DE/MD eastern shore), so often folks only include reports from that office. Union, Essex, Hudson, Bergen, and Passaic are under the NWS-NYC office, along with NYC, LI, Hudson Valley and S CT.

[

Only 2 locations but Union's there.......

There's absolutely no way that Newark report is correct. Nobody else within 20 miles of EWR got less than 4" (and you also can't count the Harrison report of 3.5" as that was before 9 pm with the storm far from over.

EWR has massive UHI. I can believe it, since temps were marginal for most of the event.
