I'm cancelling my northern NJ to AC trip this weekend then. Looks like it's not worth the risk driving down and back.

Dan zarrow Nj 101.5 says 6-8 north jersey 8-12 I78 to Exit 9 turnpike so brunswick. 12-18 south of there with potential for more with banding

It depends on the SUV, I guess, but no serious snow-plow is getting stuck in only 40" of snow. Is part of why I keep my Suburban around. It handled that storm just fine although going too slowly could cause a problem because of snow buildup ahead of the wheels. That storm was right on the limit, though. Any more and the Suburban would've struggled.

It might have been when you hit it. My wife and I were coming home from Virginia. Made it fine through everything up until we hit Jersey. While the PA Turnpike had a ton of plows going and the roads in decent shape, the NJ turnpike had far less. Once we reached I-138 the plowing was pretty much over.

I saw snow plows get stopped in their tracks and several SUVs get stuck. There were SUV owners that were confident they could plow through only to go nowhere.

If the roads aren't plowed and it's a blizzard with snow over 40 inches coming down hard, there's not much chance for anyone. At least that's what I saw.

Btw, Virginia never showed storm reports for the north and we couldn't get Internet access, so we decided to try making it home. My biggest problem with Gov Christie is he totally blew his first disaster situation. A few thousand people got stranded on the roads that day while he was on vacation. All they needed to do was close some of the major roads like the NJ turnpike and direct people to rest areas. Even a friggin warning sign at the toll booth would have been a huge help. There was nothing indicating that the state had issued a major warning. So for his so called leadership...

Mt Holly snow maps are 9-14 for Central Jersey.
Pretty modest totals, for all the hype this week. This is setting up for a big bust. Lots of great warmer weather is right around the corner, so the melt will be very quick.

Hillsborough has a high of 46 on Tuesday.

What street is your shop on and what will you be selling? Is it one of the new storefronts by Boardwalk Hall?

We looked at those new shops, because we wanted to be near Boardwalk Hall, but they were too pricey. We're about a hundred yards south of there, at Texas Ave. Close enough to do vending at events to even things out during the off-season.

We are opening a water ice franchise. Hopefully we will fill the void left by the successful Rita's that was just closed down because Bally's replaced it with a new bar.

Yeah, I'm a Maryland guy who married a Jersey girl, so I guess I've turned into Jersey boy. I do like it here...

The upcoming gfs and euro will lock in predictions heading into tomorrow....if the models continue to tick wetter expect a slight bump in predicted amounts. The bigger amounts all depend on who gets into the heavy banding...which is tough for even the modela to get a handle on

Where do you live? Im in Ocean City and frequent the boardwalk quite often, so I will be sure to stop by, what will it be called?

I live in Washington Twp in Gloucester County, but we will be buying a house somewhere at the beach (the shore, oops) in the near future. I'll probably spend more time up here, not giving up the day job.

It's Polish Water Ice. There are two of them on the OC Boardwalk. My Rutgers grad son, who will be managing it, has already said he will be displaying a block "R" in the window.

Mods, sorry, I know this has to be breaking scads of rules. Please delete and ban as needed and I will understand!

The wife and I love going to Polish Water Ice when we are down in Ocean City!
We also go to Atlantic City a lot, so she will be excited that there is now one there. Good luck!

Thanks, Mullett and Newell. We're nervous but also excited about it.

Sorry for messing up this thread...

Guys, at some point you just have to say "screw the models, let's just look out the window". That's the mistake that modern "meteorology" makes, IMO.

Look at this storm in real time:

http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/east/eaus/h5-loop-wv.html

This is just what I was looking for, a real time satellite view. Looks like she's just starting to get that distinct Nor'easter counter clockwise rotation with the Low centered over central Bama. Will be interesting see it when it moves over the ocean and "blows up"

I'm supposed to drive from Middletown to linden around 7 pm tonight and back to Middletown around 11 pm . Any idea is snow will hold off at that time ?

With events like this, precip often moves in earlier than modeled, so it's possible we could see some light snow with minor accumulations by 10-11 pm. Possible. Main snow still after 1-2 am...

The real question for RU #s is when do you sleep? I need a minimum of 7 hours, how are you up at 3AM and going to work today?
Asleep by 4 am and up at 7 am for work - just checking in here for first time today (work intrudes, lol) - sleep is overrated...

Latest NAM continues to crush our entire area with 18-30" of snow. Overdone? Probably, but it's been very consistent and the other models have been moving towards it, i.e., it can't be ignored, especially since it's been the best model, once in awhile.

DT gave his last call.

Hit me up if you are looking to buy in OC, I would highly recommend it. We moved here 7 years ago, it was the best decision we could have made. My daughter is a realtor in town now.

No worries - no rules being broken that I can see.

Yeah, but it's not a 4 wheel drive Wrangler!

I wouldn't say those models have move toward it, they have nowhere near the qpf and the GFS is far different with its gradient while the NAM is a widespread hit. The weenies are out of control in the americanwx thread hugging it and taking it to the bank.

GFS and Euro will tell the story of final calls...if their amounts increase then the mets will pull the trigger on higher snowfall totals but they wont just side with the NAM and SREFs if they don't have the support of the other two

yes and the NAM which I just trashed has snow starting at 10PM in the area. These events always start earlier and always end earlier so I would caution people who are travelling tonight to either keep an eye on this thead or your radar of choice

wow. This thread has 33,397 views now. The 75 page never ending Mets thread reached 36,655 (not that there is anything wrong with that). I think this will go over that by mid afternoon. By Monday it will top 45k. Not to go all NAM but we may reach average stadium attendance levels by mid week.

12z RGEM which is a decent model at this time was 4-8 north jersey...8-16 central jersey...16-24 south jersey toward Philly.....not the crazy nam solution and similar to its 6z run

so while it didn't move toward the NAM because it wants to eject energy out east...it still is giving very solid snowfall totals..more of central jersey gets into the higher amount tongue...so you could see over a foot. It does not bring the heavy snows to north jersey and nyc like the NAM. I would say from north central jersey on south you are in for it but to the north of that looks like you are more 8-12
