OT: Big winter storm next weekend (01/22-01/24)?

NWS snowfall maps updated and significantly increased, as I expected, but they went even higher than I was thinking, especially in NYC. NYC now 12-18" (I was thinking 10-14") and most of CNJ at 14-20" from 78 down to 195 (close to the 12-20" I was thinking). SE PA/South Jersey, including Philly at 16-24", except decreasing towards the coast (and down to 8-12" right along the shore from AC to Cape May, due to sleet/rain). Big storm folks, big blizzard. Starts in a few hours - heading to the pub soon - haven't had a lot of sleep lately and I'm sure I won't sleep more than a couple of hours tonight.

Have to love the min/max maps on the NWS site. Shows my house will get a min of 3" and a max of 28". Nice spread, lol. More realistically, a 14-20" forecast should at least deliver min 8" and shouldn't deliver more than 26" (+/-6" seems more reasonable).

At least in South Jersey, it is supposed to reach 37 on Sunday, 40 on Monday, and 43 on Tuesday. I hoping that means we'll melt reasonably fast (although, since there is no rain forecast, not with a flood). I hope the same is true for the rest of you. BTW, I notice that NWS-Mount Holly put out a 4 p.m. forecast that seems to boost the numbers and to move the blizzard area to the north.

There is going to be a lot of snow to melt.

NWS updated to 18 - 24" for Camden County. Every time they update it keeps on going up. So glad it is the weekend!

Phew, the Cub Scouts got smart and postponed the Klondike Derby which was supposed to be tomorrow morning at 8. They've been hedging their bets all day, finally the state park where it's being held announced it would be closed, forcing their hand.

Numbers, what pub are you headed to? Hubby & I live in Metuchen and plan on stopping by Haley's after our movie ends.

wimps! Isn't the Klondike Derby about pulling sleds? My last Klondike Derby was at Camp Allamuchy up off of Rt 80, circa 1976 or so. We had 20 degree weather, snow and teepee tents with cotton sleeping bags.

It appears it will be a devastating storm that will cause lots of damage and destruction in New Jersey, especially at the Shore.

I'm hoping for it not to be as bad as feared, be safe everyone.

well however bad it gets, hopefully we're all here next week, talking, or arguing, or whatever it is that y'all like to do when on here!!:pray:

Yep - might even have @mildone and pop-o-pies in tow, along with about 4-6 others, depending on who shows up. Ever since Hailey's opened many years ago, it's where I make our friends go, when it snows. It's walkable and you don't feel bad tracking in a bunch of snow, plus the pub grub is quite good and the ambience is good (Irish pub). Look for the tall, blonde (and grey, lol) guy...

Haha, damn. Wife & I are in North Edison.
Never been to Hailey's but as a couple of Irish folk, would love to have had a few Guinness there.
But, been drinking them at home already.
Next time maybe. Have fun

that was a 3 foot snowstorm. No extenuating circumstances it was a snowstorm. Ive been in storms where you cant differentiate where the road is and where it is not. some times the storms get to far ahead of ya and when they do you can lose the road and get stuck very easily, its normally the first truck that gets stuck, once the plow has more on it than the truck can push ya start runnin into problems.
True enough. Was a long while back, in the same Suburban, and I was driving through upstate New York when a snow squall hit. The highway was completely covered in a matter of minutes and it was utterly impossible to know where the road edges were because the snow was coming down so fast and visibility was down to nothing. Snow got a few inches deep or so in no time and cars were just stopping in the middle of the highway. I kept going, slowly, but steadily 'cause stopping completely on the highway at night is just asking for trouble.

Worst part, Tractor-trailers were just whizzing past at normal speeds like they had magical visual powers or something. Was disconcerting, to say the least.

Same here. I'm glad all those who said it was being HYPED too much a few days ago.... are too embarrassed to keep posting. Haven't heard from several folks who were comically incorrect in a while.

Dave Curran on News 12 is being conservative.....8-12 for a lot of central jersey/Somerset..2/3s of Middlesex in 12-15 ...8-12 up to NYC and North Jersey...big amounts he says Monmouth and Ocean is where they are centering on

also seemed to mention an upper air disturbance in the Midwest he says that could push some of the heavier amounts away from inland sections, hopefully something like that comes to fruition, have to watch that

You are being sucked in by him. Remember a few years ago he said the storm was basically over and we ended up getting 6 more inches. But I like what he says.

FWIW saw the first flakes a bit before 7:00 pm at my house in (east) Vineland. Not a heavy snow yet but it is steady and sticking.
