OT: NJTransit nightmare from last night

by your logic, you should pay more for your local services because northern VA shouldn't have to pay for your ass...
ya know what i want... northern VA to become a part of fairyland and DC... leave the rest of the state to those of us who are fiscally responsible

The rest of VA would be broke.

I think it's tragically funny that you benefited from a state subsidized college education, which most taxpayers in NJ aren't using, and gladly exploited that, but rail against state spending. And can't see the benefit in a state subsidized infrastructure project that impacts more people daily than the state university system does.

you are sadly clueless. The Feds get a lot of tax money from NY and NJ, so the least they can do is their part to build infrastructure, which pays for itself. They contributed to secaucus junction. They contributed to light rail. They contributed to the 2nd Avenue subway as well as the 7 subway line extension.

They are going to contribute to the replacement of the portal bridge as well as the building of the tunnels, likely once Trump is out of office.

with you idiots it's always the same excuse... "but we pay so much in taxes and get nothing back! WAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!" now i know you are DelusionAl... let me ask you this Copernicus... who the fk will use that stupid tunnel except YOU and YOUR ILK.....your skull is so freaking thick with no grey matter underneath... talk to your freaking dumbocrats about lowering you taxes and services... down here? you take you OWN TRASH to the recycling/trash station... if you want pickup, there are services you can hire for that.. we have well water, not city and it's up to us to maintain our own wells and filters(if you need a filter, i do not).. and if you don't wanna pay an electric company, you get a generator and have gas for it(liquid regular or natural gas tank)... grow up and stop being brain dead for once... pick up a hammer and nails.. do shit for yourself

New York and New Jersey pay more taxes to the Federal government and get crap back. Our taxes are used to pay for s*it hole states infrastructure updates like the one you live in.

The argument that only New York and New Jersey should pay for it is stupid. Just like taxing only train commutes for it. Do I get a refund on all the road work projects since I don’t use the roads?

my state is a shithole? then how come the roads down here are like 1000x better and more maintained than the roads in jerky and dork????.. there are ZERO... take that in for a minute.. Z-E-R-O potholes

hey idiots... talk to your legislature about why taxes are so high... and if they say anything other than "We pocket the money".. they are LYING.... try making jerky a red state for 8 years... see what happens.. ask money launderer booker and pedo menedez... see what they say... if they have a (D) next to their name, you know they are LYING

Your roads are good because NoVa pays for it. Not you.

wrong... we have agriculture here and make TONS of fresh veggies and grass fed cows(hell every year my family and i always buy a whole cow butchered).. we have our own chickens that lay soooooooo many eggs it's insane... and with the cows obviously we have our own locally sourced milk... we get fresh fish outta the James and can take a trip to the Cheasapeke for salt water fish and BLUE CLAW CRAB

so yea... suck it... the counties around DC do NOT support the rest of the state

How do you define worth?

FMV. Let the market decide. Whatever the market would bare for that skillset w/o the burdens of all the union non-sense, out of touch pensions, medical, etc. And get rid of tenure and make it employment at will like the rest of the productive world. Let the best rise to the top and have the ability to pay them more. And pay the weakest the least. Like it should be.

I don't get why a few on here think that wanting a new tunnel makes one a liberal. I am as conservative as any on here. I have the best commute. Live a mile from the train staton, commute to Jersey City via the train and light rail. About an hour door to door. I used to work in Morristown. That commute was horrendous. An hour in bumper to bumper traffic to work leaving early, 1 hour 20 minutes min. to get home. Bumper to bumper traffic, stress, etc. Driving sucks. On the train I can sleep, read this board and relax.

That being said, the ARC Tunnel was disaster. I have said it many times on this board that we need the 7 train extended to Secaucus. Connecting the regional transit system is the only solution I want. That requires NY and NJ to work together. It's the lib a holes like Cuomo that do not want to play nice. Wanting alternatives to getting cars off the road is a good thing.

bullshit... i fit more in down here than i ever did at the jerky shore with azzholes like you... my neighbors know i have their back when they need help and they have mine.... you are just jealous that i live in a better area than you

once again you prove that you are a complete and total putz.... try living down here where i live... if anyone were to find out you're a dummycrap, you will be shunned from the area and word spreads fast where i live... you would probably be driven out within months ... down here we are all die hard trump voters... get used to your future loss

In the early 70's I moved to Bloomfield because I could commute to 5th and 50 th in around an hour door to door by bus and if it was nice I would walk from the Port Auth.
Can you still do this in the same time with the bus lane and improvements to the 495 lanes to the Linc ?

There is no question that a new method of bringing in traffic/commuters from New Jersey is necessary, Perhaps Howard was right and scheduling truck delivery and road repairs in Manhattan at night is the first method to attempt. Especially at the Holland, Lincoln and George Washington Bridge.

But who sets that rate and who decides on what’s a good or bad teacher?

Use the method used to give tenure to Baltimore teachers, where NONE of the 13 public high schools has ONE student proficient at their grade level in Math or English.

you used a lot of words to to say nothing. It’s a fact that NJ and NY send more taxes to the federal government than they receive, to help support backward red states. It is a fact that Trump raised our taxes by reducing the SALT deduction. He dare not raise taxes on red states because they don’t have money. Without blue states subsidizing them, red states would be third world.

Our roads are more heavily used, especially by trucks, buses, and vehicles, which is why they degrade faster.

Yes our taxes are higher, because they pay for services, the best schools, the best transportation network, and the best standard of living in America.
Furthermore, the volume, quality, and pay scale of jobs in this area are second to none.

Finally, it is flat out idiotic to brag that you pay for your own garbage collection, because you’re paying more to get less, because as an individual, you don’t get to leverage economies of scale. You pay more to pump your own gas, because gas taxes in red states are higher than in New Jersey.

Now we need some of that tax money back to pay for better infrastructure, which should be a high priority.

Feds recently ponied up for New Penn Station, which is coming along nicely. They need to do the same for the tunnels.

The federal government needs New Jerseyans to get to work efficiently because we pay a good portion of the freight.

The guy has a serious medical problem and is on Medicaid. He might become a Democrat if Trump kicks him off.

But who sets that rate and who decides on what’s a good or bad teacher?

Same way it works in Corporate America for at-will employment. There are general salary ranges for positions, based on levels. Those ranges are determined via benchmarking exercises based on what other comparable companies in that industry are paying for similar skillsets. More people available for fewer positions and the salary demands go up. And vice versa. If a company isn't willing to pay the going rate, they have a tough time attracting talent and have to adjust their salaries towards market rate. It is a pretty simple concept. What each individual is capable of earning though is largely dependent on performance. Those that perform better get bigger raises, sit higher in the salary range, and gain promotions. Those who don't or can't, don't see the same rewards as those who do or can. Most companies require an annual performance review process for their employees to gain consensus on how each person is performing, as well as to create a relative ranking of employees. And employers aren't obligated to keep poor performers due to artificial constraints such as unions and tenure. The only people who don't like getting rid of those constraints are the ones at the lower performers who benefit from them.

So who makes the decision?

Principal? Superintendant? Board of Ed?

Always happy to see more equal pay supporters.

Equal pay means there is no discrimination in pay based on age, gender sexual preference, etc. I agree fully with that. It does not, and should not, imply that a poor performer should earn the same as a high performer for the same work. That is insane and breaks down how efficient markets function

I mean NJ has some serious wealth...granted...but also some serious poverty and a transportation system that is falling apart...

Our public transportation may be falling apart but our system is still far better than most other major cities in the US.

For example, MTA, PATH and PATCO are 3 of 4 24/7 lines in the US (the other is the Chicago El).

Many cities have barely any public transportation at all. The traffic around LA or Houston makes ours look pleasant.

So who makes the decision?

Principal? Superintendant? Board of Ed?

Don't know. Depends on the specific entity to an extent and how its leadership team is structured. But i can tell you that is how just about every Fortune 500 company functions (i.e. merit based reward system and at-will employment). It is not that hard to implement.

Well when you do know, let us in on it too. LOL

And btw, I agree with you but as you can see it’s a tough answer.

So who makes the decision?

Principal? Superintendant? Board of Ed?
Principal is in charge of the school. He/she follows the rules set by the Super, which are approved by the board.

Once again, very simple.
